I have just watched this movie for the third time, with the DVD audio commentary. I am convinced of two things from the experience, one, that Jodorowsky is one of the most sincere, visionary filmic artists alive. And two, he means exactly what he says (unless he doesn't). The man starts out with commentary like "I wanted to make a fairy tale about THIS" and ends up by the end of the movie saying "I'm done with fairy tales, reality only. NOT A FAIRY TALE!".

And what adds to the hilarity is that he's constantly surprised that the Mexican government were upset that he was filming scenes where Mexican soldiers shoot tourists and blasphemous displays of Christs for Sale somehow offended the Catholic Church OH POOR JODOROWSKY HOW COULD THIS BE?

That said I adore this movie and will probably watch it multiple times to make sense of it, even when it doesn't make sense. Or means something completely different to what Jodorowsky meant it was earlier.

The film is incredibly beautiful. I love the ending.
