Yeah, I'm putting my weight behind the "Ignore the art, the artists deliberately chose familiar objects as their base to keep us engaged" crowd. There's no accurate visible scale to start with (Although it's not there in text either.)

Also, Zergling vs. Husk.

Zergling.

Wait, you don't mean the one from Mass Effect? I dunno then.

I still can't believe how they botched the Marine's weapons. The things are supposed to be 8mm magnetic rounds, but they have bullet casings and a barrel that looks like I could fit my fist through. The Starcraft writers have no idea what they're doing.

Honestly, I think most fantasy settings oculd take them by virtue of well... Magic. Not to mention enchanted weapons and such.

oh god, the zerg in a fantasy setting would be terrifying. You think they're bad now, wait until they start assimilating manticores, basilisks, and dragons, and such

Nooooot really, most of those creatures are already less worse than the really big one tongue(ultralisk?)

A zergling, not the Zerg.

[up][up][up][up][up]Husks are monsters that do not tire, do not feel pain, do not feel fear. They just keep coming. Just like the Zerg. tongue What's worse? They're made by evil clouds coating them in a sticky dust, which will further infect others. It doesn't even take wounds, just getting the dust on you, ergo, no matter who wins, the Zergling loses.

you said that most fantasy settings could handle the zerg because magic, and I supplied a counter argument.

-Reads first post-

-Plays some Fire Emblem-

Lynn can Flash Step and bisect a armored cavalry unit in a quarter second. I don't see a Zergling, or even mass of Zerglings, doing much against her.

Alright, things a Zergling could take down.

Zergling v.s. Creeper

Every time the Zergling hits the Creeper, it knocks the Creeper back and could prevent it from getting close enough to explode.

However, a creeper can kill a full HP person wearing diamond armor if the explosion is at point blank range.

Since Zerglings are melee units and may not know what that "sssssssss..." noise means but can attack the Creeper rapidly, it could go both ways.

Though the Zergling would probably keep chasing after the Creeper as it knocked it back, wouldn't it?

Now, a Baneling vs a Creeper would be hilarious.

Honestly, the contents of your average auto repair shop could seriously impair, disable or kill a zergling.

Arc welders and other cutting torches would probably generate sufficient heat to create a cutting point, plus a high-speed impact may not have been shown to KILL a zergling but even if the outer shell is effectively impenetrable, a strong enough impact force HAS been shown able to temporarily stun it.

The only problem there is that a zergling could escape an oncoming vehicle by burrowing and the zergling's regeneration factor will completely heal even the most severe wounds in a very short amount of time. Without a convenient volcano or steel mill nearby, the only reasonable course of action would be to blindside the zergling with a fast enough or heavy enough vehicle and then spend the next five or ten minutes painstakingly vivisecting the zergling with a plasma torch or other super-hot cutting tool before running it over again as necessary to keep it stunned long enough to kill.

I don't think zerglings fare well against high-power plasma cannons, and with the charge shot, even being underground won't save them.

Just a note, zerglings kill marines, 1on1, and scvs kill zerglings 1on1.

This has been your friendly Starcraft nerd.

Normally I'm all about using gameplay to help judge something's strengths and weaknesses but Star Craft is notorious for fucking with that.

Yeah, Star Craft crunch and fluff are hilariously at odds at times. I mean, it's nearly as bad as Pokemon in that regard.
