Tyrian looks weird there, and it's interesting that Raven is on it.
On the "Villains" tee. Subtle.
And they're keeping on the "doubtful Emerald, psycho Mercury" thing, huh?
Either they're playing head games with the fanbase (entirely possible) or they've just spoiled the outcome of Salems overtures towards the Branwen clan.
I dont think raven is a villian but clearly is antagonist.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Emerald's hair is longer.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Raven makes it into the "Villains" tee but Hazel and Watts don't? Or Adam? Or the Albains? Or any Grimm whatsoever? Hm...
Yeah, where are Larry and Marty?!

I'm going to assume it was just poor design choice until proven otherwise.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnExactly! They're essential to the franchise by this point! The story would be nowhere if it wasn't for them!
I'm going to hope you're right.

I can see Raven joining up with Salem for pragmatism's sake. She puts the sake her tribe above all else.
Speaking of which, when Yang does inevitably ask why Raven left to go back, what do you think she's going to say? Most of the tribe seems pretty young, which makes sense - roaming bandits probably don't have the best life expectancy, but I wonder if it's just composed of people they pick up who like the life style, or if anyone is actually born into it?
raven and Qrow seen born in it, raven follow while qrow deflected.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Gonna bugger off until Tuesday come tomorrow.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name. The whole point of the way that scene is carried out is to hide Ozpin's power and true abilities. The entire fight made it look like he was holding back massively, and we only see hints of what he's capable of. This is emphasised by Salem's reaction to Cinder's news — she clearly doesn't believe Cinder is capable of defeating Ozpin unless Ozpin is using death as a tactic (which by itself implies that Ozpin's done this before).
That effort to make the fight cool without revealing too much about Ozpin made it obvious that Ozpin wasn't leaving the show and that he was coming back. The typical storytelling tactic is to de-power the overpowered mentor figure so the focus has to be on the heroes developing and the villains plotting without the mentor figure walking all over the plot, and Oscar is this show's solution to the de-power plotline (a slightly more interesting one than the 'crippled' or 'really is dead' options that usually happen).
Oscar, at the moment, doesn't know what he's capable of and doesn't fully understand what he's inherited from Ozpin, so Ozpin is genuinely de-powered for now and there's a valid story reason for keeping Ozpin's abilities and power a mystery — the audience will now learn it as Oscar and the heroes learn it. So, the heroes cannot benefit from Ozpin's power and abilities right now, and Oscar's vulnerability is a genuine liability to the heroes for the short-term, but the gang can still benefit from Ozpin's knowledge — at least, as and when he chooses to drip-feed the information, of course, given that it's obvious he's hiding a lot.
I've been keeping an open mind given that we've got no indication either way. I do hope it's a deliberate decision to show institutionalised bias and that the kids are part of a new generation's way of doing things (especially since the song lyrics suggest that Ozpin's great weakness is that he's trapped in the past and keeps doing things a traditional way over and over without success — suggesting that Ruby's going to have to sweep away the past way of doing things and Take a Third Option).
However, I'm still expecting Vacuo's head to be a female dog faunus (the Dorothy figure with a Toto twist). I'm also expecting Glynda to be the default replacement head of Beacon (or whatever they're doing as a replacement for Beacon until they can recover the site).
I suspect the the fact so many males are in charge of the academy institutions is because of the Wizard of Oz theme to the leaders; that inevitably means more male characters in leadership positions; however, it also means that the females will be much freer agents, more plot significant, more powerful and with more mysterious origins and motives. That was, more or less, the way things worked in the Wizard of Oz novels, even for the females who did have fixed abodes like Glinda or (eventually) Princess Ozma.
I'm expecting Vacuo's head to be introduced to the story last out of the four Academies because Vacuo will turn out to be the most significant. Usually, the last one introduced is the most plot significant. If she is based on Dorothy, she should be the most significant Academy head.
The most interesting thing about the scene to me was the fact that Oscar was shouldering his backpack like he was going somewhere. Ruby wasn't really registering it, just telling him to come up for dinner. Either Oscar doesn't stay in the same house as them, so she was just assuming he was going home, or he's actually planning on leaving to do something and Ruby didn't register the significance of him packing up. Given the way he was talking about how terrified he was, it sounds like Ozpin needs him to do something that he can't talk about, hence the backpack. Perhaps he's going to meet Qrow? note Or perhaps do something else. It was weird.
The other main point to the scene was that it's setting both Ruby and Ozpin up for a massive fall. It's setting Ruby up for her future breakdown and it's setting Ozpin up to break because Ruby breaks.
As to the Faunus storyline, I liked the fact that the Albain brothers are revealed to not be loyal to Adam. They're just using him, implied to be the reason he could even gain the throne, and feel at ease with the idea of replacing him whenever they want. They're clearly loyal to something/someone else, the ancestor painting on their ancestor shrine is likely to be the big clue. We do know there's a third leader because Episode 16 of Volume 1 and I have been suspecting that he may be hidden in the shadows (which is why everyone viewed Sienna as the leader), and the way the brothers are behaving suggests that either they're working for this third, or that Corsac is the third (I'm more inclined to think he's working for the third than actually being the third).
I'm hoping that Blake's vow to save Ilia means that Ilia cannot be saved and that she is going to cross the point of no return. I think that'll be more interesting than Blake successfully saving her.
Eh. They've already told us what the plot reason for Ghira's death will be — it won't be about Blake, it'll be about martyring him to make Menagerie ready to fight the White Fang on the humans' side and to confirm to the Albain brothers that Adam must only be a temporary head of the White Fang if they're to realise their own plans.
Ruby is definitely not Dorothy. It was in volume 2 that the creators responded to the fan question about who was the Cowardly Lion and Dorothy and if they'd be in the show; the creators confirmed that the two characters had been discussed and had not been introduced yet.
That's not how it came across to me. It sounded like Raven and Qrow were picked up by the bandits and raised by them, making their actual origins a mystery.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. So I guess episode 6 is out.
Minor spoiler note
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Yep. It was alright, if a bit disappointing. Raven didn't really get around to explaining anything we didn't already know, beyond the Captain Obvious Reveal that she also has the power to turn into a bird. I remember Wyldchyld speculating she learned something from Salem that shook her faith in Ozpin, but that doesn't really seem to be the case; just a general disillusionment with Ozpin's cause. Though she was spot on about their bird power having been something they got from Ozpin. On the plus side Ruby, Yang, and Weiss are reunited at long last.

Did you catch the sign at that bar?
[DATA LOST]Ah. I see.
I honestly rolled my eyes at that.
[DATA LOST]I mean, people wanted more overt discrimination to be shown.
But yeah. So Raven has confirmed what was already quite obvious, that Salem commands the Grimm, but what we've seen so far of her suggests that level of control is at least somewhat limited. For one Cinder needed to execute a whole convoluted plan to get the Grimm to swarm Beacon rather than Salem being able to just siccing them on the Academy. We also have the previously docile Grimm in the training room in Salem's base gravitating towards Tyrian's despair once Salem leaves the room, which suggests to me that her control over the creatures of Grimm is limited to her immediate vicinity, perhaps with the Seers acting as proxies allowing her to extend that control to distant places.
Edit: In addition to this, I'm wondering if Salem gaining that power is what Ozpin failed to prevent her from doing in the distant past.

I am starting to wonder at this point if the season will only end with the assault on Raven's camp to get the Spring Maiden and the Haven attack will wait for next Volume?
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)I doubt it; they've tied 3 of the 4 plot threads back together, and we have yet to see how Raven will respond to Salem's agents putting her on notice; her deciding to finally pick a side would short circuit that particular plot thread, and her presence on the "villains" tee suggests she'd prefer to be on the winning side.

Yeah, Raven failed to do literally anything other than make herself look like a raging ungrateful bitch. I get hitting the Despair Event Horizon in falling into a disillusioned neutral party, but her entire speech was "we went to Haven to become the best murderers ever, Oz saw we were really good & told us about his secret war with literally Satan, I have personally verified that she is literally Satan, QROW IS A SHEEP DON'T LISTEN TO OZPIN'S LIES! Oh also he gave us the power to turn into birds and I actually have watched out for you once or twice, but I'm gonna reveal it really menacingly like he did it against our will but not actually claim that; fuck those guys and stay with me, right?
Qrow's sidequest was depressing, and the reunion was feelsy. Too bad the hug was spoiled to me by a friend literally seconds before I sat down to watch the episode. Can't wait for Yang & Weiss' reaction to Ozcar. Nice to actually see the discrimination with the "No Faunus sign" - remember it wasn't all that long ago the US was doing the same fucking thing. Its a start.

PSN ID: FateSeraph Congratulations! She/TheyI think people are just tired of all this discussion and want some fights. Yeah seeing Raven interact with Yang was nice, but there has been even less amounts of action in this season thus far.
