Island RP Signups/ Interest

As your family is torn away from you, your vision fades. You fall unconscious for an unknown amount of time. When you wake up, you're floating. As you scramble into the lifeboat, you see some survivors of the shipwreck, it's probably best to help them. Grateful to be alive, after quick introductions, you collect meager supplies from the driftwood scattered nearby. After what seems like an eternity on this god-forsaken liferaft, you wonder if you will ever get to that island off in the distance.

Hey! This is just an idea I've been kicking around for a while. So, our story is that you were on a cruise, when on the fifth day, the ship mysteriously sinks. Now, you and a few others are on a boat, drifting towards the eponymous Island. Your motivation is to survive while trying to figure out why the ship sank. As for other specifics, they will be made available by request.

• Name: Characters can be from anywhere.

• Age: Not too old, but not too young. Will accept up to 60 years old and as young as 12.

• Personality:

• Importance: Who were they on the boat? Crew, passenger, or other? Will accept only one person per type of crewmember. (Not two captains, eg.)

• Talents: Anything normal really. Firebuilding, medical aid, hunting, good swimmer, etc.

• Salvage: What did they get from the wreckage? What did they have on them during the crash?

• History: Keep it brief, 2-3 lines at most.

• Other Important Stuff:

Hmmm, this sounds like one of those challenges give to us at school. I do like to come up with solutions to problems.

Questions:

Where is the island located or what sea is it located in and do we have any clues as to its location.

How far off did the ship sink from land? How deep did the wreckage sink?

What is the climate of the island? What is in the lifeboat that we took?

Question 1) Mid-Pacific area, not too close to the equator. Like the state of Hawa'ii, it's warm and rainy. It's small and unpopulated. The cruise was going from New Zealand to Hawa'ii. (I'm making references to this state, but we ARE NOT in Hawa'ii.)

Question 2) Pretty damn far. You've been drifting for a while, and there's no going back.

Question 3) The lifeboat has basic rations (Bread and water), flare gun with 6 flares, 20 meters of line, and a life ring. Food is good for about 4 days at the start of the RP. The boat is rubber, so take that as you will.

Is any of this inspired by Lost? Is there an overarching plot? What kind of things are expected to happen on The Island?

Yes there is a plot. Damn, I just realized the similar premise to lost. Don't worry, I promise this will be easier to understand.

As long as this doesn't turn out like the Island by Richard Layman it seems like this will be an interesting game.

I have never heard of that book, so I did some research. As it turns out, that book is full of SQUIIIIICCKKK. So, to dissuade any preconceived notions about this, I have a few things to say. The RP is pseudo-freeform, allowing for a variety of outcomes to occur. (Naturally, I have prepared for some of these.) Now, that doesn't mean that this is avoided entirely, as some elements of the overarching plot are similar. The ship is larger, as it's not a yacht, but it still explodes. Another possible similarity is that a character (like Rupert from the book), could end up being a psycho-sex-maniac. But being just a GM and not having a direct influence on you guys, there isn't much I can do. I'll try to keep this from being Tacky Trash too similar.

What kind of ship was it and what kind of things did it have on it?

It was a pretty average cruise ship. Your character's salvage should ideally be rather eclectic, being that you gathered floating stuff from the wreck.

• Name: Patrick Sherril
• Age: 23
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: Pat stands about five feet and six inches, weighing in at 210 pounds. He has dark brown hair cropped close to his head, Chocolate Brown eyes and fair skin. As of the wreck, he is clad in a t-shirt with a domo-kun graphic that says 'Never say no to Domo', a pair of blue jeans, and his red/black Skele-toes.
• Personality: Pat is a geek first and foremost, more than willing to just throw out his favorite shows and books to anyone that will listen, though this is offset by an inability to talk to anyone otherwise without knowing them. This social awkwardness can be taken as 'being superior', though Pat is more than happy to talk to and listen to anyone if need be
• Importance: Passenger
• Talents: Fire Building and First Aid (having a firefighter and a nurse for parent's really helps). Due to his rather...active...love of reading, he has a cursory knowledge of a number of topics, but he is well aware that knowing and doing are two completely different monsters
• Salvage: 3 First Aid cases(the basic ones that dot most of...well...any place that will have people), 2 Bottles of Vodka, Several Books./ A Lighter, 2 packs of Cigarettes(of course in a water-proof baggy...it's a cruise...things can happen), his wallet
• History: Pat is a geek. Having grown up sheltered, he took to books to give him an idea of what it was like to be...amazing. He has decided that, now that he is on his own, he wants to get his wanderlust out of his system before he well and truly settles down
• Other Important Stuff: Pat wears glasses, and is just about blind without them.

Before I can accept, I need one thing: You didn't put in special skills, not that he needs them, but at least say "none" or something. When that's fixed, I'll accept. Love that dude btw.

Appearance: Sean is 5 ft tall and weighs 140 lbs. He has brown eyes, brown hair and white skin. He wears a Green shirt, Tan pants and an old pair of sneakers.

Personality: Quiet and Curious. Sean always tries to not steal anything important to someone. Sean never went to school. Everything he learned he learned on his own.

Importance: Stowaway

Talents: Sneaking, Stealing and Running. All the talents he needed to survive without money.

Salvage: A bundle of bananas. A cap that says "Old Navy" on it. A Swiss army knife. An umbrella. A

History: Having no parents and refusing to stay in an orphanage, Sean had to steal things to survive. Sean heard that there was a large amount of food on the cruise ship and managed to sneak on and eat food without being noticed. Before he could sneak off the ship left port.

• Name: Gilbert "Gil" Williams
• Gender: Male
• Age: 46
• Curly blond hair, slender build, once lean and wiry, now starting to go soft. If one looks closely you will see signs of surgical tightening around the eyes and cheeks. Sliver sequined jacket, sky blue pants, burgundy silk shirt with many ruffles.
• Personality: Gil's personality is layered. On top he's very flamboyant and "fruity" but underneath that is a cold and cynical survivor of the hard knocks school. Beneath that however is a tired middle-aged man resigned to being stuck forever on the C-List. If he's lucky.
• Importance: Staff: Subset: Entertainer
• Talents: Not much that's survival oriented. He's a good singer and piano player. a clever mimic and skilled at applying makeup. However he's also a surprisingly good street brawler and a decent pistol shot. He long ago decided that if he didn't want to get queer bashed he had better learn to give lumps as well as take them. Also he has occasionally had dealings with Mafia types when he was in lower depths of his career so is more street savvy than one would think too.
• Salvage: A fabric bag containing a makeup kitt, his cell phone, a pen and a couple of bars of chocolate. The makeup kit has a false bottom containing a .22 automatic pistol and a pair of brass knuckles that he smuggled aboard (See Talents)
• History: Back in the Nineties Gil was heralded as the Second Coming of Barry Manilow. Or was that Liberace? Maybe Elton John. Anyway, he had several hits off his first album but a combination of ego, drugs and alchohol made sure that his sophomore album crashed and burned and so did he. After a few years in the gutter he worked his way to being clean and (mostly) sober and managed to score a couple of minor Vegas gigs and most recently working the cruise line. He was in negotiations to appear on Dancing With The Stars. Well, so much for that.
