Not Thriving: Afraid Of Doctors get usage counts

Bumping this. Is there any sense in keeping this open?

I would say no.

However, I have one issue with this related to the page. When this trope — the new one Afraid of Doctors — was in YKTTW, I was against the launching because it seemed to me that it's part of Why Did It Have to Be Snakes? and that somebody just could add another folder to the page. The OP and sponsor of the trope was not happy, and suggested that the supertrope should go to TRS because the page is too big and the name is not clear enough.

Now, should we have a separate trope for every (prominent) phobia? I don't think so. I guess I'm a "lumper" in this respect.

I don't think we want a trope for every phobia out there.

Well, that's the thing, this trope isn't necessarily about being afraid of doctors, which is why I didn't like the name.

I do not see that part, Arha.

Anyhow, there is a merge proposal here -has anybody anything to add to it?

It was supposed to be expanded during the YKTTW phase. The details from that page were supposed to be moved to this one and the trope launched with a broader title. The trope was supposed to be people who avoid going to doctors. But then it was launched as this.

Well, in that case, I would merge this into Why Did It Have to Be Snakes? and re-YKTTW that one.

All the major phobias have their own page. The minor ones are on Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?. Afraid of Blood and Afraid of Needles are two of the major ones.

That's simply not true. Why Did It Have to Be Snakes? covers also major phobias and several of those are very prominent in fiction as well as in real life.

When I hear phobia in fiction, I think mostly about spiders, snakes, fire, flying, heights or small closed spaces.

Yeah, individual phobias aren't tropes. They're all the same trope. But we can still have different tropes about phobias. Why Did It Have to Be Snakes? is about someone sharing their one phobia and then it coming up later in the story - it's a subtrope of Chekhov's Gun. Ironic Fear is when the character's phobia relates directly to themselves in a contradictory way. I Know What You Fear is when one character can detect another character's phobia. Fear of snakes (or clowns, or spiders, or whatever) may be an example of any of these tropes depending how the storyline uses it.

Yes, but now we also have Spiders Are Scary, Fear of Thunder, and Claustrophobia. Hell, Girls Are Really Scared of Horror Movies and Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality are technically phobias.
