I've managed to beat Overlord 1's main story, but got stuck on Raising Hell (specifically the Elven Abyss. I can't figure out where to advance past the stage). As for Overlord II, I have played through quite a bit of it. I was at the part where you moved the Tower Heart around the Empire lands to summon catapults, but for some reason I just stopped playing it. I've also played Overlord Minions, and was at the final set of levels before I got bored for some reason. Can't play them right now, however, my 360 doesn't read disks any longer, and I can't afford to get a new one just yet.
Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.Steam tends to sell the games fairly cheap. Certainly cheaper than getting a new console.
Now that I have my Durium set and am busy upgrading it, I've taken a serious liking to telling Gnarl to stick it and going into the arena without backup. My fifty damage, tenty six fire damage Durium Mace takes down Puff Beetles in two strikes. I've been clearing out 25-beetle patches without dying, on my own, without taking a break between waves now. Woot! Working on upgrading the helmet now, so I can command 35 instead of 30 minions on the field.

Really liked playing the first one. The sequel had more than a few problems with it, but it was still pretty fun. Haven't played Raising Hell or Dark Legend, though I heard both are good.
"It's just like... a series of overlapping curses." - Flower Knight DakiniDark Legends is good so far. Haven't gotten very far into it yet.
In my replay of the first, I've beaten the Succubus Queen in Heaven's Peak and am inside the anteroom of the Citadel now. Had some chores to do so I saved and quit.
I'm really loving this Durium set of gear. One or Two-shotting zombies is a blast. I'm also thanking God I chose to bring along the blues. Little guys keep saving my arse. I was running around the trench in front of the Citadel, fighting zombies. I parked my minions in my usual two-guard position: Blues and Reds linked together in the "back" while the browns take up position in the front. The greens stayed home this time. While I was busy taking out a zombie horde in front of us, a small one snuck up behind and started destroying my blues/reds. I returned in time to kill that group, but they'd wrecked the back line. Cue my surviving blues reviving their brothers and then all the blues reviving the reds. No casualties. I'll never leave home without a pack of blues.

Wish I could've gotten my hands on any of the games. They sound very hilarious, in a Black Humor sense. BTW, a question for those who played Overlord II: Does the Netherworld Tower have physical access to the surface? If no, then how did the Minions get into the Netherworld and build said Tower?
... Also, we need more inverted Evil Towers Of Ominousness.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. There are implied to be physical entrances to the Netherworld, but they don't come up anywhere other than the beginning.
Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.OK... I take it that the Netherworld Tower has no surface features/extensions of any kind?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well, there are some shards of Netherworld rock that show up every now and again that you use to possess your Minions, but other than them and the Netherworld Gates that the Overlad uses to teleport around, no surface features are seen of the tower.
Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.Huh. Well, back to the drawing board. I was thinking of combining the Netherworld Tower's inverted state with a Barad-dur-like part on the surface for an Overlord-based fanfic of mine, if you're curious.
... Anyone interested in Overlord fanfics?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. There are not enough of them around. Hop to it.
Though I prefer mine with a hefty serving of Power Perversion Potential. Not enough NSFW fanart for that, either. I've only ever seen two pics and they're both by the same artist.
And don't worry about sticking to the story for your fanfic. You could easily create a cataclysm or ambitious Over Lord who wants to add to the tower and make it encompass surface and underworld.
They're both on Deviant Art but I don't remember the artist's name. If you have an account so you can see NSFW works, you can find them.
The first is a piece with the Overlord sitting in his throne with all five women from the series standing or sitting around him in various states of undress. The second involves the Overlord and his Mistresses from the first game.
And I don't see why you have to stick with Medieval Stasis, either. A modern-day Overlord with good publicity has so many more options for perversion than a feudal lord ever did.

The Mistress orgy in Overlord II. :P
I rememeber playing those games when I was in middle school and high school. I was getting away from playing Destroy All Humans, and Overlord was sort of a "Medieval DAH" for me. I didn't get very far; I was a little kid and the first castle you went into that had a zombie plague scared the crap out of me.
Well, I think I got a bit farther than that, though I can't remember how far. I think I got deep into the town... I killed the Succubus... it's all a fog after that. I watched some videos about the later parts of the game like the fight against the second-to-last hero.
I rented Overlord II for the summer, but by that point, I had the impression that the franchise was dying. I was really biased by user reviews, and I didn't beat it by the time I had to send it back. I got up to about the part where you're running around in the Elven ruins and you had to... no, I was a lot farther than that. I was retrieving the Tower Heart, man was I motivated to finish the sequel. I was after the Tower Heart and got into contact with Rose from the first game. I wanted to play the multiplayer and only got into one match.
Never got the chance to play Dark Legends. I read that the story was a prequel to the first two games, at least in spirit.
S'ashame. Raising Hell and Overlord II both left room for a sequel. I really wanted to see what would become of the ending in Raising Hell with the original Overlord trapped in the Abyss and Overlord II with with Gnarl hinting at a plot to overthrow the Overlad.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).And yes, I know, you're probably wondering why would Shinji and co. become evil. My current draft for how they became so is this: Due to a flaw in the "summoning" process, each of the characters is transported alone to different locations, where they end up in slavery one way or the other. Years of suffering horrible abuse, witnessing the extremely widespread corruption, bigotry and hypocrisy of the supposed followers of Good, the trauma of the few people they've known to treat them nicely either suffering horribly or dying in self-sacrifice in order to free them, only to get the mother of all Despair Event Horizons when they finally meet the aforementioned imprisoned deity and, in the course of learning his/her story, makes them lose faith in "being a good guy" (including Anti-Heroism) as a way of life altogether.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. So I'm in the middle of an Evil Overlord playthrough, and I have got to say . . . I am digging the upgraded tower decor. Black and gold everywhere, with hellhounds and skulls . . . Really sweet threads.
And of course I'm wielding the Sauron mace. Kills an average dwarf in one shot, and the Centurions in two. I just need to get the gold for the last tower upgrade and the Arcanium armor and helmet, and I am set!
Nice to see you back, Journeyman.
You know, I have been wondering whether I should get the PC version or the console version (specifically, PS3) of this game. Which one do you think is smoother in terms of controls and gameplay?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I'd go PC. I've played Overlord games on PC and Wii, and I prefer the PC games over the console ones.
And I think I'm going to pick up Raising Hell this winter.

Any particular reason for favoring PC? I have a somewhat bad history with using a keyboard-based control scheme for anything beyond "WASD for moving, spacebar for jumping, shift for crouching/running, mouse buttons for shooting/scope/interaction/some other stuff".
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Because I personally favor PC over consoles. I like the keyboard set-up better than a game controller. It feels more satisfying having all those buttons at my fingers.
This fanfic has done an interesting Adaptation Expansion on the Overlord setting in its second chapter. Too bad it's a Dead Fic, considering its not-shabby-at-all writing quality.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I've made it to the final fight in Over Lord. I'm sure this year I'll get Raising Hell from the Winter Steam Sale.
In the meantime, I have to figure out how to beat the returning lord who wants my throne. It's mine! He can't have it!
Ah. Well, I won't spoil things too much, but pay attention to the color of his shield. Additional tip, there's a safe spot up by the door where you won't get hit by the whirlwind.
It's not the whirlwind that gets to me. Also, this is my second time playing. You're not spoiling anything, just refreshing my memory.
I'm more irked about the enemies that Zerg Rush you with every cycle.
Say, the Overlord counts as a monarch, does he? By extension, that would make the realm that he rules (including the polities that he made his feudal vassals) a monarchy, right?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
I noticed we don't have one of these up yet, so I decided to start one since I've been binge playing this game lately.
Who else has played and beaten it? I've beaten 1 and 2, started on Dark Legend, and have yet to get Raising Hell. I've read fun things about RH, so it's on my to-get list.
For those who don't know, this is basically Medievil Fantasy Pikmin. Yes, I misspelled Medieval on purpose. If you don't even know Pikmin, it's basically a game where you delegate tasks for your followers to do, help them fight monsters with strategy, and get through the story to get better equipment/more followers. It's quite fun genre if you like managing others doing tasks.
Oh, FYI, this game is where I get my Avatar from.
