On TV Tropes, it's very common for editors to misuse appearance tropes, as well as tropes whose names make them sound like they could be appearance tropes.
Meaningful Appearance tropes are often misused in ways that overlook the "Meaningful" aspect, resulting in Zero Context Examples and misuse in the form of examples that have no meaning even if the tropes themselves are not People Sit on Chairs.
The Appearance Tropes Cleanup sandbox covers tropes with potential issues. Tropes that simply require cleanup will go through this thread, while tropes that require more significant action will have to go through the Trope Repair Shop.
April 2, 2023 update: This thread is no longer for making changes to tropes, and was brought back from the Projects Morgue solely for cleanup. Making changes to tropes is still a job for the Trope Repair Shop.

So, as far as High Class Finery and Opera Gloves go...do we need a crowned to decide what to do or should we just go ahead and make the former a Useful Notes/Analysis page?
Macron's notesI could see High Class Finery becoming an index. I believe the Opera Gloves thing is settled. There are over 200 wicks to purge, but it is otherwise settled.
High Class Finery cannot be an index because it should have a grand total of ZERO subtropes. All items of clothing that are split off wildly need to be merged into it properly. Trope the whole concept, not just some random corner of it that's so tiny you can't even see results concept anymore.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickGot it; not an index.
So is everyone ok with the language? Can it be moved into the main space as a trope?
The YKTTW for "Nice Blonde Bitchy Brunette" looks like a duplicate of the trope that we briefly tried to repurpose the now-defunct Blondes Are Evil and Blond Guys Are Evil into. I don't know how we missed it, but we do in fact have an existing trope for Hair-Contrast Duo.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Hair-Contrast Duo is an actual trope, has meaning, and is easy to put context to. It does not need arbitrary subtropes that are just as likely to have completely different hair colours.
That said, it's definition really needs to be widened into the trope it really is instead of trying to pin down one particular stereotype like it is now. Currently, despite the name, that trope is specifically about blond and brunette lesbian couples in Yuri manga, for no good reason.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dicki vote for expansion to cover all potential hair contrasts duos. that's how ive seen it used anyway around the site.
Seconded.
Also, I'm making one more call for any more changes to High Class Finery. Then I'm going to move it into the Main. Come to think of it, I'll need help with examples. Should I look through other clothing trope pages and consolidate from there?
I think it would be a good idea to salvage examples from other tropes to merge them in. If you're looking for tropes ...Classy Cravat might be worth a look.
Macron's notesDo we just put the wick checks here? Cause I got one for Cleopatra Nose. It's not doing to well.
You can show it. No reason you can't.
However, I think we should focus on High Class Finery before we look at anything else...just so we won't get side-tracked.
I'll go look for more tropes that could get folded into High Class Finery when I can
Macron's notesThe wick checks are just rubber stamps since the crowner is passed but post them here for posterity.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOk, well I don't think this will get too in the way of the current discussion.
So Cleopatra Nose is supposed to be about characters portrayed as attractive because or in spite of their large noses. Instead it's largely being used to point out any character, regardless of their attractiveness, with large noses.

Hmm, I think it should be cut. I don't think we can salvage it as an individual concept. It can easily be folded into a "character is considered attractive/beautiful by themselves or others despite or because of a physical deformity or abnormality." trope. I'm pretty sure we already have something like that though...

Macron's notesThe idea for an actual trope instead of one specific about noses are good. The closest I can think of is Freakiness Shame In any case, the nose trope can be cut. The purpose of this is to clear out the dead wood. If people want to sandbox things for better YKTTW later, that's on them. Go ahead and clear and cut citing this thread.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOr something more general like Iconic Facial Feature, its the one feature on their fact that stands out outside the norm. For Good and Bad.
Cleopatra has her nose, Jay Leno has his chin, Alfred Hitchcock has his silhouette.

Yes, you are free to YKTTW better tropes after we axe the rotten ones.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIs Cleopatra Nose on the cutlist already?
As for High Class Finery, so far I have Classy Cravat and High-Class Gloves. Any other ideas?
^ Presumably it would have to be dewicked before any cutlisting can be done.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Maybe run High Class Finery in the YKTTW to help generate examples?

Macron's notesThat makes sense. I'll get started on it.
By the way, should we do anything to the Cleopatra Nose main page? Some sign about its impending cutlisting and not to trope it anymore?
That is a good idea.

Maybe we can do that just so people would know what is happening to it.
Macron's notesCleopatra Nose was dewicked and has now been added to the cutlist.
Next up, I'd like to propose Red Headed Bully. A mere glance over the main article is already worrying in terms of ZCE-to-good-entry ratio.
Here are the results of a wick check:
30 out of 74 total wicks
Correct usage (3)
Misuse (1)
- Lilo & Stitch – Experiments (misused as Evil Redhead)
Zero context (17)
- Achristmas Story
- Ao Oni
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Doug
- Exalted Exalted
- Granado Espada
- Johnny Test
- Mini Monsters
- My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S3 E4 "One Bad Apple"
- Paranatural
- Pee-wee's Playhouse
- Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!
- The Fairly OddParents - Major
- The Simpsons: Tapped Out
- Transformers Prime Other
- Valetonia
- Wreck It Ralph
Insufficient context (only mentions bullying, or only mentions red hair) (9)
- Arthur
- Black Crayons
- Bully
- Everybody Hates Chris
- Going Clear
- Recess
- Sekirei
- Still Waters 3 The New Class
- The Iron King
Results: Out of 30 consulted wicks (of 74 total), there is 10% correct usage. Looks like a clear candidate for the chopping block.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Add in that I can think of bullies with all natural hair colours, I agree that it's a poor trope and a quick one for the chopping block.

Calling crowner in favour of axing any appearance trope that has over 50% misuse on a wick check.
