Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

Ok, Gangrel is a cut.

So on a different topic, would fighting Frankenstein count for Fight Dracula? As Frankenstein is an iconic and Public Domain monster?

Even Better Sequel is listed in the YMMV page for Awakening, yet I'm not sure it qualifies.

  • That trope has to have the previous game being largely well-regarded and popular and then the sequel to have improved even more, against people's expectations.
  • The entry doesn't say which game its a sequel too.
  • The last game, New Mystery of the Emblem, outsold Awakening in Japan.

I think it's because besides from Japan everywhere in USA had Fire Emblem about to be brought to death like F-Zero was. Awakening was popular and loved enough to restart the series again when it was about to die.

@Reyn Time 250:

1. The trope requires the previous game in the series to have been popular and well-received as well, to the point that it's amazing that the sequel managed to top it. See: Assassin's Creed 1 and Assassin's Creed 2.

2. That entry doesn't mention what game it's in response to; technically speaking, it's the sequel to New Mystery, and New Mystery was very well received in Japan, and outsold Awakening.

And as FE originated in Japan, I don't think you can make calls like that if the JPN fandom shows something different.

Does Gian count as a Barbaric Bully? He's definitely physically imposing compare to the rest of character at his age, not being very bright and he usually bullies Nobita, but Gian doesn't fit into the Obviously Evil part.

Does Dual Wielding automatically make a person ambidextrous?

Ambidexterity means that one is naturally equally skilled with both hands. They are neither left-handed nor right-handed; neither hand is dominant over the other.

I can think of at least two cases of Dual Wielding in fiction that specifically and canonically lack ambidexterity. In Stephen King's The Gunslinger, the main character dual-wields pistols but is canonically right-handed, and had to train hard to be able to use his left hand as well as his right for that purpose (and he is still right-handed at everything else). In classic Dungeons & Dragons, a character who dual-wields gets a -2 penalty to hit with their dominant hand and a -4 penalty with their off hand unless they put proficiency points into training to remove this penalty.

In Real Life, only about 1% of people are naturally ambidextrous, so we can safely assume that some if not most examples of Dual Wielding in Real Life are not done by naturally ambidextrous people.

Okay, I put this example on Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

  • Sequential Boss: You get quite a few of these kind of bosses in these games. They are:
    • The boss of IceCap Zone Act 2, Eggman/Eggrobo with a snow/ice blower and a platform below it. Eggrobo will raise and lower the platform, while Eggman/Robotnik will keep the platform down. After 6 hits, the platform breaks off and the ice reserve tank on Eggman's ship busts open.note  2 more hits and this boss is finished.
    • The boss of Launch Base Zone Act 2 is a 3-parter in Sonic 3 alone and a 2-parter on the locked-on game. For Sonic & Tails, you first have to deal with Eggman's roller-ball shooting machine on land, then after Sonic rides the spare Eggmobile to the Death Egg's platform, Eggman returns in a laser airship. In the locked-on game, destroying this airship ends the Act, but in Sonic 3 alone, you get that version's Final Boss of "Big Arms" after the airship is destroyed. Knuckles, when he reaches his Act 2 boss area, goes straight to the airship and then has to deal with "Big Arms" before an end-of-zone Egg Prison appears for him to bust open to end the stage.
    • The boss of Death Egg Zone Act 1 is a station core with an eye and rotating exploding balls. After delivering 6 hits, the central machine with the eye comes out of the core and produces two spinning platforms, and hitting it now causes it to fire a laser across the floor. 6 more hits are required to destroy it.
    • The last boss scenarios in Sonic & Knuckles are both sequential:
      • For Sonic & Tails, the player first has to deal with another robot controlled by Eggman that spits out rolling spikes. The intended solution for this fight is to use the gravity-changing chutes in this room to immobilize the rolling spike bots and then spin-dash them back into the boss, but another method is using timing with the pipes to get the spiky side to fly into the boss on the gravity switch. After destroying this thing, Sonic/Tails chase Eggman into his Death Egg Robot, and the first phase of this is a Background Boss where the player has to destroy the individual fingers (3 hits to each), then hit the nose of the robot to reveal the core and Master Emerald and hit that (it charges and fires while you're doing that), and then hit Eggman's escaping Eggmobile with the Emerald in tow while the walkway is crumbling behind you. If Sonic has all the Emeralds, he then goes on to the Zone that features the True Final Boss, which also has several phases. The first phase requires Sonic to lead Eggman's missiles back into his craft's face, and then he has to catch up with the craft and smack it.
      • For Knuckles, it's two phases of Mecha Sonic. The first phase is the same as the fight in Sky Sanctuary when playing as Sonic/Tails, but then Mecha Sonic starts charging himself up on the Master Emerald and goes Super. When he fires energy blasts, he comes down to recharge, and that's when the player can hit him. When Mecha Sonic is down to two hits, he limps in the air and fires a spread-shot of rings, and ducks down every one in a while. Hitting him here will finish him off.

Does it work?

Take a hard look at these...

Real Song Theme Tune

Theme Tune Cameo

  • A few Nickelodeon examples:
    • Drake & Josh: In the episode "First Crush", Drake Parker sings the show's theme song ("I Found a Way" by Simple Plan) until a snake appears on his shoulder and gets thrown into the audience.
    • Zoey 101: In "Back to PCA", "Follow Me" by JoJo, the show's theme, is heard during the final scene.

"Do It Yourself" Theme Tune

I believe these were added/edited by a user named 103pmaL.

Flame Mario: Gian is big, thus conspicuous among the smaller kids. He generally achieves his bullying through his imposing stature. So Gian is a Barbaric Bully, but that doesn't stop from also being a Bruiser with a Soft Center.

I Like Robots: Yeah, it doesn't like it fits.

Asking this question about the interpretation of Cell from Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

So, in DBZA Cell has always been presented as creepily playful, joking and bantering cheerfully with others, and more than willing to admit when someone else has done something cool. Particularly after becoming Perfect Cell he is shown happily engaging in pleasant conversation with others.

Of course, he's also still totally evil, wants to destroy the Earth, and is more than ready to flip his shit and kill everybody at the drop of a hat if they upset him. (For example, he spent an entire episode talking with a news reporter, telling jokes and explaining the plot up to that point, only to kill the reporter at the end for referring to him as "Perfect Cell" instead of "Mr. Perfect Cell.")

(And then there's the Cell Games shorts, wherein he's more than willing to play along with the people who challenge him, was willing to learn Duel Monsters so he could play with Yami Yugi, and the only person he actually threatened to kill was Kenshiro, and only because Kenshiro made him explode once. But I'm not sure if those videos are canon, so...)

So, my question is...

Do you think DBZA Cell counts as Affably Evil, Faux Affably Evil, or neither? Because I feel like he might count, but I'm not entirely sure.

Are these examples of Background Music Override legit? I think they're not and that they're serious misuse.

  • Ace Attorney:
    • Played for Laughs in the sequel, where Yumihiko Ichiyanagi's first argument is so overwrought and nonsensical that his extremely loopy theme music plays throughout it.
    • Ocassionally, a witness's theme will override the cross-examination theme as their testimony is given, but not during the cross-examination itself. This includes "Dahlia Hawthorne ~ Distant Traces of Beauty" in her first testimony in the final case of Trials and Tribulations, a hip-hop beat for Marlon Rimes after his transformation in Dual Destinies, and Pees'lubn Andistan'dhin's themes "Ethnic Music" and "Head Banging" for all of his testimonies in Spirit of Justice.
    • Happens with Athena's theme, Courtroom Revolutionnaire, in the final case of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies. It's very fittingly used in a Mood Matrix segment, as Athena is examining Bobby Fulbright with it to show that he expresses no emotions in his voice, exactly matching Dr. Metis Cykes' psychological profile on the Phantom.
    • For the final confrontation in Trials and Tribulations, that game's Pursuit theme, "Pursuit ~ Caught", is overridden by a remix of "Pursuit ~ Cornered", the Pursuit theme from the first game.
See, I've played these games and what these examples are saying is "Now, upon beginning a gameplay segment, instead of using the usual music, another song was used, and that's it". That's not what the trope is about, right? It's when a song plays in an appropriate segment, and then keeps playing for later segments that should play other songs or none at all. The third example might fit this if Athena's theme played before that Mood Matrix segment as well (I don't remember this part in the game so well).

Would Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry be the trope for the use of jewellery to set off a décolleté, and would it be sufficient Fanservice to make a tall girl into a Statuesque Stunner?

What is Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry, actually?

[up][up]In those scenes, is there any standard tune that always plays for certain situations that isn't played, because the example song is playing, or is it just a single background song that goes there?

[up] I don't quite understand your question. Cross-examinations have two standard songs in these games: a moderato version and an allegro version (basically the same song, but the latter has a little variation and a faster pace). In those examples, instead of using one of these themes, a completely different one is used, and that's it. I think they would count as examples if the replacement theme played outside those segments as well, thus overriding other themes.

Has the second entry on YMMV.The Hateful Eight underneath Overshadowed by Controversy really become that infamous? I came across it while trying to remove links to some Walt Disney Home Video subpages, but found this entry so confusing, I couldn't tell whether or not I should just delete the whole thing. I already cut out something about Disney breaching Robin Williams' contract for voicing Aladdin's Genie, since that sounded really irrelevant.

Could some take a look at these examples from Emerald City, I need to know if the first 2 are being used correctly, and if the last one has enough context:

  • Canine Companion: Toto, who in this universe is a K9 police dog who happened to be in the car when it was sucked into the tornado, follows Dorothy everywhere. Though he seems to prefer Sylvie.
  • Chekhov's Boomerang: Mombi's dagger, last seen in "Mistress-New-Mistress" later shows up in "They Came First" when West recognizes that the dagger previously belonged to King Pastoria.
  • Hollywood Darkness: The outdoor night-time scenes are shot day-for-night with a blue filter.
