PARTY PARTY PARTY I WANNA HAVE A PARTY
#1: Oct 26th 2012 at 12:19:46 AM

He was their savior. Their knight in shining armor. Their messiah, who rose from the filth of his father to cleanse all, and bring peace to his people with the ultimate sacrifice. The boy, no more than fifteen, who shed familial blood for the sake of his kingdom. He would save them all. Or so they thought. But they were wrong. Oh so wrong.

Their savior stank with the filth of his father, and his corruption continued. The bribery, the manipulation, the games. Yes, the games. The emperor's favorite past-time. Watching prisoners gouge out each other's eyes and be fed to lions. He loved it. And the people loved it. The people who could afford to see it anyway.

But eventually, more entertainment was needed. Lions and tigers and fire could only destroy a human body so many ways. So new ways were created. Using ancient magicks, prisoners now fought to the death in entirely new ways, ways that were so fun and creative that people couldn't get enough. Eventually, everyone demanded more, to the point where only superhumans were allowed in the ring. This is the story of the Dome's most brutal game, and the people who run it. The story of a mad king, and his quest for satisfaction. And the story of a few brave prisoners, who would change this country forever.

Hello, and welcome to this new superpower lottery RP! You are a prisoner in the Saksamian Kaiserreich, a brutal empire known for its long history of mad kings. What's your crime, you ask? Why are you imprisoned? Simple. You've stolen superpowers. Or in some cases, you were unlucky enough to be born with them or stumble across them without submitting yourself to the government. You see, here in the Saksamian Kaiserreich, possessing superpowers is considered illegal unless you either work for or are a direct acquaintance of the emperor himself. All others possessing superpowers are imprisoned and sent to the Dome. What is the Dome, you ask? Well, first off, it wasn't always called " the Dome", and second of all, it goes like this:

The Dome is a gladiatorial arena, a large enclosure capable of housing any event. How, you ask? Magic! It's magic, and leave it at that. Anyway, this is the place where you will fight, and likely die. There is no escape. Your only chance is to become well-liked enough that the keepers will become hesitant to kill you off. You got some impressive superpowers, right?

Oh right, you don't even know how these work, do you? Because you're stupid. Alright kid, listen up. I'm only going to explain this once. Since you must've been one of the basket cases who saw this seal and said "Looks like something I'm gonna steal!", I'll say it slowly. This is called a Mark. A Mark is a magical mark (duh) typically passed down through royal families, nobility, and guard houses. They each confer crazy-ass superpowers, some of which are better than others. Now that you've got your Mark, you better figure out how to use it, else you toast. They're not gonna go easy on ya.

In the Dome, we got three kinds of events. Hunts, survival challenges, and death matches, as well as their according sub-events. Hunts are what you'd expect. They put you in the cage with a dangerous animal, and you get hunted by it! Simple as that! Watch out though. They got some nasty stuff in there. Dragons and crap, plus some stuff they engineered themselves.

Survival challenges are a bit more complex. They can run the gamut from endurance games to scavenger hunts, and typically involve large, dense environments. Here, it's less the wildlife you have to worry about, and more about your fellow player.

Death matches, well, they're simple. You and another poor schmuck are put in a cage together, and only one comes out alive. Don't worry though. Those are rare. You only get those if you get on the keepers' bad side

Anyway, that's about all I can tell you. You gotta learn the rest for yourself. Ciao.

Rules and Regulations

Okay, going out of character, here's how this breaks down. Typical RP rules apply. No godmodding, no ghosting, no autohitting, and no being a dick. But that's not what I'm going to talk to you about. This is about the RP. It's only really fun if it's random. If I just let you pick superpowers, it wouldn't be any fun.

So here's what you need: a random number generator and some dice. That's it. Just use the values described on the list. Now I'm trusting you chucklenuts to tell me the truth here. Just remember. The more powerful you are, the more scrutiny you'll be under.

If you have rolled "Multiple", roll a second time from 1-6 to determine how many powers you are allowed to have. Then, reroll that many times. If you are rolling for a list, such as the elemental manipulation ability, perform a reroll using the numbrs provided.

Carry limit: Each power has what is known as a "carry limit", or how well the user can control it and what they are capable of doing with it. Each power on its own is practically unlimited in the scope and scale of its use, but are burdened with the experience of the user, or the toll placed on the body and mind by using it. These limit what a power-user can do. So even if you have a weak power, if you have a high carry limit, you can be potentially more powerful than someone with a strong power but a low carry limit.

To determine carry limit, roll a six-sided die six times, then average the results and round.

1 - Low: The person has little to no control over their powers

2 - Mid: The person can exert some control over their powers

3 - High: The person can adequately use their powers, typically represents a rise from " human" to "superbeing"

4 - Very High: The person can excellently control their powers, typically people of this rank are considered fairly to very powerful

5 - Extremely High: The person has almost complete control over their powers, and can use them to a degree where limitations become negligible

6 - Godlike: The person has complete control and unlimited use of their powers without restrictions. Typically referred to as "hax"

Alright, with all that out of the way, here's your character sheet!:

  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Power(s):

  • Bio:

As for world-building or additional powers, I'm all ears. As you can probably guess, the Saksamian Kaiserreich is based off of Germany, specifically Nazi Germany had they successfully utilized the occult powers they were trying to tinker with. So in general just expect architecture and technology from that era combined with heaping helpings of magitek.

PARTY PARTY PARTY I WANNA HAVE A PARTY

Victor is accepted! And ooooooh, Lycanthropy Class 3! Nice roll. Anyway, players are allowed a max of five characters (although I assume you will probably go with less)

And for those looking for some background information on the Emperor:

  • Name: The Emperor a.k.a Emperor Jupiturius Ceneus Caesar
  • Age: 28
  • Gender: Male
  • Prisoner Number: N/A
  • Crime Committed: N/A
  • Appearance: A tall, handsome, raven-haired man who dresses in all black clothes accentuated with black feathers and fur. Has a kind face, but is often seen grinning in a way befitting the greasiest of shysters.
  • Personality: No one who hasn't met the emperor face to face can say, except that he's cruel. Possibly worse than his father. He enjoys the suffering of others, and regularly indulges in all manner of royal pleasures and temptations.
  • Power(s): ?
  • Carry Limit: 5
  • Bio: The son of the previous emperor, who one day rose up to kill his father and take his place on the throne. The young Emperor, having always been a kind, charitable young man, was expected to become a savior, and lift the Kaiserreich out of despotism. But after his father's death, the Emperor's disposition changed, until it became clear nothing had changed. It wasn't salvation. Simply succession.

  • Name: June
  • Age: 27
  • Gender: Female
  • Prisoner Number: N/A
  • Crime Committed: N/A
  • Appearance: A striking young woman with long black hair done up in a ponytail. Typically dresses in a black military uniform complete with miniskirt. Wears a coat around the shoulders without putting her arms in the sleeves, and carries a katana at her hip.
  • Personality: June is completely devoted to the Emperor, and will do anything he says without question. Typically presents herself as a serious person, the only humor she ever displays being in the form of sharp, well-placed snark. Is unforgiving to those who would disobey the Emperor, and keeps the royal guard and the keepers running in strict, clockwork order. Hates all Mark-users except the Emperor.
  • Power(s): N/A
  • Carry Limit: 5
  • Bio: June is the sole survivor of a raid by Mark-users which decimated her entire village. She was about to be killed herself, but was rescued by a young Emperor Jupiturius. Ever since that day, she's vowed to serve him as his faithful companion and friend.

Please note these characters will not be participating in the games. I just thought that as the driving force behind the plot that they deserve an active role in it.

Content warning: I'm a rather stubborn nitpicker. Sorry about that.

Alright, some world-building questions before I join:

How is the law enforcement in the upper-class sections and the slums? Poor? Extremely strict? Are the law enforcement capable of handling power-wielders that resist arrest?

Are normal wrongdoers sent to the same prison as the gifted ones do? If they are, are they kept in separate areas?

Since you're 'basing off' Nazi Germany plus powers, are the racism against Jews present? Is the World War going at all? Or are we talking about some Alternate History?

Outside the superpower lottery, how common is magic in the society? You mentioned Magitek, but how elaborate/advanced it is?

I think that's what I can think from the top of my head. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this one.

PARTY PARTY PARTY I WANNA HAVE A PARTY
#6: Oct 26th 2012 at 9:34:53 AM

[up]

(1) Marks are not unusual in law enforcement, and most regular officers are well-versed in subduing/terminating individuals with Class 3 powers or below. The law enforcement works for the nobility, meaning that crime against the impoverished is common, and most of the police force's paycheck comes from the noble's wallets. However, crimes against one noble family by another noble family all receive regular levels of attention from the police. They just don't give a shit about poor people because poor people are easy to frame and can't pay bribes.

(2) Mark-users are sent to the same prison as normal prisoners before being permanently transferred to the holding facilities within the Dome. There, they are handled by the keepers, who are trained solely in capturing and containing Mark-users. As a side-note, if you're wondering why some of the more heavily powered people don't just escape, all prisoners are branded with an additional Mark, similar to the ones which grant them powers, but instead, this one functions as a remote bomb. These can be detonated at any time, and are almost impossible to remove, as they're placed on the neck (probably the last place you'd want to scrape off most of your skin).

(3) Alternate history. Jews are not present. I probably should've been clearer that the Kaiserreich is a sort of Germanic style empire which takes its current design philosophy and technology from the era of Nazi Germany, not actually an AU or future version of Nazi Germany.

(4) Magitek is usually pretty common amongst the middle classes and upper classes (think cars and other public services, such as bakeries etc.) and is mostly used to make life easier, like providing an alternative source of power to electricity and replacing certain more complex machinery with simpler processes. Magitek is almost ubiquitous in these classes of society, but Mark-users reside almost solely in the upper-class or in the military. Magic in the slums is uncommon to the point of being almost nonexistent.

I guess if we're aiming for a 'break-out-of-prison' plot, we're going to need a Power Nullifier at the very least. >_>

Alright, finally put together a character.

  • Name: Arden 'Derp' Deprato
  • Age: 20
  • Gender: Male
  • Prisoner Number: AE-L11-5
  • Crime Committed:
    • Withheld information about the registration status of his powers when inquired. After rummaging through the database, it turned out that his power was unregistered, and he was using a fake name. Arrested after making an attempt to escape.
    • Had been imprisoned twice before due to vandalizing public buildings.
  • Appearance: "I just made the wall look better, got a problem with that, guard?"
  • Personality: Generally open to others and rather vocal about his opinions. Often takes first impressions close to heart. It's noticeably hard to approach him if the one doing the approaching already given him a bad impression. Despises conformity by force. Easily charmed by pretty girls. Rather vengeful. Loves eating fish.
  • Power(s): Healing - Multiple
  • Carry Limit: 4
  • Bio: Originally he was born into a noble family, but was exiled by the age of sixteen in favor of another child that the family deemed 'more compliant'. He took revenge upon them by snatching a mark before his exodus (and got away with it). Since then he lived in the slums under another name of his own choice (Derp). He witnessed the tragic condition of the slums and the rampant injustice that took place, and retaliated by vandalizing the buildings at the noble's district. One day, he spotted a heavily injured woman, a victim of the city guards' violent attitude upon the impoverished. Using his powers, he saved the woman, but drew the eyes of nearby guards. Long story short, he was arrested.

[up][up]Vector Manipulation! Ooh, that's a fun one. You ever watched To Aru Majutsu No Index? Guess not... Anyway, vector manipulation is like telekinesis on crack. The only difference is it requires touch. Basically, you can manipulate the vectors of anything you touch. Touch a rock? Manipulate the vectors to send it speeding away as a projectile. Need a shield? Manipulate the vectors of incoming projectiles and send them right back. Need a strength boost? Manipulate the vectors of the object you're striking and send it flying! That kind of thing.

[up] So we have our White Mage? Nice! You are officially valuable! Anyway, he's accepted (although I question why you chose his nickname to be "Derp"). One note about Healing vs. Regeneration. Regeneration is automatic, but if you wish to heal yourself, it needs to be activated manually.

Also, if I didn't make this clear (I think I did, but...) you only roll one die six times to decide carry limit.

I can't believe I just got ninja'd so miraculously. Jawa's wipe-edit didn't help at all.

By the way, his nickname resulted from him misspelling his surname when introducing himself to the one that took care of him in the slums. Needless to say, it sticks.

  • Name: Perry Kuhns
  • Age: 29
  • Gender: Male
  • Prison Number: 02-141-994J
  • Crime Committed: Obstruction of Justice
  • Appearance: Lean and gaunt like a corpse, but of a warm, tan-white complexion. Dark brown hair and a long, unkempt beard that hangs down to his sternum. Bushy eyebrows. Wears standard prison outfit.
  • Personality: A moralist and idealist at heart, there are few decisions or criticisms that he'll make without thinking of the consequences first. In his case, the moral standards of his actions tend to override the purely practical value. He'll trust you and your motivations up until you give him a reason not to, and not a moment before. Even then, he can forgive all to easily.
  • Powers: Force Field Generation (21)
  • Carry Limit: 5 (6, 5, 3, 6, 4, 4)
  • Bio: Perry, having been born the bastard child of a Mark-using Kaiser official, had been raised by his mother in a small town out-skirting the Kaiser capital city. When his special ability to produce force fields out of thin air manifested at the age of four, it also brought out a natural urge to protect others. The mark itself was a form of parting gift from his 'esteemed' father, applied at birth and shortly before he left. He became a paragon in his home community, protecting the citizens time and time again, both from violence within, and government harassment. He'd remained relatively undiscovered due to his immense skill with the power, up until cumulative oddities of his presence warranted a full military investigation into the matter. For the good of his town, he quickly gave himself up.

...

Oh sure, I'll go for it.

  • Name: Alice Van Pelt
  • Age: 20
  • Gender: Female
  • Prisoner Number: AP-F15-32
  • Crime Committed: Having the misfortune of finding a mark, not knowing what it was, and forgetting to tell the proper authorities about it as a result. And then annoying them to no end after she'd been arrested (she didn't try to annoy them, they just found her personality to be irritating).
  • Appearance: A shorter young woman with darker skin. More on the 'cute' side of things, though with noticeable curves. Dresses conservatively, with longer hair.
  • Personality: While her "Vector Manipulation" is generally more useful in a fight, her true power is arguably her ability to be friends with nearly anyone and her eternally optimistic, always upbeat, never-say-die, the glass is forever half full outlook on life. Thrown in prison? Free Food and Shelter! Being forced into a death match? Great source of exercise! Fed to the lions? She's certain she'd make a great meal and keep them full for a while, so at least someone would be happy.
  • Power(s): Vector Manipulation
  • Carry Limit: 2.3 (6+1+2+2+2+1)
  • Bio: Spent most of her life as part of a working family. While she's capable of becoming friends with just about anyone, her neighbors weren't as keen on returning the feeling since they were put off by her optimism in light of the general conditions around them. Got her powers after finding a mark in the street and thinking it looked nifty without knowing what it really was, the powers that came with it were just a bonus. Found herself in trouble with the law when city soldiers discovered her powers and that she wasn't supposed to have them. Then things got worse when the people that arrested her were put off by her personality as well (Realistically, her eternal optimism is as much as curse as a blessing).

•Name: Milly Ekvald

•Age: 22

•Gender: Female

•Prisoner Number: EM-429-3

•Crime Committed: Breaking and entering into a noble family's home, where she impersonated a servant. She then stole the Mark belonging to that family and was a fugitive for two months before her capture and arrest.

•Appearance: In her disguise as a noble family's maidservant.

•Personality: Milly is overly cautious about whom she trusts after having been burned once too often prior to imprisonment. Words are pretty but actions speak louder still. Even then she tends to approach things analytically and try to read in to what others might actually mean. She can be obnoxiously blunt about her thoughts, and has a clear problem with authority. Comes off as self-interested most of the time; she has been known to aggressively stand up for fellow prisoners - nearly always female inmates - every now and again, however. Her reasons for doing so are, in the end, her own to know.

•Power(s): Magnetism

•Carry Limit: 4 (4,6,5,3,3,4)

•Bio: Once just a traveling performer below the notice of most, Milly ran a bit of business on the side as a thief. She was trained by the troupe's handyman, a former criminal who'd taken her in as an adoptive daughter. Once the troupe broke up she went her separate way and was contracted by a shadowy type to steal something valuable from a noble family in the capital. Milly managed to sneak in disguised as a maid and even got to the item before she realized it was a Mark.

Stories have it that she barely escaped from the manor that night, and her employer wasn't at the meeting place. After hiding out in a border town for a couple months, teaching herself behind closed doors to use the power the Mark gave her, her one trusted friend in town paid a visit. With armed town guards. Sure enough her lost employer was there too, heading up the guard contingent. Turns out he'd used her as a distraction for a separate theft from the same family that night (not that the guards knew). Before she could resist arrest she was subdued and sent to prison.

  • Name: Leonidas "Leo" Lemon

  • Crime Committed: Stealing a Mark.
  • Appearance: Because why not? His mark is this, located on his left shoulder.
  • Personality: He thinks he's incredibly clever, dislikes people who are wasteful or wealthy, and will normally try to punch people who piss him off. After all these years of thieving, he's learned to always glace around, looking for ways to run away and escape in case he pisses someone off.
  • Power: Rubberization #36
  • Carry Limit: 4
  • Bio: A street orphan who Had to Be Sharp and became a thief to survive, he just happened to steal the wrong thing and get thrown into the slammer.

Here! If you do accept me, I'm not really going to be able to actively post till November 18th, especially on the week leading to it.

Is it okay if I have a whip at world-building and say that postmen carry multiple-teleportation marks? cool

Let's see here...

  • Name: Saskia "Sir" Schulz
  • Age: 21
  • Gender: Female
  • Prisoner Number: SI-R37-79
  • Crime Committed: Several, including:
    • Theft of mark from a postal serviceman.
    • Subsequent multiple thefts of money and other goods, getting more and more valuable as time passed on.
    • Continual screwing around with law enforcement.
  • Appearance: Looking oddly serious and clean. Has a Mark* circling around her neck like a choker.
  • Personality: Affable, confident and charmingly disdainful- she has an ego but it isn't too easily bruised...or so she'd like people to think. Has a slight inferiority complex and an innate need to be free, as she has gotten used to due to her powers. A self-professed glutton of nicotine and candy*, and can quite possibly turn into a quivering wreck once she enters withdrawal, and probably the only thing that can cause her to do so. She is in general rather pleasant to be around if you've earned her respect; and this excludes anyone associated with nobility and law enforcement by default- when it comes to them, she gets a bit mental. Being used to slums and prisons, as well as being with her fellow Marks, she, fitting in more in this world than the world above more than she'd like to admit, quickly calls it home.
  • Power(s): Teleportation- Multiple (24-4)
  • Carry Limit: 4 (6, 5, 1, 3, 6, 1)
  • Bio: Saskia grew up close to a thief's den, having a surprisingly average childhood with several other fellow orphans in a scattering of slums around the city. She managed to prove herself a thief at the age of fourteen by stealing a Mark, and they integrated her into their group, where she started to vent her frustration at the government and nobility by borrowing things from them, as well as teasing the various city guard on duty with fairly vicious pranks (from covering their towels in cornflour to fusing someone's hair to the wall). Eventually, however, she made a few mistakes and was (joyfully) taken into custody.

I actually started out with (40), but then I got another (40) and decided to refresh the page and try again.

By the way, when you say teleportation, do you mean like Jumper, with shock waves and so on? Or more generic, like Nightwalker?

Please let me know if there are any problems with my profile. Thank you!

I'm a bit interested, but I had a question. Whats the expected rate of PC death in this? The story seemed like it wouldn't be friendly to P Cs.

  • Name: Elena Monfrank
  • Age: 27
  • Gender: Female
  • Prisoner Number: 015-AD-105
  • Crime Committed: Murder of a Superior Officer.
  • Appearance: Older Version of this taking hints from this.
    • Marks:
      • Weapon Generation: In silver the outline of a mountain, inside of it the outline of an anvil and inside of that one a forging hammer. On her upper right forearm.
      • Control: The same mark that all prisoners have on the back of their neck.
  • Personality: An impassive, aloof and almost completely lawful woman. While she feels emotions just like everyone else, her face rarely makes a show of them and her judgment is almost mechanical in pursuing the rule of law. Her promises and oaths bind her tight to the point where she will go to incredible lengths and pain just to not break her own word. While she has a deep sense of morality, she has no reservations or hesitations in battle or killing. Aside from this, however, she can be a rather peaceful and pleasant person when not put on the battlefield.
  • Power(s): Weapon Generation (23)
  • Carry Limit: 5 (6,6,6,5,4,2)
  • Bio:
    • A completely normal woman, with a strong sense of duty and responsibility, who was impressed by the rise of the savior, the new Emperor in his rise. She served as a soldier in his rebellion and later on became a guard and soldier on the capital city. She was a paragon of order and law, incorruptible, never once bribed and unshakable. While under orders she did some nasty things, she always behaved with the good of his fellow men in mind.
    • Until a day dawned when his superior officer appeared dead of a single sword thrust and she surrendered herself to the law she served without a struggle. Indeed, as the sun rose from the horizon she walked herself to the authorities, confessed her crime and handed herself over to the king's justice... and the Dome. Since then she has been fighting for her new purpose. Entertainment. Of the masses. Of the King.

Might have a few questions about how far I can take this power >.>

@Oni-Lord: PC death comes whenever someone wants to kill off a character.

@daltar: Think Jack Rakan's pactio mixed with UBW and you get the idea.

Speaking of, if anyone else has questions about their powers, voice them now.

[up]Well, is "rubberization" somewhat literal, like One Piece, or figurative, like Mr. Fantastic's powers, or something else entirely?

More like Mr. Fantastic with a bit of Luffy for good measure.
