For my second book and onward, I'm afraid I ran into this while working on Ruby's back-story. As the story goes, her mother was tragically killed by an incubus, which Ruby then slew in retaliation. After a while, though (and after I published it, too ^_^;;), I realized that my readers are going to wonder where Ruby's father was in all of that. So, how can I fix this? Thanks for the tips. :)

Pinkie Pie and flugelhorns are a bad combination.

Her father was the incubus. Two birds, one stone, more drama.

Other solution: the father was killed too.

Or... you know... maybe they were simply divorced.

This isn't much of a plot hole either way.

One of my friends on World Of Warcraft said the same thing once. :)

Well, no mention of Luke's father was ever made during the original Star Wars trilogy, and for 25 years I don't think anyone cared, so it's really not that big of a deal. And if you think of something good to do with a father figure later on in your own story, that works too.

Germaholic's got a great point. If you leave it unmentioned you'll always have your options open later so if, years down the track, you suddenly come up with a brilliant idea about her father you won't have to Retcon anything.

[up][up][up]Was that a typo? Because I remember the identity of Luke's father playing a pretty large part in those films...

On topic, though, everyone in this thread makes good suggestions. I don't see a real plot hole here.

[up]I'm reasonably certain he meant Luke's mother. (Who technically is mentioned, but briefly and in a context so irrelevant to the story that it wound up retconned when the prequels came around).

Ruby is a Bastard maybe, or their father walked out whey they were younger?
