Err, wow. Seconded.
There's also the what might be a battery cell, wrapped in tinfoil and thereby short-circuited. It doesn't appear to be connected to anything, though, and I can't tell what this thing is supposed to do so for all I know it might be a container for volatile batteries.
If I may suggest a replacement... pretty much anything on There I Fixed It would probably work well.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableA picture of something literally held together with Paperclips and Gum would be good.
A lot of the stuff on this site would probably work.
Reaction Image RepositoryWell, that tinfoil-wrapped things looks like a fuse to me. Wrapping it in tinfoil would negate the safety it provides, and allow for a lot more power. It's also clearly a grounded device, as it has that green-yellow wire.
It's not bad enough to pull without replacement.

Always think outside the box. Because the box is full of scorpions.1 > 4 > current > 3 > 2
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. Not sure I like any of those better than the current.
Better.

Check out my fanfiction! This one might also work.
Edit: Or this one.

Always think outside the box. Because the box is full of scorpions.@Another Duck: As somebody who's not at all familiar with electric wiring, I would not have gotten any of that from the picture without it being explained.
Those are definitely great. The first one screams "the guy who put this together doesn't know what he's doing" and the second one is just a disaster waiting to happen.
Reaction Image Repository9(a) is the best one so far. I'm going to try to see if I can find any more.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable9.1 at wiki size:
That's fantastic.
No, it's broken.
Check out my fanfiction!I'm good with that provided my connection with the "car" never becomes closer than a single photo online.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Bump; a couple more votes for 12 and we can drive it 'til the wheel falls off and kills us.

Twelve is definitely good as far as I'm concerned.
Reaction Image RepositoryPick 12. And for the record, it's probably not going to kill us ... even in aircraft that doesn't do it always.
And ... image antiport is go.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI put the source in the tag. Locking up.
As someone who doesn't know anything beyond the bare basics of electrical engineering, I have no idea what this device is supposed to do, or what, if anything, is making it a pending disaster. There is the obvious risk of someone touching the exposed metal connectors while it's plugged in, but car batteries face the same problem and nobody ever complains about them, and for good reason; they're generally covered by (at minimum) a sheet of sturdy metal whenever in use. As far as I know this might not even be a finished repair job, in which case it would certainly be hazardous to use but also would not be an example of this trope.
So from my point of view, I'm being shown a partially-melted bit of plastic with wires and some tinfoil in it, and told that this device would explode if used.
The current image is this, for reference.◊
