For me, the only negative about the avatar switching is that it makes it difficult to tell who said what. I don't find it scary at all, and it's usually more amusing than annoying.

As far as the spread of Halloween, I think I saw somebody on this very site talking about how when they were a kid in Australia, Halloween wasn't a thing, but they wanted it to be, and now they're too old for it and all the kids are doing it. I also have a friend who's currently studying in Germany, and she's apparently seen some costumes and somebody left some candy on her bed for her.

Halloween the best holiday there is. I feel bad for the people who don't get to have it.

How did Halloween go for you guys and what in particular did you do? I went as the RED Scout from Team Fortress 2 this year and went to a Halloween party for a little bit. Had some good food and beverages then went trick or treating for 4 hours. Saw alot of nice decorations and had alot of fun, even saw a cat in a tree. (Poor thing. Luckily someone said they were getting a ladder to rescue it.) Surprisingly, at least 5 people knew what I was for Halloween. I even heard a guy with his kids see me and say "Hey look! It's a Team Fortress 2 Scout!". Since Scout has very short sleeves and and somewhat-short pants, I also got alot of people saying "You must be freezing!".

Not much personally. Read some halloween threads here and elsewhere and the Manly Guys cartoon this week, which nearly made me wet myself laughing.

I live in a building with a large elderly population, and there isn't a great deal of participation with the whole trick or treating thing.

Guys, why are we not sharing horror stories?

Because I am a big girls blouse when it comes to horror stuff. Stephen King's IT traumatized me.

Still hate, loathe, fear and detest clowns to this day.

That and most horror is based around death. We all know we are going to die. Why glorify that shit? Talk about it yep, fetishize it like say the "Saw" movies are supposed to? Hell motherfucking no.

I say supposed to because torture porn ain't my thing. I would say exactly why but I don't want to start arguments I can't win.

Not stupid movie shit, I mean actual horror! The kind of horror stories that shut down everything logical about our brains?

I used to hango out with a girl from Oaxaca that shared some local stories and beliefs about witches that made people's blood run cold.

Scary stories?

I worked until 8, came home, played that video for my parents while we had mulled wine and leftover Halloween candy, and then watched MST 3 K: The Corpse Vanishes.

Decided to stay home for the first and hopefully only time in my life, cause I didn't have a costume. Had a kid come to my door dressed as Steve? from Minecraft. Gave him three times as much candy as the others.

I went to a house party dressed as Nina from Black Swan. The costume was a massive success, but I did get way too drunk and do some very stupid things (including smoking for the first time). I'm going to another party on Saturday as Paddington Bear.

The only reason why Stephen King's IT traumatized me was because of that scene near the end. You know... that scene...

I don't care if I'm a day late; here's the world's shortest horror story for you:

The last person in the world sat in a room. There was a knock on the door. The end.

...SO, ABOUT DEM MUVEES.

Having watched Poltergeist, Insidious, and The Thing, I can formulate an opinion on each. Specifically, an opinion that none of you will care about but I'm going to post anyway. In order of viewing:

Poltergeist: Not too shabby, but I'm not sure if I would truly call it a "horror movie." Yeah, there are some genuinely scary parts, but it doesn't really quite seem horrific enough to be a horror movie. Perhaps we could just call it a "ghost movie?" Anyway, I thought it was decent. Would watch again.

Insidious: Wall of text ahead. And now we go downhill. Even though I didn't think Poltergeist was great, I vastly preferred it to Insidious. There are a few things I like (specifically the ghosts that I have dubbed "The Flash Game Family," because they move like still photographs; as in, one second they're frowing, and then suddenly they're smiling - like most horror Flash game ghosts), but also a lot of stuff I dislike. The composer clearly had no sense of subtlety, and I'm pretty sure he hated violins, seeing as the music sounded like he was murdering 108 of them. It was like the music was trying to tell you to be scared. The design of the demon was cliche. Ohoho, the demon has hooves for feet, red skin, and clawed hands, and he wants to possess a child, and he calls people names and says he's going to rip out your innards; aren't you clever and innovative? I actually don't think the spoiler tags are quite necessary, because really, the plot goes exactly how you expect it will. Not to mention I noticed at least one plot hole. Yeah, not a fan, but the music almost makes the entire thing So Bad, It's Good.

TL;DR (I don't blame you): Bleh. No. Next.

The Thing: Now this is what I'm talking about! I really liked this one. The thing's design was cool, the characters were smart (although I can't remember any times in Poltergeist or Insidious in which characters were particularly dumb), and the dialogue worked well. I'm usually the kind of guy who prefers CGI over physical effects (I'm weird like that), but I can't imagine this movie having a CGI monster. It just would not work. The physical effects work beautifully here...Well, not quite beautifully, per se, but you get my meaning.

TL;DR (again, definitely don't blame you): Poltergeist was nice, Insidious was bad, and The Thing was very good.

If you want a nice little horror story, you might want to look up Marble Hornets on You Tube.

I put up another 31 monsters on Halloween all at once, so I drew a total of 61 in four weeks. I did a new comic, and then I made a special announcement:

[1]

Because I don't enjoy any other holiday, yes, I'm starting up another month-long Halloween event in December.

I'm considering having a creepypasta-writing contest which I know some of you guys might like to enter.

I worked at a haunted house for my Halloween. Got paid in cash to either stand around looking really fucking creepy or running at people with a revved up chainsaw. The greatest joy is creating lasting horror, and sending people running and screaming from a haunted house, in tears.

Being dead exhausted today is well worth it, also the cash. The cash makes it all worth it too.

I once read about a pair of adults who trick-or-treated as people receiving trick-or-treaters. A house would get a knock or ring, and when they opened the door, they'd find another door in front of it, with a sign reading "please knock". When they knocked, the door would open and these two would act as if the person was a trick-or-treater, and give them candy.

I want to do something like that someday.

I also want to build a little device for when I can't give out candy at my home that would be a one-button vending machine. Kids would come up and press the button, and it would take their picture as it dispensed their candy. Hopefully it could even do face recognition to deny repeat visits, but the main point is to see all the costumes I missed. And maybe I could have it print their picture for them like a photo booth.

I'm sure the neighborhood would appreciate a mysterious impersonal device collecting photos of children :p

It's come to refer to any horror story written just for the internet, so technically I'm just sort of having a "creepy writing contest" in general. :)
