Since this series just started today, I decided to make a page for it.

It's got your classic(read: stereotypical) hero, female lead, and The Rival(who hasn't appeared yet, but conveniently drives a blue car to contrast the hero's red one.

I'm checking it out since I'm a sucker for giant transforming robots.

[up]

Well this one didn't have any cards in it(though I do know it's also a card game), but yeah, pretty much.

It's actually a step up from Motorcyles when you think about it. The next logical step.cool

[up] That's true.

I also think they're just riding the coattails of Transformers. I mean, why else would they have Transforming Mecha? And seeing as Transformers Prime was released in Japan just this year...

I'm beginning to wonder if this series only made as response.

Also, who wants to make the page on this Anime?

I don't think every car that turns into a robot is a take on Transformers. Look at Bryger.

[up] True, but you kinda forget that the Brave series and Transformers were by the same company (TakaraTomy). The ideas of the robots may be different, but other basic parts (Annoying kid sidekick, character designs, somewhat inconsistent animation) are still there.

I only brought it up due to the airing of the Japanese dub of TF: Prime.

And now, by the second episode, the cards have appeared.

Still it seems I'm the only one who cares. Guess because it's just Pokemon meets Transformers.

If I didn't love giant robots so much.

I do have to wonder how old these kids are? Aren't they too young to be driving?

[up] Backstory dictates that these are AI Cars (Akin to Ex Driver, but with Transforming Mecha) and the first episode shows that the children do have to take driving tests for these cars. And they're around the fifth to seventh grade. It's not really made clear, but they are preteens.

It makes about as much sense as I typed it.

Well, what can you do?

It's Japan.

[up] That is true. But I do expect at least some semblance of sense from Japan.

But I can see that it's fruitless...

Time to put on the MST3K Mantra hat.

[up] Gainax may not be the zaniest company in the country but when the sanity range is extreme enough to have wackier folk than they you can bet that more 'mainstream' studios in the local industry have a few more screws loose than their Western counterparts.

EDIT: Also the greater emphasis on following a successful formula rather than actually executing their product coherently.

Still the only one who cares it seems.

But it's giant robots, so I will continue to preach the good word.

Also, first two eps subbed a while back.

[up]I'm just holding off until there's enough material for a page (At least until episode 10 or 12).

BTW, does anyone know how long this series will be?

[up]No idea, but considering the cgi mechs and that this is essentially a promotional medium, I would say at least the usual year run.

By the way, hikary senji has a new translator that decided to pick up the fansubbing because sage was uninterested, even though sage apparently still hasn't dropped it.

So far, they released ep 3 and ep 4

First time someone else updated besides me.

I watched those eps, but didn't know if I should bother mentioning them or not, since this thread is so quiet.

Yeah, it's been pretty quiet here.

I guess no one's all that enthusiastic about a series focusing around transforming robots piloted by kids based on an arcade game by Square Enix.

All I know is that I'm waiting a while before I watch some more for the series' trope page.

If it's a giant robot anime, then I'm all for it! No matter how stereotyped it might be! I just hope it won't be a disappointment like Gundam AGE.

[up][up]I think most people lump it together with stuff like battle spirits, yu-gi-oh and beyblade zero g.

I think it is made with a lot of skill, in terms of focusing on what it wants to do, be a fun ride. That, and it's not cliche, it's more about using those old, common tropes as they are supposed to.

[up] I suppose you're right. But I still don't get why the fan-subbers are taking their sweet time.

They're three (soon to be four) episodes behind. I don't understand Japanese enough to get what the characters are saying. That's why I'm holding off on making the page (That and laziness).

Episode 5 has been subbed!

It's time for ninjas, wicked subarus, final fusion GAR, hot springs and evil Aquarion after an upgrade of awesomeness and looks.

Well, no one seems to want to comment on the previous episode. Too bad, we've moved on to the next, and it is the first major battle of the series.

I did like knowing what they were talking about. I should have said something before. It really helps to know what they were saying, though I was able to mostly guess. I'll watch the new one soon.

I guess I might as well mention that kakeru going berserk was a preview for the gyrozetter's final attack. The game already has them, and even if the anime does things differently, the gt-r's and the Prius alpha's are quite awesome.

See's the GT-R's attack

Okay, where did that cannon even come from?

At least Kakeru's attack didn't use anything he didn't already have.

As for Prius...considering this is a Shonnen anime, I'd be impressed if they let Rinne do something that cool.

Pretty nice attacks though. I keep forgetting this is a game as well.
