Seriously.

Moviebob actually made an interesting point on his blog that Seth is one of the few contemporary major celebrities who really gets the Golden Age aesthetic and tone of the Oscars given his frequent shout outs to classic musical numbers and older comedy bits. Hell he's one of the few who seems like he would genuinely enjoy being in the Bob Hope role of simultaneously celebrating and gently ribbing Hollywood.
Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...

...What.

Okay okay. Let's see what the show will be like before I pass judgement.

I like it. For all the kinda juvenile material Seth's produced, he actually seems like a pretty classy guy in interviews and stuff, and he definitely has that old-timey hollywood feel, like Gene Kelly or Frank Sinatra.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.
Excuse me while I go to Home Depot to buy a crow bar...

Seth seems like the type of character who should be hosting an event like this. He really nails that kind of 1950s aesthetic in everything he does and I think that suits these kind of things. None of this Ricky Gervais bollocks, thank you very much.
I couldn't possibly comment.

Just awesome like that
I just want Jim Carrey to host it someday.

JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!?!?
I like it and as everyone said before he seems to fit the bill and act classy.

That sketch with him and his dad is pretty funny.
Don't believe yourself, believe in me.

Believe in the JR who believes in you.
Boy this is like the time I was stuck in traffic behind Ray Charles.

[up]Ha ha, it's funny because Ray Charles and Seth MacFarlane didn't even live anywhere near each other before he died!

Yes Fouad that's the joke!

Not entirely a douche
I have to agree. Seth is a cast-off Rat Packer from the early sixties. Look at his head! He's even got the square-jawed blockhead that you see on actors from that period.

Even so, this reeks of desperation.

If I were on the Academy, I would cut my loses and just have Neil Patrick Harris host; sure, he may suck, but he's unfunny in the way your college roommate is. It's endearing.

He hosted the Tonys, and coasted through the whole two hours on sheer bravado — despite killing every joke. But the trick was that he just smirked at the end, like "yeah, my writers are hacks, but I'm NPH. Bow down mortals."

And now the decision is being protested by a parents' group.

I hope the Academy doesn't back down. Kids aren't gonna be interested in the Oscars, and if they do watch for McFarlane, then it's safe to assume that they watch his stuff already. Therefore, it is pointless.

Surely asking people to file a complaint seriously undermines the validity of the complaint?

"I'm offended because the man said I should be! How dare you offend him enough to tell me to be offended!"

Freaks.
I couldn't possibly comment.

[up][up]YES!

But really, have the Oscars really ever been child-oriented?

[up]Well, considering the first ones were more or less fancy dinner parties that probably had plenty of wine to go around, I'm guessing the only children who could've appreciated it were Italian.

Seth Mc Farlane was actually funny during the roast of whoever he hosted the roast for. I'm sure he can pull this off with class and style and class.

Hmm, neutral to this. Just get Robert Downey Junior.

Well he DID also just host the Emmy's. Good God, he may be more familiar with this than I thought.
