When have you invoked Fanon Discontinuity?

This thread is not to complain about endings you didn't like, just to recall instances of when you've invoked Fanon Discontinuity, for whatever reason.

Chronology-wise, I cut the Metal Gear series off at Sons of Liberty. Release-wise, I cut it off at Snake Eater.

Generally speaking, with film sequels I just stop with the first installment, such as Halloween and Escape From New York.

I cut the Tenchi Muyo OVAs off at the first two.

..I'm not sure I fully understand what your saying.

I consider the story overall to have been wrapped up in Sons of Liberty, whereas Snake Eater is the only game featuring Big Boss in my headcanon, with any sequels not being in the continuity. Just my personal take.

To me, All Star Batman And Robin never happened in the universe of The Dark Knight Returns. And Bruce Wayne spends the rest of his life training the Sons of Batman and making Gotham a good place to live. The Dark Knight Strikes Again doesn't happen.

The Pink Panther film series ends with Clouseau getting decorated by the president of France at the end of Revenge. Trail of the Pink Panther doesn't happen, nor do Curse or Son.

The Lupin III special Green vs Red isn't canon (as much as canon applies in this series). The Golden Legend of Babylon isn't canon either, just because of how stupid it is.

Comic book continuity in general makes my head hurt, but I never got this. All-Star Batman & Robin takes place in a very modern 2000-ish setting. In The Dark Knight Returns, the Cold War is still going on and the Soviet Union is still a thing! How does that work?

Just another reason I apply Fanon Discontinuity to it.

1. The 80's-90's Batman seriesBatman Returns never had a sequel,it almost had one starring Catwoman but that got put into Development Hell and instead Joel Schumacher directed a reboot.

2. The Simpsons The Simpsons ended with the MENSA episode,the Tokyo episode was aired in the wrong place. The Simpsons Part II aired the next season and it sucked,especially when Marge decided to become Ax-Crazy,though it did get better a decade later,it was a different show by then.

3. Yu Yu Hakusho Yu Yu Hakusho ended with Yusuke,Genkai,and them heading home from the Dark Tournament

4. Warrior Cats Warrior Cats ended with Graystripe returning and some Clan olympics,it should've ended with Hawkfrost's demise six moons before,but no way could the series end without Graystripe.Oh and there was this one non-canon book called Eclipse which really messed everything up,though it did introduce Sol

5. Digimon Adventure 02 Digimon Adventure 02 's final battle was actually too scary for TK to want to recall,so he Bowlderized the defeat of Malo Myotismon

I like to pretend that The Conqueror of Shamballa was actually written from Sho Aikawa's original three-hour script, and that the new characters actually got time for more than three minutes of development apiece, but that's really it. I tend to accept stories as they are, criticising and praising them accordingly.

Ultimate Spiderman cartoon was a myth. The Spectacular Spiderman season 3 is just in development hell.

Why would that happen?

I can't think of anything I've completely excised from my fanon, and I'm not sure if I have or not. I mostly do Revision retcons so that what we saw happened, but it wasn't what we thought.

However, the only example that comes to mind is the gymnastics I've gone through to try to get Enterprise to not be real history. I wanted it to be the history of the Mirror Universe (an extension of an idea by William Shatner or his co-writers, actuallyfull story

The final episode is framed as Riker mucking about on the Holodeck in a recreation of Enterprise events. It'd be simple enough to say that the adventures of Capt. Archer's crew were heavily embellished holonovels, but sometimes I feel that's too good for the show. If I want to go the distance, I consider the possibility that the Mirror Universe episode was pure fiction on the part of the holonovelist, who was a refugee from the Mirror Universe and otherwise writing a serial that was only a lightly embellished history of his home timeline, but sold as a historical fiction. The MU story was written about the Prime universe's stereotypes of the Empire in response to popular demand.

Never, because it's one of my most hated tropes.

I'm constantly confused as to whether or not I consider several entries of Mega Man X to be canon or not. I know that the main theory is that 1-5 are canon, but I also count Xtreme 2 in the canon as well, since it is a prequel to X4 and is Iris's first appearance in the timeline. If I were to count X6 and over as non-canon, that'd make Command Mission work perfectly, but make ZX Advent a confusing entry in the series, since Model A is clearly inspired by several of Axl's abilities.

Other than that, I generally accept more things as canon aside from Mike Dawson winning in ring toss.

Drawn to Life 2 never happened. Neither did Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier or Metal Slug 5.

What was wrong with Metal Slug 5? I mean, if anything, I'd discount 4 because of the lack of Tarma and Eri, as well as no Morden or Martians.

The Ultima series ended with Ultima VII, Fallout 3 never happened, and Final Fantasy was the final fantasy. Actually, I just threw that last one in as a joke.

What about Fallout:New Vegas?

It is satisfactory.

Dr Furball: There were none of Morden's troops and a weird mask-thing creating who you think is the big bad, who is then replaced by a goddamn demon who comes out of NOWHERE. At least the Big Bad of 4 was alluded to in 3, where some lawyer guy who looks just like him is seen talking to someone or something.

The Doctor is NOT half human. Although, that one's basically Canon Discontinuity by now.

The last ten minutes of Mass Effect 3 did not happen.

I'm surprised that nobody sneered at this trope yet and called everyone in here whiny or something.

And for that matter, Obito Uchiha did not become Tobi! Nope, that never happened.
