Double posting, but on an unrelated topic than the last post, so here goes:

THE GAME IS STARTING.

Some additional rules that I thought of: Please, please, please let me know if you are planning to drop out. I understand that life gets in the way of forum games sometimes, and that's not a problem — but let the other players and me know if you're going to do so. That way, we won't wait around for your character to respond to events. I'll be in this until the end — I hope you are too.

In fact, if you're going to be off-forum for a while, let me know. There's no expectation that you'll post every day, but if you're going to need to take a longer break than a few days, let me know. (And in a case where everyone is doing this — finals, holidays, or some such time — I might simply suspend the game for a week or so, with the intention that we return to it when things go back to normal.)

Finally, if something isn't working for you, let me know, either on the discussion board or over PM. My biggest concern is that everyone's having a good time, and I'm more than willing to mix things up if that isn't happening. Also, if you have a special plotting request, let me know this way as well, so that I can approve it and set things up for you.

That being said, have fun — and may you live in interesting times!

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

(Also, cute picture — is that from an anime/manga? If so, which one?)

I just found it on safebooru by doing a search on brown-haired girls. If she's from an anime, I have no idea what it is.tongue

Alas. I'd be interested in following that up!

Anyway, if anyone wants a last-minute submission, there's still some time before the plot gets going.

DIBS!

Lemme cook up a character real quick-like

Kayeka from Amsterdam (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)
#30: Sep 24th 2012 at 11:03:06 AM

  • Name: Mark van Dam
  • Appearence: this guy, except blond and not Japanese. Very much underweight and pale. Otherwise healthy.
  • Age: 25-ish.
  • Profession: Basement dweller/bum/hikikomori/whatever you want to call it
  • Personality: Very much an omega male, low self-esteem, bad in social situations. Can be surprisingly dependable when the situation calls for it. Hates himself.
  • Skills: All he knows are comic books, video games and television shows. He's is quite knowledgeable in that regard. Possesses a lot of raw intelligence, but had little exercise in actually using it.
  • Backstory: Cruised through high-school without having to actually do anything, but flunked out of college where that trick suddenly didn't work. His confidence got shattered along with his academical career, and now he hardly leaves his rented room and talks with his family as little as possible. Jumped at the chance to break out of his personal cage of self-loathing.

Am I still in time?

Yeah, I can't really think of a way to make him work. Giving up.

You're still going to actually try a new one, right? I mean, the whole thing got started with only 3 people in the waiting room.:P

Maybe someone a little more mundane?

The fact that I prefaced the first application with "terrible" probably gives you a clue about what would happen if I tried again.

Something a bit more suited to the setting?

It doesn't have to be especially good. We got a freaking flute player that works at deli. I got my character done in ten minutes.

I won't nag if you don't want to play any more, but I don't like it if you quit because of a snag in the creative process.

...A flute player that works at a deli isn't exactly an absurdity.

But no, I'm not trying again, as I don't see myself able to make an interesting and viable character.

[up]It's kind of the point he's not particularly absurd. All you need is some random dood that's tired of his life.

But, as I said, I won't nag. Sorry to see you go.

Hello!

  • Name: Zed Kenner
  • Appearance: A heavyset black male, of middling to tall height (around six feet). Very hairy for a man his age; in-between his bushy, unshaven beard, his mustache, and his thick eyebrows, he's often mistaken for a instructor of a class he's taking. Usually wears a non-desripts shirt under a variety of hoodies he's collected, jean shorts, and boots. The season doesn't matter. Overall, he's not a looker by anyones standards, but you wont find him strangling people during opera-time
  • Age: 23
  • Profession: student of religion, training to be a missionary.
  • Personality: He's a naturally aggressive person, but a combination of his religious and intellectual teachings drive him to be more empathetic. Whether he succeeds in not intimidating people that he truly wants to help, either emotionally or in more practical ways, can vary wildly. He's the type of analyze the moral and physics consequences of actions, overly so at times. This can lead him into indecision, and makes him afraid of leadership roles.
  • Skills: He's got minor experience in boxing, wrestling, and karate, though it was a long time ago for him. He remembers the fundamentals of the various arts, and he knows how to combine them with his....impressive....body weight. He can take a hit like the best of them, at the very least. Though he's perhaps overly quick to resort to the formentioned roughness, he'll initially seek a more passive approach to conflicts, appealing to the sensibilities of an enemy group. He has a natural affinity for discourse and debate, having studied religion, law, and politics extensively. His reading comprehension, loaning to his favored subjects, isn't too shabby. He's also an experienced, certified beekeeper.
  • Backstory: Raised in-between two households and two sets of parents that were on no friendly terms, Zed was paranormally experienced with the contempt that one person could have for another. He had plenty of first-hand experience with it himself; in-between his natural want to learn, his less than stellar good looks, and his subsequently stunted social skills, he was a both a target and and dispenser of dislike. One of the only refuges he'd gotten from that cycle came in his life as a church-goer, as it might be. He was a religious child to begin with, and the history and politics of the church was an ample target for his curiosity. The congregation was the most solid family he had. His path was clear. After graduating from college with a degree in religion/ministry, he's attending a local seminary. As to how he came across this strange little corporation, however, is a shorter story. He saw the advertisement, and as one of many attempts to gain a social life outside of his work, he couldn't resist.

[up] Provisionally accepted. I will still want a backstory, but everything else looks ok, so I don't anticipate any major problems with you coming up with a backstory that works.

Now, get ye hence to the RP, and SOON — we are very quickly getting to a point where I will be unable to accept any more sign-ups.

[up] That's fine, but take note that soon, in this case, means 'really really soon'. Within a day or so (real time) signups will be irreversably closed for plot-related reasons.

[up] Call it insurance for if people start dropping out of the RP. I was willing to bend sign-ups a bit at the beginning to make sure we still have enough people to post later on.

That being said, see next post.

As of Wednesday, 26th September 2012, 1:20:10 AM, signups for this game are CLOSED. No exceptions.

If I need to recruit new blood later on, I will put out another call — but this will have people enter into the game in a substantially different way. As for now, the backstory of the game means I am unfortunately unable to accept any more players.

(Sorry Fauxlosophe, I would have liked to have had you in, but I sadly can't work you in right now. If you follow the game, you'll see why shortly.)
