Observation 1:

There exist red and blue teams that hate each others' guts and wiling to fight like mad over pretty much nothing of consequence. (Though they are occasionally able to cooperate against greater threats...which usually ends up with one team getting all the glory anyway.)

Observation 2:

After reading the official comics it tells that the war between BLU and RED is about mostly worthless places, like gravel mines and the only one getting rich is Mann Co that sells the equipment and hats. This feels like a metaphor for how the war is futile and waged by greedy people that have no grip on the reality (Blutarch and Redmond) and the only people benefiting are ruthless CEO's (Saxton Hale)
