The current picture on the Badass Normal page does not show a Badass Normal. It shows Batman, decked out in Powered Armour and fuelled by Gotham's power grid, punching out Superman. That's not what the trope is about. I tried raising the issue on the discussion page, but no one got back to me. This picture needs to go.

None of those things contradict Badass Normal I don't think. He doesn't have magic superpowers.

Actually, I've no idea what is actually going on there.

A Powered Armour speaks against that it's his own badassery that allows him to do that, and it means he doesn't count as "normal". I can't see if it actually is one or not, though.

It is a powered armour. Worse yet, it's one that channels a full city's worth of power into every punch he delivers. There's dozens of pictures out there of Batman beating up Superman. Why'd we pick the one time where he isn't doing it under his own power?

It's also kinda Just A Face And A Caption. Yeah, Batman and Superman are iconic, but is Batman iconically Badass Normal? Outside the Internet?

"Badass", yes, even from my pre-Internet knowledge. "Normal"? Not before the Internet.

Well, while still not clearly showing the normal part, I think this one is better.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on in that image. The characters aren't particularly recognizable in this pose, so it's mostly just two people fighting; that's too close to a JAFAAC for me. Also, it's debatable whether this is an example. Certainly, judged by Superdickery dot com, there have been plenty of occasions where some character got weird powers for whatever reason and managed to punch Supes.

Motion to pull.

(edit) [up] Duck's image is better; at least it shows what's going on, and there doesn't appear to be power armor involved.

I changed my mind and support pulling the pic, especially since this page has medium-specific subpages.

Not one of the medium-specific subpages has an image. Whether it goes against the policy or not, my opinion is that it's okay to have it on the main page instead in that case. On the other hand, while I could care less, it's not a whole lot. Not too fond of the badass pages as a whole.

The existing picture at least makes it clear that Superman is being hurt by the punch, though. In the proposed image, he's just moving back slightly. (And unless I'm misremembering, he is in fact just rolling with the punch so Batman doesn't hurt himself.)

"...but is Batman iconically Badass Normal?"

Yes.

"Outside the Internet?"

TV Tropes does not appear outside the Internet. "Can use a computer and browse the Web" is an okay assumption to make of all readers.

The flaws described in the OP seem valid, but I don't think anything better has been suggested.

I don't think Supes actually being hurt is relevant to the trope. Being a badass is not about being strong, which is all that shows. It's about mentality. I think it's more showing if you punch someone even when you know you're likely to break your own hand, and you still won't get the effect you want.

"Can use a computer and browse the web" =/= "hep to all the web's memes", let alone "has the Internet as a source of Popcultural Osmosis".

The new suggested image is better. Even if it doesn't demonstrate the normal part of the trope, it at least isn't demonstrating a different trope, which is what the current picture is doing. As I think I mentioned before, we wouldn't use Iron Man as the page image. With that in mind, Batman+Powered Armour needs to go. I'd rather have the page be blank, than demonstrating the wrong thing.

"Batman does not have super powers" is not an Internet fad thingie. Pretty sure that is very widely known. Not sure what else he would be known for, if not that.

[up]We're not claiming it is. The picture however, is not showing him using his own badassery. It shows him wearing an Iron Man suit.
