No Pokémon? Considering it was the first portable JRPG to catch mainstream success, I am a little surprised to not see it on there.
Wait, why is this cutting off at '87?

Avvie-free for life!
I'm guessing the focus is on games that defined the cRPG 'over-genre' and most games past the 90s largely built on what came before?

The King of Dreamers
To clarify some things: Pokemon came out in 1998 (USA) so we'll be playing that when we get to that era. This is a list to play ALL important RP Gs, from the 80s till today, in order. The list stopped on 1987 because we'll be spending some time on these. If you want, we can put the complete list from the start. What you think?

You should probably put up the complete list, else people will fill the topic pestering you about all the big titles from the 90s (Chrono Trigger, Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment, FF III through IX...)
Hearthstone Recruit-A-Friend (Americas Server) (I get free stuff)

Sorry about that. In any case, would someone explain what a cRPG is? Computer Role Playing Game?

The King of Dreamers
Exactly
I'm making the list right now, it'll be done as soon as possible, maybe 2 hours. What you guys think? Anyone interested in playing through all rpg history?

I've been interested in playing those games for a while, but I have a heck of a backlog right now and will be busy for a few months with stuff, I'm still interested in getting around to this though.

The King of Dreamers
Updated the list till 2005. This is just a "beta" list, it could change.

I've only played ~5 of the games on that list. I've heard of maybe 20 of them.
Seriously, you actually have all of those game? And you've played them?
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."

Oh wow you've really extended that list.
It might be best to format them as a series of lists, splitting them up in terms of the decades they were in.
Cause right now that list is really hard to read.
Also, it might be good to add Dark Lands (1992) to that list which is notable for being absolutely huge in terms of a sandbox crpg and also really complex.

The King of Dreamers
Completely forgot about Dark Lands. I'll add that up later. Thanks!
The list really is kind hard to read right now. Sorry about that, I'm still organizing. Shadow Scythe, could you elaborate more please? I want this to be easy to get into
About having all the games, the answer is no. I have about 1/3 of them, especially the later titles. Some were released before i was even born, so it's kind hard to get nowadays. Especially old japan-only rpgs.

Nostalgia only goes so far. I could never stomach the classic JRPG format. But considering the replayability of some of those games, I wonder how long it'll take you.

The King of Dreamers
Some years, I guess. It's some kind of Super OCD thing. If I never played, say, Final Fantasy VII. I need to start from I and work my way up, even if they are not related at all. To see the evolution in graphics, music, storytelling, bestiary, battle system... Now imagine that up to eleven, extending to an entire GENRE. There you go, THE ULTIMATE RPG PROJECT is born.

CRPG addict
should help you from the crpg side of things.
Something Awful
has more elaborate descriptions of the more notable ones that most people talk about when they bring up crpgs.
Good luck trying to play every single game, I'll probably play scattered games from that list.

Do SRPGS like the Super Robot Wars Franchise count?
I don't fight for good, and I don't fight for evil, I JUST FIGHT!

The King of Dreamers
Yeah, I've read a lot of his blog. It's really interesting, I never got to play these games back in the day.
I'm organizing the list, it looks cleaner but makes the topic too big. oh well.

I hate to add even more to your workload but I'm pretty sure Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was prior to '05, coming before Crystal Chronicles. Not sure how big a deal it is but I only got into Fire Emblem from a friend who got me hooked on FFTA first.
I will definitely look into some of these and maybe even post some videos about my experiences, but will never manage all of these suckers. Arceusspeed, gentlemen (and ladies, if applicable).

The King of Dreamers
You are right, my bad. Must have skipped. Thanks!
When anyone find some mistake or some game not listed, please post on the thread. Your help is much appreciated.
EDIT: I'm linking every game to its respective page, if it exists.
Anyone knows how can I link the whole title?
I'm also having trouble with redirects. I want to when you click in Akalabeth, to redirect you to the Ultima series page. Any ideas?

SOPA? Lol wut? U Mad US?
You forgot the first two Dragon Quest Monsters games which came out before Caravan Heart. And Quest64. Being an RPG for the N64 should be notable enough for that one.
And since you mentioned Japan-only games with no English translation, I'm going to mention the Madou Monogatari series as well, even if the puzzle game that spun off from it ultimately became more notable than the main RPG series did.
EDIT:
Also, what about Roguelike games? I think only Akalabeth predates Rogue. Though I understand if they are too hard to consider for the project, with having to restart the game from the beginning if you die and all.

First, about Rogue and Roguelikes: Although they contributed to the genre, I personally think they are too hard. I, myself, categorize them as... roguelikes. I don't think I'll be putting them on the list.
Forgot the first two Dragon Quest Monsters also, thanks!
Quest 64 is one of the only 64 rpgs, but it's so bad, in my opinion, that I don't know. What you think?
Finally, I'll take a look at Madou Monogatari. The wikipedia entry is so small that I don't even know what it is about.

Very cute indeed
The later ones looks good, I'll read the article to get a general idea. btw, this site is awesome, their Ultima article is fantastic.
As for the project, is anyone interested in playing the majority of these games? We'll begin when we finished the list and have enough people.

I just have to wonder how long this would take.
I mean, even playing for like 18 hours a day which is unhealthy as fuck, it would take, what? Five years? I'm terrible at estimates.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."

The King of Dreamers
The project will accommodate people's time. It's not a race, so we should take our time. Something like 6 hours a day is good enough.
It'll take some years, I guess. however, It's not about the end, it's about the journey.
