Too much gay. Needs more les and het.

(I will also hold this imbalance against this franchise.)

But that picture seems to be about Reiner and Krista, so technically it's het...even if she thinks he's delusional.

Just a rec to help others who have trouble "letting go" of Shingeki.

Person Of Interest - if you haven't seen it yet, give it a try. I've been burning through shows, and it has really peaked my interest. I just love how "crime victim fodder" have not just been spared but also upgraded into sidekicks and actually taking on roles that greatly resemble hero-type or main character-type roles.

There are so many spinoffs, I'm almost starting to worry about the main series.

I wonder what this one will be about. It seems interesting (also, I really love that turtleneck).

I am happy to say that I am behind on all the spin-offs except for the Levi one.

I haven't even read the Levi spinoff. I have far too many other things to do aside from keeping up with the main series.

Some nice translated interviews with Isayama from Bessatsu magazine.

http://plain-dude.tumblr.com/post/89448667392/bessatsu-magazine-q-a-with-isayama

(There's four Trainee Corps, one for each direction. The Northern region is the most peaceful, but also brutally cold. There are no sports, but games like horse shoes are played. Mikasa is a good singer. He plans to eventually explain exactly how the Titans can always zero in on humans. Pixis is married and has children. People don't shower often, at least compared to the Japanese. Armin and Nifa were teased about looking alike. The Survey Corps are the lowest paid soldiers in the military. Erwin's childhood nickname was "Eyebrows".)

So, with the help of another troper, I managed to successfully complete my translation of "Guren no Yumiya"! I know we already have a translation on the quotes page but would you guys be interested in comparing and contrasting the two to decide which lines to use?

[up][up] I actually feel proud that I didn't immediately click on that link.

Some tidbits from the interview which made me react.

Q: What are some of the requests you made when Sn K was turned into a anime?
A: I have proposed they add in many minor details, like making Eren into a more useless person. And Director Araki had also given his own suggestions, like the scene in Ep2 where Eren got punched. It was not included in the script, but added during the storyboard. I liked that scene.

I will try to not point this out whenever I see people complain that the anime staff made Eren more useless, stupid, etc.

Q: Do the females in the Scouting Legion put on makeup?
A: No. They go bareface!

Score one for the people who complain about the anime staff making some girls wear make-up.

Q: What is the favorite food of Sasha and Levi?
A: Sasha likes meat in general. Levi likes to drink black tea.

Questioner must be a Sasha x Levi fan...

Q: Are there anyone else in the 104th, other than Christa, who is popular among the opposite sex?
A: Everyone have their own individuality that keep the opposite sex away from them, so…

This explains the shortage of het...

Q: Is it possible to go to the toilet while wearing the 3DMG?
A: Yes. It was designed to make it possible.

Illustrations onegai shimasu.

Q: Are the wages for Scouting Legion good?
A: The Scouting Legion has the lowest wages among the military.

My poor babies!

Q: In vol. 5, Mike met Eren for the first time, and sniffed him. What did he think and felt after sniffing him?

A: Mike felt that he’s more alpha than Eren.

Ahahahaha what

And hey, we actually got an answer to the Annie/Mikasa fight. A disappointing answer, but at least an answer.

Q: Titans are naked. Don’t they feel cold during winter?

A: They might just be pretending to be fine.

Q: Do titans cry when they have things in their eyes?

A: It differ according to size, but they do! It could be emotional, or it could be due to the things in their eyes.

I'm now picturing a group of Titans huddling together in the forest of giant trees during the winter and crying. (Aaaand pagetopper. Why am I not surprised?)

So it is Isayama's fault that I prefer manga Eren?

I don't think Isayama wants us to admire Eren, or find him likeable. I do recall reading that Isayama said he regrets making Eren come across as so heroic, but I've never seen the interview myself. And for me, a well-written character is not necessarily a character you're supposed to respect.

And you can see how the writing has changed - Manga Eren is only better than Anime Eren in parts the anime covered, and Eren has been much more pathetic over the last dozen or so chapters.

[up][awesome]

I think this series does a good job showing that unshakable optimism and awesome superpowers aren't always enough to save the day. And with Eren frequently out of the way, we get more pagetime to make the supporting characters well-rounded. Take chapter 59; Eren wasn't in it at all and the plot didn't advance much, but getting added development for Jean and Armin (not to mention the reintroduction of Marlo and Hitch) made it worthwhile, for me at least. That said, the whole kidnapping thing needs to stop for a bit.

I think we need to get around to the consequences of someone like Eren having a Titan form and the coordinate power, causing destruction in order to kill whoever he considers an "enemy of humanity."

[up][up][up] Yeah, there was an interview or Q & A which had the mangaka saying he regretted making Eren look heroic or something like that. Came out a long time ago.

I read it, but I don't remember where... maybe that Q & A in the English version of the manga. Volume 1 or one of the early volumes.
