I hear this a lot in regards to sports, board games and certain genre of video games but what does that mean?

Usually I hear "Don't hate the player, hate the game."

I'm assuming yours is a way of saying, "It's not the game's fault you lost."

To do something a certain way so as to "respect the game" is a matter of sportsmanship, I think. It's more like a kind of "respect the rules and nature of the game, because in that way the game is fair and fun for everyone involved"...or at least that's how I see it.

...what it means in respect to Video Games, I have no idea, though.

In respect to video games, I guess it means not enabling cheat codes once you're past a certain skill level, not using such things as that one server of TF2 that got shut down for being a hat-drop-pickup place and nothing else, and not stomping on the newbies for being n00bs.

It means you lost the game.
And on the 99th anniversary of the opening of the Peace Palace in The Hague. You know what that means!

Good luck finding all those pastries in time.

I didn't write any of that.

A related phrase may be "be a good sport."
