I haven't gotten into this series yet, but I don't know of any series I've wanted to get into more, at least since I got into Street Fighter.

I've always been a fan of city building games, trading games and tycoon games - Sim City, Ceasar III, Port Royale, Patrician, I love 'em all... and from what I know of Anno it's like a fusion of all of these.

I have a Mac, but I should be getting access to a PC desktop in due time, so I'm thinking of getting an Anno game soonish.

Which of the games would anyone here whose played the series suggest. I was going to get 2070, but I've heard amazing things about 1404. And the earlier ones.

Anything I should know ahead of time? Is it overly complex and specified in gameplay? - I had that problem playing Victoria, but from my research I wouldn't think Anno would have that problem. On the other hand, I don't want the interface or actions too easy - something along the lines of Patrician mixed with Caesar is what I've heard about it. That's what draws me to it.

I only really have experience with 2040 and even then, not much, but the complexity seems to be around the level of Caesar, plus the added underwater dimension which I thought was really cool.

^^ Yes. Yes I have. Now I'm looking for hands-on experience from fellow gamers, obviously.

I only played 1402. It starts off simply, but as you progress in wealth and prosperity and size, your citizens become more needy and demanding. It becomes quite the task of managing the logistics of ferrying goods from plantations to your major colonies and such.

The missus was better at that part than I was.

Another necro: Anno 1800 will be an Epic Games store and UPlay exclusive, but will be available to pre-purchase on Steam until the game's launch.
