Are there any local bands that you know (whether they're good, bad, or just plain average)? Any hometown heroes that could use a boost getting out of their hometown? Are you a hipster who only listens to bands that he/she knows in person? Here's your chance to promote all these musicians!

Basically, any local musicians you want to show off, here's the place to do it, because God knows they need the exposure.

Here's my friend Robbie's band Idol Threat IDÖL THREAT performing "Anarchy in the U.K." at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. (He's the one all the way on the left.) They're generally a hard rock band, who plays everything from Deep Purple to Motley Crue.

There's a group from up in the UP of Michigan called Da Yoopers. I've been a fan of them since the mid 1990s and seen them in concert probably more than any other act. You probably know their "Second Week of Deer Camp" and/or "Rusty Chevrolet". Most of their songs are comical.

There's also a great vocal quartet called Three Men and a Tenor. I saw them in concert a few times, and they were a favorite of my HS choir teacher, but I feel that their act has gotten stale. They always do the same covers, very few of their own songs, and always the same gimmicks. (E.G., singing the first part of "Stairway to Heaven", then singing "If you think that we're going to sing this whole song, then my friend, you are sadly mistaken".)

The first thing I thought of is that my local scene sort of has it's own walking embodiments of both Creator Couple and Attention Deficit Creator Disorder, Sophia Cacciola and Michael J. Epstein: They are in four different currently active bands together - I'm talking of the first four projects linked to on the header of their blog *

. This is a pretty cool music video from their The Prisoner-themed bass and drum duo Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, which remakes the original opening for The Prisoner shot for shot. This is a considerably more low-budget and sillier video by Darling Pet Munkee, their garage punk band who exclusively write songs inspired by comic book mail-order ads. This is an animated video by their orchestral indie pop project The Michael J Epstein Memorial Library. And finally, here is their children's music project Space Balloons appearing in a public access show pilot.

As for local bands that do not have the above two people in them:

Mellow Bravo are a hard rock group with a slight soul influence. "Where The Bodies Lay" was one of my favorite local songs last year, and it nicely demonstrates how powerful their two vocalists can be.

The Appreciation Post are basically Power Pop / Pop Punk with moogs - the most obvious points of comparison would be Weezer or Jimmy Eat World. here's one of their catchiest original songs, and for the hell of it, here is them covering Alice Cooper. Oh, and their lead singer is actually in a band with me as well.
