Alright, now I've launched it under Meme Acknowledgment. Anything else?

Personally, I'd like to rename this trope Canonized Meme.
Three games and can't fully use sword
[up]That's not a good name considering that many of the memes originated from canon material. And its name would conflict with Ascended Fanon.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.

[up] Hmm... you're right. I can't really think of anything else. Any other suggestions?

So do we want to rename this? I am not sure we need this.

Well, me neither. The point about similarity to Ascended Fanon was good.

Wolves, wolves, wolves!
What is the issue at hand then? I thought it's just solidifying the trope description and examples?
Lone wolf? Hah! "Lone" wolves die out of hunger and loneliness. The wolf needs the pack, and the pack needs the wolf.
There is misuse, the biggest one being that it is treated as a generic "memetic shout out" and another, more internal to this discussion, about the degree it needs to be referenced to count ie a convention presentation. Some believe it is the result of a bad name and needs to be renamed. There hasn't been a crowner to gauge opinion, basically it would be for either rename, clarify the definition or clean up (if they are even then we do them all).

Myself, as drawn by me.
As with any "misuse" on the site, I find myself having a hard time seeing any actual misuse at all ("titular", we hardly knew ye). A simple cleanup should wipe these supposed cases of misuse off the site. As far as I know:
* Ascended Meme: a trope about a work either referencing one of the memes about said work, or even promoting it as one of its elements.

And I have yet to see an example that doesn't match this definition.

But, as some troper's forum signature wisely says, "I'm on the Internet; my arguments are invalid", so feel free to tell me I'm wrong (and, most importantly, why I'm wrong).
I'm from Piedmont. No relation with Piedmon, mind you!

There are a number of examples that involve the creators of works expressing awareness of the memes that have sprung up around their works, outside of those works. (Referring to it in interviews, &c.)
Liberté, Égalité, Absurdité
Check out the Ascended Meme examples on The Office (US) page. I was close to removing them but decided not just to use it as an example.

[up][up][up]I already stated some examples - out of my head: a voice actor doing a voice work in a con of a particularly memetic phrase (see: Garland knocking people down) is NOT an example of the trope, as well as the "I'm Batman!" one.

So the problem here is that this is getting misused as a Shout-Out to memes that have nothing to do with the work.
^ Basically, yeah. If it was only the parameters of what counts as being referred to by the original source I don't think it would have been such a big deal.

Do we have a wick check at hand here? I do not feel that the name is ambiguous enough to cause this effect.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
