"Burst link." Hisako said, paying almost no heed to the rest of the boy's sentence. In that instant, she heard a sharp tinnitus-like noise, as well as a great change in her field of vision. Everything around her was tinted blue, as if seeing something from a blue lens of an ancient 3-D visors. As far as she was aware, her position was shifted a bit from where she stood before, but... was that her body standing right there?

She examined herself, and noticed that she was in her virtual avatar, wearing traditional Japanese clothes and a mask covering half of her face, there was no mistaking it. The world around her stayed the same, and by 'same', she meant that in a very literal sense; everything appeared frozen, unmoving.

Then she noticed a miniature plane, a 'bomber'-type fighter near Ryota.

She realized, it must be the boy's avatar.

The boy said that saying 'Burst Link' would activate this power. But as he himself said 'Burst Link', he would also activate this power, albeit unintentionally. Hisako then could safely conclude that whoever person that held Brain Burst could transport themselves into a separate, yet unified virtual reality by that command.

"...This seems kind of weird. This world I'm seeing, is not the 'real' world, right? The real world, was it still in motion?" Hisako said to the mini-Bomber, looking at another student who was in mid-run.

Since the mental image of a flying life-sized bomber in a school corridor was too amusing for me to consider, I hope you're not too bothered.

— Mori Ryota —

Impulsive. Great. Always makes thing easier.

"No, we're in a simulation. The game uses the cameras placed around on the walls to create a 3D simulation." while speaking, Ryota slowly hovered around so that the pairs' bodies were no longer between their avatars. "And time hasn't stopped, it's just moving really slowly. Our minds are in a state of hypertime, while the simulation shows us what's going on around us," Ryota concluded. He floated for a moment before something occurred to him.

"Do you know what 'hypertime' means?"

— Honda Masanori —

"Forget the teacher," Masanori responded, "'Cause I think the girls in this class will get more than a little angry if you start changing while you still have that," Masanori pointed directly at Hayate's crotch, "between your legs. Wearing a skirt is one thing, but dude, unless you've had some sort of crazy surgery, you're still a guy."

Masanori at this point was talking loudly enough that the rest of the class and the teacher were looking over. The teacher in particular was giving Hayate-kun/san a raised eyebrow.

"Hypertime? I'm not exactly familiar with the term..." Hisako rubbed her chin, thinking about it for several seconds, "...but to summarize, our brains are rigged to 'see' the live feed from social cameras, right? And that live feed was played in slow motion to allow us greater perception of what generally considered as 'an instant'." Hisako said.

"Well, now I see why Akio would give me this program, it would certainly help." Hisako thought, "But this kind of boost wasn't that big of a help in tennis; your instincts are more important." She nodded lightly, affirming her thoughts.

"This power doesn't have any side effects, does it?" Hisako asked, "Wait, let me phrase that better: What are the limits of this power?"

Wait desk? I was under the impression that they were in the cafeteria or sitting outside on the roof.

Amane cleared her throat before delivering her response. "Everything has turned blue. Why is that?" She gave a puzzled from as she continued. "And why are we inside our avatars anyways?"

Ah, was thinking they were having lunch in their classroom. Cafeteria works pretty well. In which case Toki is sitting on the edge of their table

"Hmmm you're noticing things in the opposite order than I expected. First... If you look at everyone around us and at your own body you should be able to realize that nobody is moving. However, time hasn't stopped... Our minds are just moving so fast that time appears to be standing still" Explains Toki "This is the power of Brain Burst... the power of Acceleration. Our minds are working a thousand times faster due to the power of the program and our Neuro-Linkers. Thus, thirty minutes for us in this state will be only 1.8 seconds in the real world"

"As for why are we our Avatars... well, to allow us to move more freely in our Accelerated state, this joint virtual space is created from the feed of the Social Cameras on the city and our own range of vision"

— Mori Ryota —

"Umm," Ryota started, "let's see, there's a few. This will only last for 1.8 seconds of regular time, which comes out to 30 min in this 'Accelerated World,' if you remember the phrase from when you installed the program. Also, each acceleration consumes one Burst Point. You start with about 90, and if you ever run out, you lose the program forever."

While he was talking, Ryota pulled up Ocean Mirror's name on the duel list, toying with the idea of challenging the new girl to block other people from doing so.

"Thirty minutes of accelerated time, huh?" Hisako put up several fingers, doing her mental mathematics. "That means, the rate of acceleration is... One thousand times?!" Reeling back in shock, Hisako shouted the numbers.

"Is that speed even possible for our brains? I thought our heads would explode for sure from that kind of overclocking..." Her voice trailed off. "But we're limited to around 90, and every time you shout that command, it decreases by one. Damn that's one tight budget right there." Hisako said.

"Is there any way to increase it? Don't tell me referring other people to this application increases your points..."

— Mori Ryota —

"It's not like that," Ryota replied, "Brain Burst is—" Ryota stopped mid sentence. This was a girl who just activated the 'burst link' command without even listening to what it did. Telling her about challenging people to duels might not be the best idea, at least not an uncontrolled environment.

"Brain Burst is a game, and you can get more points by doing well at the game, but you could lose points if you do badly. The game can activate anytime you're connected to a network, which is why I suggested you stay disconnected until you can learn the basics from your parent." Ryota continued, satisfied that his explanation would prevent her from challenging Blank Arsenal, who was at the top of the alphabetical list at the moment.

Amane pushed a lock of hair out of he face as she listened to the explanation she was being offered. Twirling a lock of hair around her fingers she gave the words some thought. If time here is slowed down that much at one second then... She let out a low whistle as she looked towards Toki. "So you can just stay here forever then? I'm not entirely sure how that will help but I definitely appreciate it!"

"A game?" In her mind she imagined something akin to Tetris, or perhaps a racing game. She recalled the moment when she accepted the application.

"So that's what he's talking about..." Hisako let out a deep breath, finally getting the gist of the application. It didn't surprise her as much as she had thought, but it annoyed her that whoever created this program put such a needlessly violent way to gather points.

But it's not like she can use the application by its interface. The terms on the menu, Matching, Status, and some others, doesn't relate with her currently poor English skills, and she didn't want to accidentally delete the application.

The boy also said that the game can 'force start' itself at times when you are connected into a network. It's not like she could disconnect from the school network, but not being connected to the global network for a day should be bearable.

Hisako tilted her head when hearing the boy mentioning her parent(s), prompting her to ask, "My parents? Have they something to do with this application?"

Hayate raisedhis hand to slap Masanori "It's been half a year already! Learn to deal with it!" The trap said, obviously very angry.

— Mori Ryota —

"Right, your 'parent' in the game is whoever gave you the program," Ryota explained. "Every player can give away exactly one copy of the game to someone else. It's usually that parent's responsibility to go through this explanation and teach the basics of how to fight, but you and I, well... things happen I guess. You should still go talk to whoever gave you the program of course."

Ryota floated pensive for a moment. Not that you could really tell his mood, being an airplane and all, the only indication of any emotion was a slight rolling back and forth, each wingtip rising a few degrees, then falling about the same amount.

"Anyway, what class are you in?" It would be good if he knew where to find the girl, in case something happened at school.

— Honda Masanori —

"Dammit," Masanori exclaimed. "What are you, stupid? What do you think Fumiko-san, and the real Fumiko-san, not you...-san, would think about you—"

"Imai," the teacher interrupted, getting up from his desk and addressing the girl behind Daisuke/Fumiko in the line, "Please walk around the seme/uke lovers-quarrel." The teacher was now walking over to the door, a pair of keys in his hand. "Masanori, go back to your seat and get ready to start changing, or something."

Finally, the teacher addressed Fumiko/Daisuke, now standing next to them. "It seems you clearly can't change either here or next door, you'll change in the staff restroom like always. Grab your things and follow me. Next time just ask for the keys after the girls finish leaving, got it?" The teacher then turned to the rest of the class, "Boys, stay in line while I'm out."

"Not forever. Burst Link lasts 1.8 seconds tops. If you want to stay accelerated more time you need either some other command or to activate Burst Link once again. As for how it might be useful... well you get an extra 30 minutes to think in class, you can use it to cheat on exams... there is a lot of things you can do if you get creative with it" says Toki as a manner of explanation "You seem to be taking this in quite calmly, Amane"

"Class 2-3, the one around the corner." Hisako pointed to a door at the end of the corridor. Hisako didn't expect the boy to reply, since the chances of her meeting him again was pretty high and she probably would run onto him again in in the near future.

She was thinking about heading for the school cafe, with the time left in her hands, but hen she remembered that she has no idea how to end this power.

"Oi, can we end this power prematurely? I don't want to be bored for thirty minutes every time I activate this power." Hisako said, please oking slightly worried.

— Mori Ryota —

"Ah, the command to end the effect is 'Burst Out,'" Ryota replied.

"Should I give out my class?" he thought. "It would be polite but..." There was that whole real identity taboo to deal with, which was already in jeopardy with this girl. Ryota had known there were other linkers at the school, but before now he had had no faces to connect.

In the end, Ryota decided to wait to see what the girl would do next.

Then did Hayate swing his palm towards Masanoris cheek.

"I am Fumiko!" Hayate yelled at him with tears in his eyes before storming out

"Ah, glad to know that there's a way out. Scared me for a bit right there." Hisako let out a dry laugh as she spoke. Truth be told, Hisako had been feeling weird since she began her first acceleration, which opened with a dialogue with a mini-bomber (like those magical girl shows).

She decided that to remain in acceleration did her no further use, "Well then, Bursr Ou-"

"Oh right, what's your name?" Hisako asked, remembering that she had yet to get his name.

And yet the bomber had disappeared.

'"H-he said 'Burst Out' just now didn't he ?" Hisako put on an amused expression. That boy can be rather clumsy at times. "Oh well, Burst Out!" Hisako shouted.

— Mori Ryota —

Ryota paused for a moment, getting his bearings after returning to reality.

"Well," Ryota began after a brief moment, having waited a bit to make sure the girl had returned to normal time as well, "That's the basics of it. I don't know when you'll meet your parent next, but you should try to do so as soon as possible." Ryota was a bit anxious to go, before the whole 'real identity taboo' subject came up.

— Honda Masanori —

"Dammit, what the hell was that..." Masanori festered as he walked out to track and field behind the school. His cheek was still slightly red.

"Never thought I'd wish he was that asocial introvert again."

"Burst Link..."

Soon enough, Honda Masanori would find himself stopped in time mid way to his track class... and just challenged to a duel by the game Brain Burst.

The stage was Jungle themed and the name of the matching list read Forest Aspis.

— Honda Masanori —

Masanori suddenly found himself within a forested area. Last time he checked the school wasn't in the middle of a forest.

"A fight huh," he said, rubbing his nose and smirking, "alright, I've got some steam to let off."

With that, Masanori raised his arm, pointing his index finger forward, slightly elevated, but not pointing at anything in particularly.

"I dunno who you think you are, but if you're a not a coward come out name yourself," he announced, while maintaining his pose. Then something occurred to him. "And, uh, ignore the fact that I can see your name on the HP bar floating at the top of my vision."

Forest Aspis

Promptly, Masanori's wish was granted, as a dark green duel avatar stepped forward from behind a pair of trees. She carried easily on one hand a massive shield, the kind one might see on movies about ancient Greece. On her right hand she carried a simple but sturdy looking spear.

As for the Duel Avatar... well, she was very human looking indeed. A tall warrior woman, lightly armored, with a high ponytail swaying softly in the wind "Faced with such challenge, I must answer it. I am Forest Aspis of no Legion. And who are you to be so rude as to demand another's name without saying your own?"

Hisako almost didn't notice that she's back into normal. Well, at least until the boy snapped her out of it.

"My 'parent', huh? Yeah, I probably should pay the hospital a visit after school today. Well, I sorta understand why he can't tell me all of this, though." Hisako's tone expressed a tint of reluctance, as she glanced aside for a second.

She quickly rerouted her glance upon the boy, "Ah, right, I never get your name, can you please tell me? My name is Hisako Irokane, written in kanji for 'Longevity' and 'child', while my surname means 'colorful metal'." Hisako said, wishing a response from the boy.

— Mori Ryota —

Ryota sighed mentally.

"Mori, Ryota. We're in the same school so either of us would likely have found out anyway, but," Mori stepped a bit closer and lowered his voice.

"Usually Burst Linkers, Brain Burse players keep their identities secret. Since this game can have real world implications..." Ryota stepped back, trusting that Ms. Irokane would be able to put the rest of the last sentence together herself.

Just then, Ryota heard a loud 'splurch' from where he dropped the sandwich he had gotten before he and Hisako had bumped into each other. The lunch-item was now quite stepped-on. Mori sighed physically this time.

— Honda Masanori —

Though it wouldn't be visible through the medieval-knight-style helmet-style head of Masanori's avatar, Masanori smirked before he began.

"Built of the hopes and dreams of heroes past present and future," He said before dramatically turning towards Forest Aspis.

"Quenched in the fires of both Heaven and Hell," He continued, planting his feet so firmly on the ground around him it left small depressions in the dirt.

"Bastion for the weak and downtrodden; staging point for the counterattack of justice, I am the invincible Steel Citadel."

Following the announcement, a gust of wind swept across the battlefield, "If you think you can get through this immoveable object, bring it!"

The physically imposing black and silver steel humanoid stood in a ready stance, black forearms raised and ready, steel greaves planted firmly in the ground.

At Ryota's step towards her, Hisako backed off a step, a bit intimidated, "Don't be afraid, Hisako, he might be younger than you." she shouted at herself.

The boy practically whispered at her as he leaned closer, his statement sent a chill down her spine. "Real word... implications?" Hisako repeated the words.

She finally pieced it together. Brain Burst was definitely a program that was capable of changing one's life for the better. However, to use said program requires cost that depended on how well you perform in this game. This game, frankly, was probably a rather violent game, if 'Online waging-war fighting game' was any indication of its true nature. Hisako concluded that she could gain said points from fighting other, real people who also had access to Brain Burst.

And if someone gained knowledge of another's 'Real' identity, he or she could practically stalk and threaten them in the real world for said 'points'. From how Ryota put it, it seemed that no measures were in place to prevent such despicable acts.

Hisako stayed speechless in the moment of tense silence.

Then came the squishing noise, which reflexively made Hisako look downwards.

"A-ah... I'm sorry about your lunch. I'm really really sorry!" Hisako bowed in apology, "I'll... pay for it later."

Forest Aspis

Forest wonders for a moment if he let his own name out as an opening for his lengthy introduction. It seems like today she had stumbled into quite a character this time... and on her very same school. Aspis tried to be careful not to connect to the global network when she could avoid it... and after realizing there were a few Burst Linkers in her schoool network she had taken measures to avoid a duel until she was ready.

Now, she would see what this Steel Citadel could do. Forest moved quickly, breaking into a run to close the distance between the two of them... using her spear to try and make a light slash on the Steel fighter at the very edge of her attack range before dashing away.
