Aladdin and Cinderella were operettas too.
I'm having to learn to pay the price@Pipping Fool: Do you mean that the movies could easily be operettas? IMO Disney should do an animated ''Naughty Marietta" or "The Rose Of Algeria." If they did do the second one I'd audition to voice Zoradie (singing and speaking) IMO "Rose Of The World" could make a great animated sequence. Does anyone know why Disney often has separate actors to do the singing and speaking?

The road goes ever on. -TolkienW Hen did Disney do Babes in Toyland? Was it a Silly Symphony?
@Robbery: No, it's a full-length movie. They did it in 1961. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054649/

The road goes ever on. -TolkienNo, I'm saying that Aladdin an Cinderella were operettas eons before they were Disney flicks. So a Disney flick based on an operetta wouldn't be out of the question.
Personally, I'm waiting for someone (preferably Disney) to make an Animated Adaptation of Georges Melies "fantastic voyage trilogy" (Trip to the Moon, Impossible Voyage, Conquest of the Poles) because not only would they be georgeous to look at, but trippy as fuck.

I'm having to learn to pay the priceI wish someone would adapt The Pirates Of Penzance just so we could see an animated take on the Modern Major General song (like the one they did on Reboot!)
Also, while not an operetta, but rather a children's play from Spain, The Prince Who Learned Everything In Books also deserves a big screen adaptation. Imagine if Don Quixote had read fairy tale books instead of ones about knights! It would be like that!

Sijo: Oh God...Disney's (or 20th -Century Fox's, or Pixar's)The Pirates Of Penzance... Crazy Awesome. Just checked the trope page for The Prince Who Learned Everything In Books, and now I agree, I'd love to see that.

Does anyone else feel that some operettas etc The Student Prince, Naughty Marietta, The Rose Of Algeria, would make perfect Disney movies? While listening to "The Rose Of Algeria," I was struck by how much it sounds like an old Disney animated movie. It has a stubborn princess/queen who will only marry the man she loves, a dashing hero, catchy musical numbers, comic relief, and a Happily Ever After ending.
The Student Prince is self-explanatory.
(In fact, Disney did adapt Babes In Toyland) Anyone else recognise these similarities?
