I enjoy these topics on the the other forums, so I thought we needed one.

Like:

Bleach: The Hueco Mundo arc had some good bits, but the plot wore thin pretty quickly and was supplanted by a lot of pointless fights and any potential subplots (Orihime, inter-hollow conflicts) fizzled out or led nowhere. And I'll just cut this short and say things got worse from, then recovered somewhat later, but not fully.

Dislike: (hmm, this is quite hard as I tend drop series that don't grab me pretty quickly)

Freezing: It did have some stunning character designs/fanservice

Like:

Clannad: It has some forced drama and Nagisa and Tomoya is way too shy.

Madoka Magica: Madoka is one of the most bland Moe character I've seen. It really didn't deconstructed anything.

Code Geass: Euphinator event was too improbable, there is also blatant fanservice( especially with Kallen)

Dislike:

Seikon no Qwaser: It has more creative ways to show fanservice and uses actual elements.

Hayate no Gotoku: Really uses fourth wall well and actually managed to parody fanservice.

Like:

  • To Aru Majutsu No Index: The plots (especially the magic side ones) tend to run on unleaded stupid, and while the ideas are creative, the actual science behind a lot of them... well, I hesitate to call it "science".Not to mention the Fanservice levels are through the roof (not always a bad thing) and author appears to be a blatant lolicon (usually a bad thing).
  • Dog Days: The implications that Shinku could be seriously hurt by the very real weapons and very real fire/explosives/FRIKKIN' LASER BEAMS in Flonyard is never really addressed, which makes him come off as seeming kind of invincible, and Milhi (while nutbladder-bustingly adorable) doesn't really have great chemistry with Shinku. Honestly, I'd be happier if he were paired off with Eclair or Yukikaze.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion/Rebuild of Evangelion: The sheer improbability of finding this many fucked up people and fucked up kids and then forcing them to work together stretches believability somewhat. Aren't there any therapists? Or were they systematically killed during/after Second Impact? Also, chill it with the fanservice. I know you promised it, Misato, but there's such a thing as too much.
  • Fate/stay night: Nasu can't write porn.

Dislike:

  • Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure: The powers are definitely creative, and it possesses the sheer largest volume of WTF I've ever heard of in a manga. And while I personally think it's ugly as shit, you can at least give credit to the art and character designs for being detailed and lovingly penciled.
  • Naruto: Ninja zombies. I gotta hand it to them here. I mean seriously, ninja zombies.

Ooooh~! I love these threads~!

Like;

  • Mawaru Penguindrum ~ The first third of the show isn't very well paced. It's really easy to get sick of the first eight episodes or so and just drop it. (but I'm so glad I didn't)
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion ~ It's pretty damn easy to dislike the three main characters. Also, the show can be a pretty massive bummer. (especially Eo E, which I also like)
  • Code Geass ~ So dramatic! Overly so. x ) Oh my goodness, can this show be over-the-top. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but with Code Geass it's pretty soap opera-y. Also, it can be pretty contrived. Again, soap opera-y.
  • Black Cat ~ UGH SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL~! I could be biased, but I really think it could've played around with some cool ideas and been something really great. Unfortunately, it opted for the generic shonen tropes and such, and while entertaining, it's nothing more than your standard shonen series with some unusually good execution. Ugh, so sad.

Dislike;

  • Madoka ~ Really cool imagery, great animation, really well-done fight scenes, and some really awesome music.
  • Cowboy Bebop ~ Again, incredible animation and music. Also, the execution of the story is just unbelievable at times. Despite how I feel about it, I see why it's such a big deal.
  • Serial Experiments Lain ~ I can honestly say I've never seen anything like Lain before. It has a really cool concept.
  • RG Veda ~ I like the story and the animation too. And OOOH~ MR. HAYAMI OOOH~

Like:

  • Gundam Unicorn - too long a break between episodes
  • Yuru Yuri - is not 52+ episodes long
  • Hagure Yuusha no Estetica - not exactly employing the "cutting edge" in animation

Dislike:

  • Madoka - Naruto/Bleach for hipsters (hey, I'm praising it! LOL)
  • Accel World - Sachika Misawa is pretty
  • Eureka Seven AO - Has "Eureka Seven" on the name
  • Guilty Crown - promising first 6 episodes
  • Kill Me Baby - The OP and ED are nice

Like:

  • Clannad: Completely skips over Kappei's story. Message of "parents live for their kids' dreams" can be a Broken Aesop. After Story's ED is nowhere near as good as other Key-Kyo Ani O Ps and E Ds.
  • Ano Hana: Final episode does get a bit too overdramatic with the crying. "Hide-and-seek" part got a little annoying. Would overall work better with a Christian view of the afterlife than with the idea of reincarnation (though I know that's asking too much).
  • Nichijou: Unfunny and uninteresting at some points. Should have started with Nano's going to school like the manga, instead of putting it in halfway. Hakase can be quite a brat.
  • Fruits Basket: Deviation from the manga means the final episode, as well as Kagura's character, conflicts with manga's themes (and also ensures we didn't get a second season). Overall pales in comparison to the manga.
  • Mahoraba: The alternate personalities are used far too little. Main couple never quite get a proper romantic resolution. Not nearly as good as the manga.
  • Kids On The Slope: Don't really like how Yurika runs off with Junichi. Failed to really represent Sentaro's and Ritsuko's Christianity properly. Ending really needed a full-band music performance.
  • Sister Princess: Horribly cliche'd characters. All the girls are way too happy with being Wataru's sister. Pretty much entirely wish-fulfillment. Wataru is rather generic. "Moxibustion" scene completely unnecessary. Yamada is annoying. Yotsuba would be really annoying to have as a sister. Episodes 4-8 are overall weak. Can completely understand why many people consider this one trash. (And yes, I absolutely love this show.)
  • Lamune: Some episodes, particularly 4 and 7, are overly visual-novel-esque and generally unnecessary. Episode 12's being entirely centered around a coma is kind of unnecessary, too. Kenji is pretty much a generic male lead.
  • Kanon (Kyo Ani ver.): Yuuichi and uguu-girl Ayu have their Relationship Upgrade kind of suddenly. (That's all I can think of right now; it's been a while since I've seen this one.)
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica: ...let me spoiler the whole thing just in case. Episode 3 was too gruesome; the image of that scene kept me from functioning in class the next day. I get the whole point of Sayaka being a tragic character, but there was no need to make her tragedy an extreme case of Unlucky Childhood Friend. Considering the show is supposed to be a Deconstruction of Magical Girls, the whole Soul Gem thing isn't really something that's a deconstruction and more just one more part to add to all the angst. Overall, most of the show is horribly depressing and I hate horribly depressing shows. (Which is why, when I say I like this show, it's more that I really, really, really love the last episode.) :P

...That was actually kind of nice and cathartic. Being able to air the grievances of the shows I absolutely love actually kind of helps me like them more. :P I'll have to do this with more of my top-tier shows.

But first, some shows I... uh, was not such a big fan of.

  • Da Capo II (first season): Set up the much-better second season pretty well. Nanaka's episode was nice. Still had some nice Otome and Yume moments.
  • Futakoi: The Ichijou sisters are actually interesting, with how they are trying to come to terms with how they are twins but also fundamentally different people. Provides the characters for Futakoi Alternative.
  • Iriya No Sora UFO No Natsu: Some good moments between the male lead and the main girl. Also... I guess the Unlucky Childhood Friend isn't that unlucky in the end? I like cheering for the osananajimi sometimes.
  • To Heart 2 (TV series and first couple OVA episodes): Overall, the girls themselves are quite interesting.
  • Amagami SS arcs:
    • Haruka: She's overall a fun character. Has a great ED song.
    • Sae: Very cute. Joji Nakata as narrator is hilarious. Everything about her was cute, including her ED.
    • Ai: An interesting character. Parts of her swimming club-related drama were pretty good.

  • Dot Hack Sign: People are right, it does drag on forever.
  • Dot Hack Roots: Bset at the beginning of the series, while consistent with her character, is annoying to watch develop.
  • Eureka Seven: Not enough focus on some important characters (Like Dominic, Anemone and Sakuya, especially Dominic)
  • Eureka Seven AO: Way too many girls on the IFO teams compared to boys. There's not really any reason for this outside Piedpiper and Goldilocks.
  • Hyouka: Lack of focus on Chitanda's uncle once his arc is over. He's still missing and therefore we have no closure.
  • Natsuiro Kiseki: No closure at all with the last episode.
  • Un Go: Episode 7, while awesome and great in tone and themes, drags on forever.

Like:

  • Hayate No Gotoku: Harem elements.
  • Gurren Lagann: The plot was somewhat predictable. Also episode 4. And the ending.
  • Hunter X Hunter (manga): The pacing could be off sometimes. Also the artwork was painfully bad at times.
  • Noein: Nothing was really explained for the for first few episodes making them seem pretty confusing.

Dislike:

  • Bleach(manga): The first few arcs were pretty good and the starting cast of characters wasn't that bad either.
  • Mononoke: The art style was fairly nice and it's fairly unique overall.

Like:

Mononoke: The Noppera-bo arc was deathly dull
Madoka Magica: Low animation quality during Sayaka's arc. And Kyouko's character changed too fast
Yuru Yuri: Kyouko and Yui have lousy seiyuu. And they should have waited longer to start the Akariin joke
Kanon: Kind of draggy at times
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Budget problems...
Princess Tutu: Production values aren't what they might be. And it takes too long to get going
Suzumiya Haruhi: Has some problems with internal consistency

Dislike:

Guilty Crown: Genuinely cool at times
Sacred Seven: Some truly impressive fights
GOSICK: Some of the mysteries were pretty good
Control: Excellent style
Dog Days: The episodes before they ran out of money had some nice action

Like

  • Eyeshield 21. The art is pretty horrendous in the first 30 chapters or so.
  • Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Leaves out a lot of important points form the VN. Animation is cringe worthy at times.
  • K-ON. Slice of life can get tedious. Leaves a lot to be desired for those who want plot.
  • Hayate No Gotoku. Can't Spit It Out is really annoying.

Dislike

  • Kannagi. Realistic. Sort of.
  • Cowboy Bebop. Epic opening and had a fun wild-west feel in space.

Dragon Crisis: Harem antics hampered by world building, but good harem antics.

Guilty C- A certain anime about "voids": Idol singer is pretty and popular. I'm glad this was important.

Infinite Stratos: I paticularly like the way all the girls hang off the main character with appropriately little importance given to their characterisation.

The Tsukihime Anime: It was truly a stroke of genius to meander gently through the souce material without a direction, and inspired to use but a single cour to cover the material orginally explored in more needless depth.

Training with Hinako: I found watching this an excellent alternative to exercising. Glad they didn't waste any budget on animation where a loop would suffice either.

Angel Beats: Why don't the main characters ever defeat god? They just run around having fun and doing things normal people might do; this would seem to be a bad contrast with the supernatural setting.

Clannad: Main character is too nice. Also, he tries to be funny.

Code Geass: Too many characters, and too much time spend characterising them all. Time that could have been spent either robot fighting or shower scenes.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: WTH is up with these characters? I mean shouldn't their actions be far more telegraphed? Why doesn't everyone wait for the main character before acting?

Nichijou: This show is absurd. The gags can be too non-stop and there's barely any exposition. Also at times it's too gentle and continuity heavy for a true gag series.

That's how you do it right?
