Mustelidae = awesome
Musical Pastiche seems to be a total overlap of Suspiciously Similar Song. The descriptiion says that Suspiciously Similar Song is supposed to be written from scratch as opposed to "Smells Like Teen Spirit with a few notes tweaked to dodge copyrights", but Suspiciously Similar Song's description disagrees.

Oh yeah, I briefly looked at this back when we (and by "we" I mostly mean I) cleaned up Pastiche. This is also a misdefinition (though not as bad as our old definition of Pastiche). As far as the actual term goes, I don't see much difference between a regular pastiche and a musical one.

I suggest making this a redirect to Pastiche, and moving the examples either there or to Suspiciously Similar Song, depending on which category they fit. (Songs that don't fit in either probably don't need a trope.)
"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.
This needs a rewrite and examples cleaning. What the definition probably should be is when a show rearranges one of its themes, "notably a show's theme tune," to resemble some well-known piece.

Then it needs a new name too, since that's not what pastiche means.
"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.

Ok, the name is wrong and is inviting misuse, and the definition seems hopelessly similar to Suspiciously Similar Song. We have two options: A) merge the examples into Pastiche and/or Suspiciously Similar Song (and presumably make the name into a redirect to Pastiche), or B) try to come up with a unique definition (and new name) for this, which seems implausible to me, but hey, I'm just one guy.

Should we have a crowner? Frankly, I think that if we're making both a new name and a new definition, it would be easier to simply start at YKTTW instead of trying to adapt some random existing page, but, whatever.

"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.
I say merge with Suspiciously Similar Song due to the overlap with the actual tropes. And nothing is really lost, since a lot of the examples in the list are actually examples of Recurring Riff.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.
