During his stream last night, Dan Olson addressed the picture and said his reason for talking with them was primarily to put a face to the name of sorts so long, and said that it (i.e conversing with those ideological foes) if you can. He stressed that he does not equate their mild civility and politeness with any sort of friendship and does not wish to normalize their behaviors. And also that he's not saying minorities or those who feel oppressed by their actions have any sort of obligation to talk with them, just that he finds an enlightening experience.

So in essence, know thine enemy.

Based on their Twitter timeline* Contra more or less implies s/he didn't expect the pic to cause such a reaction and that they'll try to be more careful about stuff. They also share a thread with Lindsay Ellis' response, which may be worth a read.

How much do you need to wave your copyright ego to actually get legit arrested for it?

She wasn't really arrested as a direct consequence of her copyright dickery so much as she was arrested for her own sake. I want to say it was a combination of showing signs of legitimate mental issues and needing help with those, and the fact that she would've kept sinking any semblance of a chance she had at defending her case otherwise.

Whatever it is, I hope the reasons for the arrest weren't that she was about to cause immediate harm to someone or herself.

My understanding is that she has been taken into custody due to the risk she poses both to herself and to others (she's issued repeated threats against others and may have been gathering information on them that would allow her to act on said threats).

Ah, damnit. I'm not too well versed in this but I hope she gets transferred from police custody to a mental health facility as soon as possible, because being locked up in a cell isn't going to make the situation better when she poses the largest risk to herself right now.

Did you guys know YouTubers have destroyed Feminism and now it's time to tackle real intellectual endeavors like Race Realists? Charles Murray and Jared Taylor are academics who won't be silenced with the same old methods. It's up to the brave geniuses of You Tube to argue with the power of logic and reason.

Or they could use Google and find out Murray was a discredited hack for over two decades. But that's not rational enough. They have to feel like they're making a difference. Going by the top comments of "there's literally nothing wrong with white nationalism" and "the races aren't equal" he's off to a fantastic start.

It's one of many responses to a dumb person making a racist video in which she cited the Daily Stormer. Lots of people are apparently all excited about this and I saw multiple videos about it pop up on my Recommendations.

While being fantastically Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance (thinking they "won" the culture war, misunderstanding some rather basic science, thinking its only "a small part" of their fanbase that holds problematic views, viewing white supremacy as a more serious academic theory than feminism).

The skeptic community got poisoned by the alt right. Most of the major visible ones on You Tube are mostly there to profit off of mocking feminism and "le SJW's". Fuck, even Laci Green sold out to them, now she's talking about being "red pilled" and making transphobic statements. Bashing social justice sells and it unfortunately sells way too well.
