I think the implication with the mayo was that he made it for the competition.

Watching the episode again, yeah, it seems that way, based on his cooking table. (I had thought that he asked the nun for some before.)

Historically, a daimyo named Matsunaga Hisahide did serve under Nobunaga and betrayed him soon afterward so I don't really trust this Matsunaga Danjo Hisahide. Anyway, Yoshiharu is not really living up his role as Hideyoshi but Nobunaga on the other hand, seems to be on her way to live up to Nobunaga's fame as a demon.

ayonnaise did not exist during then either, or if it did, it didn't have that name, iirc.

Depends, one of the origin myths puts the origin in the 1400's.

I heard about a theory which says that Nobuna intends to give the leadership to Motoyasu once she succeeds in unifying Japan so she could go sailing with Yoshiharu.

So, real life Nobunaga really never got the chance to rule Japan and so Ieyasu ruled it in his stead?

Real life Nobunaga never even finished uniting Japan. From what I gather, Hideyoshi took over after Honnou-ji and never finished before dying either. They merely paved the path for Ieyasu.

[up][up]In real life Nobunaga didn't really succeed in unifying Japan. LOL

[up]It was Toyotomi Hideyoshi that first unified Japan, but it was a fragile one. Not to mention his own invasion of Korea failed as well. For a few years though, the "West faction" and "East faction" were unified, in the 1590s. Then Hideyoshi died, and after that, the union disintegrated.

Which eventually lead to Sekigahara, 1600. The battle where all of the well-known names of the period (still alive at that point) fought in.

luisedgarf put on She Who Must Not Be Seen trope on Himiko-sama. While what he said about appearances of the emperor on Japanese media is correct, I wonder would the reason of she being passed the radar is that she was not directly referred as the emperor? Everyone called her Himiko and I suppose that's her title—and this might make her a Captain Ersatz. (This is, of course, fitting, as the Japanese imperial house, on more realistic history, came from the priestly house of the Yamato regime)

I'm curious about those blue cards Yoshikage carries around. What are those? Tarot? Uno?

[up]Exactly. The most detailed description about Himiko was brought by Hanbei and even then, she didn't directly address her as an emperor.

A little backgrounder for Ep 12:

  1. Konoe Sakihisa has reason to call himself the most Blue Blooded of all; the Konoe house is the most senior branch of the Fujiwaras. Also see Impoverished Patrician as one of the reasons for why he got his motive, and why he couldn't cut through that cell phone.
  2. Historically the Odas were only the de jure daimyo of Owari in Nobunaga's time. For most of the Muromochi Shogunate Owari was officially given to the Shiba, but due to that clan's heavy involvement in Central politics the Oda were delegated to manage Owari.

A little backgrounder for the second season (which is quite obvious will happen LOL):

Most of the names we've seen are either connected to the Oda clan (the Imagawa are part of the Eastern faction but are essentially neighbors of the Oda) or are historically part of the "Western faction" during the Sengoku period. Weirdly the only one we've really seen and heard from that is from the "Eastern faction" (and not near Owari) was Date Masamune. Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen haven't truly appeared in the first season. And still we haven't seen from the rest of the Western faction either, since we're mostly "restricted" to those near Kyoto.

[up] Justified as this point Nobubaga just got Central Japan controlled. Historically Honnou-ji happened when Nobunaga asked Hideyoshi to attack the west (Mouri Terumoto), and I think the next season won't get there yet.

This show's sales appear to have opened just under 5K. Basically, it more than broke even, but wasn't exactly a huge success. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to not get a second season, sequel hook be damned, but at least the sales leave it as a possibility.

[up] Oh, good to hear that a second season is possible. I'm not exactly craving for a second season, but I'll definitely be watching if it happens.

Episode 12: Pleasantly surprised that Saru didn't come to save the day; he basically just made the victory sweeter. Cool fight scene from Katsuie too. I also liked Mysterious Masked Man's approval of Nobuna, same with the monk saying thanks to the nun. Nice episode, and with a solid sequel hook.

Does anyone else think anyone of Nobuna, Sagara, or Motoyasu will invade Korea in this story?
