Justice Avengers: Dawn over New York

"yeah, I heard about him" crossed paths too, good man, didn't deserve what was coming to him "bad for him... on that note, what do you think of vigilantes in general?"

"Thank you" Axel said to the receptionist, almost absent-mindedly, before entering deeper into the building.

He found the shelter better looking than he expected. The people inside, not so much.

He soon spotted Ivan, talking to some matronly woman. He decided to approach them quietly.

The man shrugged. "I dunno. The radio was talking about the snowstorm that hit Manhattan, so 'round about that time."

Fitz was once again confounded by this small girl. "Um...all right?" He said, scratching his head.

"Do you need any help carrying those?" asked Simmons. "Your hands and...arms...are looking a little full."

A couple of the dogs broke off from the door. They'd been intrigued by the sent of heavily processed meat in a bun.

Jacob contemplatively bit his lip and let out a quiet noise, trying to think if there was anything else which it would be useful to ask and concluding that there was nothing else he could learn from the man.

"Thanks for your time."

At that point he walked away and returned to Quartermain.

"Any progress?"

The armor didn't budge, but Tony did answer. "I really don't think I'm good company right now, PG. No offense." Still, he didn't blast off just yet.

Mercury snatched up the approaching dogs, holding one under each arm as he nodded brusquely to Simmons, Mary, and Fitz in turn. “You stop worrying about your robots, you stop worrying about running, and you stop worrying about sorting or whatever. I’ll use these cords,” he shook them, “to hang the hotdogs under the drones, which will hover just above the dog’s reach. They lead the dogs away, we kick down the door, bad guys spend the next week picking Stark Tower laminate tile out of their teeth.” Mercury said with a grin, which he then turned on Mary. “Because Miss Mercury thought of the hot dogs, she gets to name the operation. Make it something snappy.”

Mercury then turned to Fitz, brow furrowed. “Also, how did you get here before us?”

Iron shrugged. “Well, you got me there. I’ve been moving too much lately to pay attention to the news. But are you even old enough to go into space?” She leaned against the railing as she used her index finger to trace his profile up and down. “I’m almost positive you need years of training, and you look like you’ve been drinking age for what, a month?”

Rocket ignored Moon Knight. Not on purpose, but because right now his hearing was shot. He did, however, notice Power Girl running up to Tony as the latter was walking away. "Hey, wait, Tony!" the raccoon called out. "What's going on? My hearing's shot and I just brought those two goon down here!"

Tony seemed to start to grumble something before his microphone cut off, and then clicked back on. "I just need some f..."

He stopped at that, and abruptly the thrusters on the armor turned off. He was silent a moment, before turning to look to Power Girl and Rocket.

"I want to meet with as many of the others as can managed to make it to the mansion. I need to tell you guys something."

That was a bit quieter, as though to avoid being overheard, but he kept his faceplate up.

"WHAT?!" Rocket yelled out after Tony spoke, having not heard a single thing he had said. "What did he say?" he asked Power Girl.

"None taken," Power Girl replied to War Machine. "Something tells me you need someone to vent to, though," she added with a faint, resigned smile, which disappeared quickly. "What did Geordi over there tell y-"

Then Rocket approached the two, speaking as if his own ears were affected by wherever that dog whistle had come from. The blonde sighed for what felt like the tenth time that day, and she bent down a bit to get closer to the mercenary's ear. "Dial it down Rocket, you're going to wake the NY all-nighters," she said to him, listening to what Tony said after that. "Stark just wants all of us to gather at the mansion later, is all." The way she said it was typically nonchalant of her, but she had a feeling she already knew what the man was going to tell the others about.

"Stark is the public face of every superhero out there. They don't know Spider-Man or Power Girl's address." Coulson explained to Moon Knight. "So when they want to lash out at someone... they go after him."

When Skeets didn't go after Stark, Coulson sighed. "Eh, he can't go that far. He has that interview later tonight. We'll catch him before then." He grabbed Zarrko by the shackles. "As for you, you're coming with us." He told the man before taking him back to the car.

Booster grabbed Zarrko's shoulder. "Just a second." He said, then cold-cocked Zarrko on the jaw.

Coulson groaned slightly, rolling his eyes. "Was that necessary?" He bemoaned. "Now we'll have to wait for him to wake up."

Booster pulled back his cowl, staring daggers into Coulson as he slung Zarrko over his shoulder to dump him in the back seat. "It was completely necessary for me." He muttered, Skeets puttering behind him. "Ms. Gold does raise a fair point, Michael. Perhaps we could find the parts for the time platform before they leave-" Booster snapped at him. "Skeets! Voice off for fifteen minutes, Manual Override 8850!" And Skeets fell silent.

Coulson glanced at Skeets, raising an eyebrow. "Hokay." He muttered, turning around. "Where the heck did Fitz go? Need to see if he downloaded those files..."

Tony stopped, looking to Power Girl, impassive mask giving away nothing, before he finally turned away, repulsors firing and sending him into the air, heading up and in the direction of the mansion without another word.

"No, you did not." She-Bat said, caressing Roxy's wings. "But look at them. With these... you can fly. You can do what humans have only dreamed of doing. Of course, whilst I am overjoyed that you now possess this gift... the humans would most likely hunt you down and strip you of them. That is what they do, child. They see the great, and they bring it down, for they cannot bear to look up and realize how weak and undeserving of this planet they are."

She hugged her two new followers tight. "That is why they killed my beloved husband. He was the man who helped us ascend from our mortal shells, and he payed the price. He had a vision, a world where every one saw the beauty of this gift, where all of them became just like us, where man-bat and nature lived together in eternal harmony... don't you want this, children? Don't you want to join me in this quest?... oh, but if you do..."

She frowned, letting go of the two, sniffing. "Why, the fight against the humans is so... tiring and dangerous. I would not wish to inflict upon my children such pains. Why, is it not a mother's job to shield their beloved from the terrors of the world? No... me and your brothers and sisters," At this, she pointed at the other Man-Bats. "Will fight for you, so you may one day travel freely among the skies, clearing the minds of those feeble humans and allowing them the chance to ascend. Unless... unless you two want to help us... children?"

"What else does She-Bat want? Probably expand her crazy bat empire." Megan said, shivering. "Just thinking about it... urgh. And as much as I'd want to tell the X-Men, we can't. I saw this in Carlos' mind... his friend- or what he thought was his friend- Duos, helped She-Bat take them away. And he said that if the teachers knew, then the two students chances of surviving diminished greatly. If we keep this in secret, we'll be able to sneak up on She-Bat and send her and her followers to prison. I mean, we four can do this on our own, can't we?"

"I dunno, I just think that just becomes something else you can tell them so they know how to handle this," Darwin said, "Also, I am not comfortable being the voice of reason.

"Unless, you think, she's got spies in here," He looked up the wall, toward the ceiling, as if he expected to see a hidden camera, "And she'll find out if we tattle."

"She had Duos. I don't think it's too far gone to think he was in here to spy for her. Find possible followers." Megan said, looking at where Darwin had looked.

"Pffft, who the fuck wants to turn into a giant bat of their own volition anyway?" He scoffed, but he looked grim at the prospect, "Like a crazy werewolf cult, or some shit. Ugh... you could be right."

He looked over at Jaime and Rrrrr- holy crap, what was Rouge's name? Awfully hypocritical of Armando.

"What do you two think?"

"Well, if we can manage to track them down on their own, we don't really need to tell them. At least, not until we are about to attack them ourself."

Jaime reasoned.

"So yeah, why don't we see if we can find them and if we can't then we can tell them. No sense risking things if we don't have to. I mean, even if they don't have a spy She-Bat isn't an idiot, for all we know she dropped some bugs in the building earlier and they check it everyday. If we do manage to find them, we can just send them a message requesting backup just before we attack."

"I don't think this place is bugged, unless you guys see another Man-Bat around," Rogue frowned but if that is what happened then they did have to do it alone. "But we can't risk the lives of those students, so we'll have to go it alone."

Quartermaine turned to Jacob.

"Found my share of leads," he replied. "That girl there? She's got a few mental mutant friends who were affected by the mess. If they tilted their heads in the right direction, they got a feeling there was some huge fight going on... But what about you? You find anything, Agent Russoff?"

Fitz digested the new information for a moment.

"Right," he said. "A) I don't know how we got here sooner; maybe Coulson knows a quicker route in town. B) The fighting is pretty much wrapped up inside, and C), if one tooth mark or drip of slobber ends up in one of my drones, then it's coming straight out of your pocket."

"Hey!" This girl wasn't pulling any punches around Johnny's pride, was she? "Well, if you gotta know, my sisters b- ...the scientist heading the whole deal is a real close friend of mine. 'Cause I'm the kind of guy genius scientists are friends with. Yeah."

Johnny got the feeling he was losing his foothold here.

"You know what? You know what- I'll prove it to ya. I'll get the Doc on the phone, I'll get him to talk to you, and then you can tell me if cosmic rays are real. How's that sound, smart gal?"

Iron put her hands up and shook them in time with her syllables. “Oh, by all means, get your dad to vouch for the fake origin of the superpowers you’ve brazenly dedicated to picking up women. I’m sure he’ll understand.” Iron said.

She turned and rested the bottom of her arms on the railing as she looked back out over the city. “Look, I’m sorry I stepped on your credibility toes. Go back to saying whatever, I’m sure no one else in your normal crowd will catch on.”

Gold almost froze mid-step in sheer anger as Booster silenced Skeets. A hundred different spots inside of Gold crunched together into knots large and small, and one of her exposed razor thin tendrils lashed out and cut deep into the gun. She collected herself as she rounded the car, widening and shortening her tendrils to prevent another incident. As she set the gun into the trunk, it fell apart into two pieces. She stared down at it before shutting the trunk door.

Jacob turned slightly and indicated vaguely in the direction of the man he had been talking to.

"Not much but someone over there said they saw a bald guy in a wheelchair acting weird, flailing and shouting at seemingly nothing. He went inside for a minute and then the man was suddenly gone. Could be nothing but it was while the winter casket was open and another guy said they saw 'somethin' dark cold an' swirling' with the man. Could be related."

As he indicated what the other man had said, Jacob made finger-quotes in the air.
