A red, spinning portal opened behind Yikhezkel, and the forms of Mandragora and Heliotrope stretched, then compressed into motes of purple light and flew straight into it. From the portal the tentacled, black form of Ophion appeared, the two motes circling its body.

"Now, as long as Ophion has Overlay Units, neither of us can Summon monsters of level 5 and higher," said Yikhezkel. "Though I'll detach one of them for his effect, allowing me to add the spell card Pandemic Contagion Infection from my deck to my hand."
Ophion ate one of the motes, and Yikhezkel added the card to his hand and shuffled his deck. "After that, I'll Set three face-down cards in my backrow and that'll be it for now."

Caramon held up a card to show Jacques.

"I decided that I don't use Syncho monsters enough to justify keeping them in my deck, and at any rate they don't exactly mesh will with my theme. I've looked into these Union monsters as a possible replacement for them, to act as a support cards."

Regulus gritted his teeth.

Three set cards. If my memory serves me right, the Lswarm like to use a quick-play that prevents them from being destroyed by effects. That, along with the usual panoply of spells and traps means he's way ahead in the race.

This is bad.

You're not totally out of options. There's still Ravine. Your set cards. It's just really bad that we've been outgunned from the start.

The way this is going is that we're more likely to end up losing. Hmm...

Regulus drew his next card, eyebrows nearly converging in concern.

"Draw!" Regulus said, his face clearing up. "I'll set two cards then summon Dragunity Legionnaire in attack mode!"

If my opponent summons another monster, it's going to be XYZ time for him. He's already got the materials for Ophion... hmm. He's going to banish my dragons if he gets the chance, so he didn't get Ophion - he'll most likely summon Ouroboros when he gets the chance to. That's why...

"I activate the Trap Card Hidden Soldiers!" said Yikhezkel, and the trap, showing the image of a few blue-clad soldiers hiding in a cleft in the ground while one of their number fought a tall, grey-green dragon-like monster.
"When you Normal or Flip Summon, this card allows me to Special Summon one level four or below DARK-attribute monster from my hand, so I'll do this now. Your friend over there isn't going to like this," he said, pointing at Phalanx. "Go! Evilswarm Zahak! Attack mode!"
The corrupted form of Dragunity Aklys appeared on Yikhezkel's side of the field, screeching menacingly at its former companion.
Evilswarm Zahak: 1850/850, ATK

Ophion's out. That's one worry off my mind, he may have summoned Ophion, but that means he'll need to recoup his resources to get Ouroboros out; another is the two back row cards he has... but I'll need more firepower than that to make sure I can Synchro next turn. Activating his trap also cut down his hand advantage significantly.

"Well, with Legionnaire's effect, I'll equip Dragunity Phalanx to it..." Regulus said as Legionnaire squawked, yellow arm guards appearing on it, to go with the cestus it wore, "then use its effect. Legionnaire! Give Ophion a sandwich! A knuckle sandwich! Phantasmal Counter!"

Jacques raised an eyebrow. "Unions, huh? Really good for keeping your guys alive with destruction negation. Could really put a stop to your opponent's attempts to get your Meklords out of the picture."

Sigmund appeared to the left of Daniel, Jacques and Caramon, apparently he had been there the whole time "Wow, Those are some brutal opening turns." He turned to the three beside him "Hello there."

"Hmmm...? Oh hello, there!" Jacques extended his hand for a shake. "Jacques Mandeau, Machine King user extraordinaire."

Caramon nodded to Jacques comment.

"Amoung other benefits, yes....."

He looked up at the new arrival, putting down the cards he was currently rearranging.

"Why hello there! I'm afraid I didn't notice you were right there, so sorry if I seemed anti-social. I was just engrossed in deck tweaking."

"I tend to do that, sorry. I was engrossed in my own buisness so you did not seem antisocial to me. I remember, you use the Meklords is it not?" Sigmund nodded still slightly in his own world. He shook Jacques hand, quite a firm semi-aggressive grip and shake. "Nice to poperly talk to you Jacques, I remember seeing your machine kings before." He turned to Daniel "I am sorry for canceling our duel the other day it's just some buisness came up."

He shook his head "Anyway, Nice to meet you all. Sigmund Diabola, at your service." He took his hat off in a bow with a sweeping gesture.

"Oh yeah, it's you. It's alright, it's not like the duel was over anything important."

Besides, I was winning. Daniel thought with a snicker. "Thanks for showing me an Xyz Summon, though. Something new e'rryday."

Jacques couldn't help but laugh a bit nervously. "So I guess we all drew the short draws in this tournament, eh? Speaking of which, I only kind of remember these two..." Jacques motioned at the two duelists taking centre stage. "I'm pretty sure neither are in my dorm, so it looks like Sky was a bust already..."

"I wasn't even in this tournament. Stupid weather delayed my plane here." Daniel complained. "So these guys are both in Earth Dorm? Rather ironic for a Dragunity user."

Jacques shrugged. "Most of us Sky Dorm students are less about 'We have flying monsters in our decks!' and more 'I wonder how many balloons I'd need to tie to a chair to get it to actually fly...' It's kind of embarrassing, really..."

Sigmund remaind impassive at Jacques statement and with a completely straight face and deadpan one said "With my weight and a basic wooden desk chair it takes 73 ballons to make it float. But yes, having a reputation as a complete airhead is rather embarrassing, I'm more unhealthily curious than empty headed."

Daniel looked at Sigmund and asked "You wouldn't happen to be in Sky dorm, would you?"

"I am bu I'm no some sort of foolish Air head. I have an insatiable curiosity and desire to discover new things as such many senarios like the one mentioned I have tried at some point or other." Sigmund nodded. "I'm guessing that you are in sea?"

"Yeah, that's what they told me when I got here."

Caramon nodded.

"Well, it's good to meet a fellow dorm-mate then. I'm also in Sea, you see. Pun intended."

Yikhezkel stood by as Ophion was cut down by Legionnaire. "Oh, he'll be back, don't worry," he said and motioned for Regulus to continue.

"Oh, you're also in Sea." Daniel replied, deciding to ignore the pun. "Maybe we'll bump into each other sometime."

Denero stared at his notebook, he’d hoped that deck building would take his mind off the events of last night, but to no avail, he was about to leave not really caring about the result of the duel when he overheard the group of students behind him.

“the Dragunity user’s called Regulus, he beat me a cupple of days back” Denero spoke leaning backwards over the chair,

or more to the point Solemn Judgment beat US

Looking at the students, he recognised 2 from his dorm, plus Sigmond.

O good……. This guy again…

“By the way, the names Denero, Denero Potenza, Sea dorm” he said turning the right way round to talk to them.

"Good to see you again Denero." Sigmund smiled. "So he's called Regulus is he?"

Freed just grinned "Hello again old boy!" He said talking to the spiit he still couldn't see.

"Oh yeah, I've seen you around before. So you're Denero. Nice meet you." Daniel said while offering a handshake. "So he's named Regulus. Then who's the other guy?"

Sigmund pulled a face "Edward Elric."

"THAT'S NOT HIS NAME AND YOU KNOW IT!"
