Yu Gi Oh!: East Academy

"Wow, that's amazing Sophia. Do you mind if I call you Sophia? If you do, then I apologize. These Xyz monsters sound like they might be just what my Crystal Beast deck needs to bring my deck up to the next level. I had some minor alterations I planned on making to make my deck flow better and more smoothly, but if these cards fit my deck like I think they might, they may just be enough for a major overhaul. Allowing the brilliance of my Rainbow Dragon to shine brighter upon this world than ever before! Allow me to thank you both for opening my eyes to options I was previously unaware of, by making this duel with you, Art, one that shall never be forgotten."

"That's completely fine, deary," said Sophia. "This is Israel, not Britain. While rudeness isn't a good idea, so is distance between teachers and students. You are, I believe, one of Steven's students — he's the head of Sky dorm — but feel free to drop in any time."

Listening to the explanation of the Xyz monsters, Justin tried to memorise it. These things weren't something he'd looked too much into, and as such hadn't really absorbed information, but if he was going to go to an academy... well, better brush up.

That Roxas guy seemed rather passionate about the info, though. Justin thought it was a little overblown, but hell, he'd seen grown adults practically worship cards before. Gushing about how pretty the Dark Magician girl was, or how epic Kuriboh was. Hell, Justin himself could rant for a while about how amazing the Heroes were.

...This card game sure could bring about odd actions.

"Yeah, lets make this something we can remember!" He just needed to draw the right card, and then he would be able to tear down this guy's options.

Insofar, he had seen some of this guy's trap strategy, so he could infer those other cards were meant to defend him.

Drawing his card for his turn, he smirked. This could work in an interesting way. "For my turn, I summon another of my Heroic Challenger Spartas!"

The same monster as earlier appeared, and Art thought on how his facedown and this would combo.

Peter sighed a little when he heard Roxas was in the Sky dorm. Something about the kid was rubbing Peter the wrong way-perhaps it was just the fact that he had money riding on this duel-, so he'd been hoping they would end up in the same dorm. Of course, even if they in the same dorm, he'd have to know the layout of the building before he could try anything elaborate. But surely could've still done basic stuff, like-

He forcefully severed that train of thought. He'd decided not to act like that anymore. He was supposed to be cool and composed here. Well, cool probably wasn't possible in a desert, but he could at least manage composed.

He focused his attention back onto the duel. It was going well, if he was any judge. Art was gaining confidence, and Roxas was losing ground. Sure, Roxas appeared to be in control of the field, but Peter liked to think he had an instinct for such things, and these instinct were telling him the situation would quickly change.

A small blush came over Roxas's face and he began to scratch the back of his head with his free hand.

"Thank you Sophia, I would love that."

After he said this, he shook his head as if to clear it of distractions. His arm moved back to its regular position, the blush disappeared, and as he watched Art start his turn a determined look came over his face.

"So another Heroic Challenger steps up to the plate. Very well, I shall face your challenge like I face all things. Head on, backed with the strength of my convictions."

"Alright, Spartas, attack his Eagle now!"

Spartas rushed forward and stabbed at the Eagle with its lance.

Once again the Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle was destroyed, this time costing Roxas 200 life points, bringing him down to 7800. Making him even with Art.

"Once again, out of the death of my Cobalt Eagle comes a shining beacon of hope, and my tree gains one more crystal."

As he said this, where the eagle's body once stood came the same crystal as earlier, coming to float at the same spot it did earlier. The crystal tree gained one more cobalt crystal, making the tree grow a little bit stronger and healthier than before.

"Alright, that ends my turn for now. Its your turn, Rox."

He did not know where that nickname came from, but it just came to him. Easy to roll off the tongue too...

"Intriguing," said Jacques as he rolled his eyes. "If Art doesn't kick this newbie's ass I'll..." Jacques suddenly remembered what dorm he was from. "This weirdo is in my dorm?! Ugh..."

Finally paying attention to the commotion Sigmund shut his book.

"Well partner, It looks like the fun has already started. Shall we go meet our new compatriots?" He said to the monster sitting next to him. Sure it made him look slightly nuts but he had noticed that other students had duel spirits. "I only have one complaint and that is that this god damned country is boiling! I really shouldn't of worn this coat."

He was right to him this country was a lot hotter than his home in the UK. Still better to get used to the heat sooner rather than later.

The monster at his side Dark General Freed just grunted and looked at him saying "You're hot? How do you think I feel in all this armour?"

In truth Sigmund did pity him slightly on that front.

Walking over to the duel he noticed the current field "Hmm. Heroic Challengers vs Crystal Beasts? Should be fun." He turned to one of the boys beside him "So what are the life points as they stand currently? And what's the betting at?"

Caramon looked at the new person, blinking slightly. He couldn't see....oh. Right, that was his Disk's projection. Handy, but other people didn't really see it in its non-dueling form, considering it was currently only showing up when something changed. He'd have to work on getting the rest of it up to scratch, but that was for later.

"They're both at 7800, so you haven't missed much. And I don't bet on duels, usually, so I have no idea on that front.

He stared at the duel field "So they stand on equal footing so far? Then this could prove interesting. I'd be surprised if no one has made any bets yet. Human nature and it's competitively come into play on that front."

He looked at the boy he looked slightly older than him maybe a year or two? "No matter. Anyway I'm Sigmund nice to meet you. Sky dorm I believe, if I remember correctly."

Jacques' ears perked at the sound of someone mentioning Sky Dorm. Turning he spotted an older boy in a jacket. Guess I'm bored enough to not really care about the bet... he thought to himself, as he approached Sigmund.

"Hey, you also in Sky? Name's Jacques. Since Art is going to mop the floor with the Crystal Beast user anyways, how about a duel to pass the time?"

"Vajrayana, no!"

The mounted knight dropped his weapon, put his hand over his chest, shuddered, and then went up in an explosion.

"Wahahahaha~" Hakamichi Atsuko said, right before she had her Madolche Magileine attack, "and that's game."

Regulus dropped his head. His new friend was a bit air-headed and chatted about frivolous matters, but her Madolche deck was fearsome - fearsome enough that he had only won one out of the three times out of their practice duel.

"Man, that wasn't too good," Reggie muttered as he looked over the post-match duel results, tapping at his tablet PC to figure out where he had misplayed.

"Don't worry, Reg," Atsuko said, "you did what you could in spite of a rather bad matchup. That means you're getting better!"

"Maybe," he muttered, looking up and seeing that two schoolmates were already dueling, with another pair about to begin. "So what dorm are you from, Miss Atsuko?"

"Me?" the pink-haired girl asked. "The more important question is, what dorm will you be in?"

That last question had left him deep enough in thought that when he was called to take the plane ride to the Academy, some time had passed, the duels and waiting had already finished.. and the girl he talked to and dueled against was nowhere to be found.

Odd, he thought, his mind not completely there as he spied a card lying on the floor near where he was seated. Picking it up, he saw a familiar figure.

"Madolche... Puddingcess..." he whispered.

Mort had taken to silently watching the duel unfold. With both players at 7,800 Life Points, you could hardly say Caramon was dominating, but he had certainly turned thing around in his favor a bit. The playing field was a bit more even now without Art's Excalibur around, and the two had been going back and forth since. 'It's really hard for me to say how this duel is going to go...' he thought to himself. 'Roxas' traps have been keeping him safe, but they can only last so long. If he doesn't build some better board position soon, he'll be in trouble...'

Mort's attention was pulled away from the duel as two more guys, classmates from the Sky Dorm it seemed, approached him and Caramon. Turning to them, he offered a hand to shake. It would be best to introduce himself to his classmates before he had a chance to duel them. He didn't want to end up being called "that zombie kid" again, like last time. "You're more of our classmates, then? It's nice to meet you. I'm Morton Young, but you can just call me Mort. I'm from Earth Dorm."

Jacques turned to look at the newcomer. About as pale as he was. Huh. Glancing at the hand extended before him, Jacques was disappointed to not see a valuable watch on the wrist, ripe for the picking. Best shake his hand anyways...

"Jacques Mandeau. Any idea what the relationship between the dorms are like anyways? I know that it was pretty confrontational at the Academia Island Academy, so I want to know whether I should be happy to see you or preparing to kick your ass so hard your grandkids will feel it."

Shaking Jacques' hand, Mort though for a moment. He hadn't heard much of anything about the Academy's dorms, and certainly not anything about their relationships with each other. That wasn't the kind of stuff academies and business tend to put on their brochures, unless they're just saying whatever nice-but-not-provable things they could think of to make themselves sound good.

He shrugged slightly and shook his head. "I wouldn't know, sorry." he replied with a small chuckle, "But I certainly hope it's more of the first and less of the second."

Caramon turned his head from the duel, and joined the growing conversation. It wasn't like it was holding his attention that much right now, considering that both of them were pretty much just stepping carefully around each other, and appraising each other. Hopefully that would change, soon-ish.

"And I'm Caramon. Sea Dorm, so I won't be seeing that much of either of you, relatively."

He thought for a moment, before answering Jacques question. "Well, the dorms on Duel Academia Island were set up that way to give people a sense of progress, I think. Our dorms here are based around the archaic European themes of four elements that make up everything, being equal in their proportions and importance, together providing the balance that makes up the world. I mean, different civilizations gave differing levels of importance to different elements, and oftentimes different lists of the basic elements but across a surprisingly large portion of the world, such similar ideas are basically the same."

He paused for breath, and realized that he had just given an overly complicated, and completely unnecessary speech. Crap.

"Umm.....so I think they're of relatively equal importance."

Jacques raised an eyebrow at Caramon's explanation. "Well riddle me this, Point Dexter; where's the fourth dorm? I mean, there's Earth, Sea, and Sky. You said there were four classic elements. That means we are short one."

Caramon blinked.

"Well, Eastern civilizations had five, not four....", He started before stopping himself from going any farther.

"Are you sure? I'd just have assumed that we haven't met anyone from it yet, but you're right, there hasn't been any mention of a Fire, or Wood, or Metal, or any sort of 4th dorm.....curious."

"Well, maybe it's not referring to the classical elements. It seems more likely to me that it's referring to Earth, Sky, and Sea as domains, really." suggested Mort, adding his two cents to the discussion. "That would still suggest a similar sort of relationship between the dorms, though."

Grinning at the conversation he looked at Morton "I do believe you are right Mort. You don't mind if I call you Mort right? Anyway I believe that it may be referring to the domains of the world. Earth, Sea and Sky worshipped as gods since ancient times best seen with the Greeks; Gaia the Earth, Uranus the Sky and Pontus the Sea. Another example is the Hebrew legend of Ziz the Sky, Leviathan the Seas and Behemoth the Earth. The relationship is one of constant balance with one another and I believe that that may be the nature of the relationship of the dorms rather than a social caste system."

"You really like to listen to yourself talk don't you?" Freed remarked snarkily from behind him.

"Not now!" Sigmund muttered under his breath. Turning to Jacques "Anyway right now I would rather not duel I'm much too hot and won't be at my A game until I get acclimatised. This place is A lot hotter than my homelands of Sweden and the UK. Anyhow it's nice to meet one of my dorm mates already." He grinned like a madman and took his hand and shook it.

"Madman"

"Shut it!" Under his breath.

Jacques snickered. "Heheh... Uranus..." Getting a grip on himself he realized he was shaking Sigmund's hand. "Well, the heat is why I want to duel. Sitting around doing nothing just makes me think of this crushing heat more. If I'm dueling, I can focus on that instead."

Markus sighed, and turned off his duel disk's recording function. No real use for it right now, anyway, and he'd have plenty of use for it later. At the same time, he activated it into Duel Mode.

"Alright. I guess I can oblige you."
