PROJECT COMPLETE
Therefore, I am creating this thread to clean up hottip markup in the wiki, and do one of the following:
- Remove the hottip and weave the explanation into the description.
- Replace the hottip with either the note or labelnote markup, as appropriate.
Syntax for a note markup is (for those who are unaware):
[[note]]-text to be revealed-[[/note]], which yields: note
Syntax for a labelnote is: [[labelnote:-text to be displayed-]]-text to be revealed-[[/labelnote]], which yields:
-text to be displayed-

Also, I split Hottip Cleanup T into two vaguely equal chunks, because it was so long that it was in danger of breaking the page.

Shouldn't there be a note in the Hot Tip Administrivia page about hottips being phased out?
(I'd do it myself, but I'm still new, and don't want to overstep my bounds.)
I teleported home last night / With Ron and Sid and Meg / Ron stole Meggy's heart away / And I got Sidney's leg - Douglas AdamsI'm trying to get the hottip page replaced with a sandbox I made about a week ago.
However, I've received no contact about doing so, and I'm not ready to get banned over this.
My only objection to putting that in place is that, AFAIK, this issue hasn't been fixed yet.
That's a fair point. With that said, I would like to make a note on the administrivia page for Hottips to note that they are being phased out.
Done. I added a link to the sandbox as well...if/when it's approved, we can swap it in.
While we're at it, would this be a good thread to discuss the use of labelnote to replace spoiler tags? I find the white blanking out of text inconvenient, as it's hard to tell which text is potholed to what.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartI don't think this thread is the right place; that's a much larger discussion that should probably happen in Wiki Talk. Personally, I don't want to see spoilers replaced with labelnotes because it's harder to highlight larger amounts of text and it would look worse on the page than whited-out text. I have other issues with the idea, but I can't articulate them.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I just ran Footnote Fever through a program to replace all the hottips with labelnotes, and then fixed some more things by hand.
With Guardian Heroes, I used "Who?" instead of the default label for the note identifying characters pictured.
I just replaced the hottips with the labelnotes on the Memes.Game Show page.
To make things easier, I added a line to my script that replaces simple hottips (those using the * sign, and without potholes or spoilers). The test on NightmareFuel.Shin Megami Tensei worked.

Get rid of the walled gardenAccording to my script, I fixed 200 pages today, concerning hottips. (Though I didn't check all of those.)
Now if I can make my script also correct our hottip lists...
Get rid of the walled gardenAt least for me, the "label" code doesn't work when you're previewing a page before officially saving your changes; I get the sub-scripted word or *, but it's not a clickable link. It's not a crippling flaw, but it is annoying. Any way to fix this?
http://www.mansionofe.comHmmm, did you notice that in the preview? Me thinks it doesn't work there.
Or do you have two labelnotes with the same content?
Get rid of the walled gardenI'm speaking of what you get when you click the Preview button while editing a page. It would just be nice to able to confirm you've done the coding right before saving. The old hottip code works under these circumstances. And yes, I confirmed I had gotten the new coding right after I saved the page. (It was for Doctor Doom, if it matters.)
http://www.mansionofe.comAlready reported as a bug here. More nagging in that thread may or may not persuade FE to pay attention. It's certainly something I'd like to see addressed.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. So just to be clear — a labelnote is what to use if I want to preserve the *, where "note" in the middle of a sentence would look bad, right?
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Yeah, and it lets you use other messages if you feel like it, which I did with the caption on Costume Porn.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Running into problems on Hold Your Hippogriffs. The labelnote markup italicizes and raises the words, which the hottip markup didn't do. We may need a new solution here.
Just wanted to tell you that I reunited the indexes for T. Meanwhile, the list is short enough not to break the wiki anymore.
Get rid of the walled gardenI've replaced all the hottips in Characters.Digimon Xros Wars The Young Hunters Leaping Through Time with notes, however a few of the notes seem to not be working. All the Fusion Dance notes except the first one as far as I can see. I have no idea why that is so.
Identical notes not working right is another known bug. If two or more notes have the same text, then clicking on any will open the first one.

Characters.Wreck It Ralph has "(Note: Each entry is accompanied by a brief note detailing the character's official bio from the movie's site, unless he or she doesn't have one. All characters, with the exception of the cameos, have their bio hidden in a hottip*, in order to save some space.)"
It's in each of the subpages.

I'm fixing those I come across. I'm a bit busy to do more, but I'll give help anyway.
