Duplicate Trope: AMV

This page describes AMVs as Animash videos (videos that are based on animated animal movies, apparently?). This would be very confusing for those looking up AMV as the more commonly known Anime Music Video, which is described on the page Fan Vid.

Should examples of this just go under Fan Vid? Any suggestions of what to do with this would be appreciated.

Well, just to start with, we don't want articles named with initialisms. (Rare exceptions occur for cases where we're trying to be coy, like BFG, but those are very much exceptions.) Whatever else may happen, the article needs to be renamed.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.
AMV is a term that's been around for a LONG time, and used by the people who make such things.

MY problem with the trope is it's fan-myopic approach to discussing the subject matter: It seems to have a heavy emphasis on Disney animals, when, a search for AMV reveals that the subject matter is anime-based. In fact, AMV seems to stand for ANIME music Video, not "Animated" (the contention being that the music is set to Japanese cartoons). As i search for "AMV" anywhere, the results are overwhelmingly anime in nature. I can't even find ANY results that match what this page seems to be talking about. I search for "AMV" on youtube and the results are mostly Bleach, Haruhi Suzimaya, Final Fantasy 7, Naruto... not a single "101 dalmations" or anything of the sort. Perhaps all that stuff needs its own page: Animash"

I would vote for "Fan Vid" to be turned INTO "AMV", because "AMV" is the colloquial term used for the media.

It may not want to be what this site wants, but that would be like refusing to call Star Trek "Star Trek" because we don't like the use of the word "Trek" (for whatever reason, just making up a possibly strawman example)
I've never heard AMV referring to something other than Anime Music Video. Well, among Internet-based initialism, but that's something else.

It's very strange that what appears to be a subtrope to Anime Music Video gets that name, and the supertrope is called something else. Anime Music Video, despite its name, isn't strictly about anime, but I think it's more common. I have heard music videos based on western TV shows been referred to as AMVs as well.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

I would prefer the Fan Vid page to keep its original name rather than it being turned into Anime Music Video because the Fan Vid page describes videos made for different types of media rather than just anime (see the film, live action TV, and western animation sections).

I suppose Fan Vid could be turned into a supertrope, but making an Anime Music Video page might be a bit tricky, as fandoms outside of anime sometimes refer to fan videos as AMVs as well (the Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom, for example).

I say we just merge this with Fan Vid. I see no reason why it really needs to be a page of its own.
I have no problem with "Fan vid" being a super-trope. I just don't think it's proper for the "Furry Music Videos" to be claiming the title that denotes the entire medium.

As for "Anime Music Video referring to all fan vids, "anime" is just another term for animation, but there's a good number of live-action fan-vids as well, so the term wouldn't hold up.
Not a sub trope. There's nothing tropably different about setting clips from Lupin III to a song and setting clips from Farscape to a song.

At most, it deserves a note within the Fan Vid description.

[up] Honestly, I pretty much think that it should only even be in the example section of Fan Vid. The fact that AMV could refer to animash (?) videos is a somewhat obscure fact and it would make more sense to discuss these types of videos with the rest of the popular combination examples in Fan Vid.

...Although the Fan Vid example page itself could certainly use some cleaning up. :/

I say, merge the articles. Make Fan Vid the article title, make AMV a redirect; note the use and meaning of "AMV" in the article.
[up]The first line is "Also known as AMVs or Anime Music Videos."

Agree: Distinction without a significant difference. Merge the pages, making especial note of the DTV (Disney Music Video) origins (Read: Put the DTV entry in the description).

I think it is a better option to merge, as earlier suggested.

+1 for merge

I redirected, but a) I have no idea if there's anything I should incorporate into the description of Fan Vid and b) I think we should actually cut the initialism and use Anime Music Video as a redirect.

No, the other one.
Anime Music Video is now a redirect. No reason not to.
