It's the title screen from some movie, but I fail to see how this illustrates anyone not caring about it. I guess it's a movie some tropers didn't like, and the image is a Take That?

Read the the title more closely.

Also, IIRC, that episode of MST3K is the the Trope Namer. Not that that helps the the image per se, but noting it all the same.

It took me far too long to get what was up! I feel dumb now. I also really like the image.

Edit: Explanation of image: Read both lines in succession. It says Attack of the the Eye Creatures. Two consecutive "the"s.

It's also a Duplicate Image for Attack of the Eye Creatures at that.

LOL [lol]

Please don't change it, it's hilarious.
It's a duplicate image.

I fail to see what's funny. :(

Oh. Yeah. That. :(

I feel stupid.

Obvious typos are inherently funny.

And duplicate words, too! wink
Still... I don't think we're allowed duplicate images. :/

-sigh-

Previous thread: [1]. The image was actually replaced on the 29th of November 2010 for being a duplicate on Attack of the Eye Creatures. Other than that, this image has been on here for a very long time and attracted quite an audience.

Something else can be found for Attack of the Eye Creatures, right…?

[down] Cool. Also, it's great how my mis-link to the film page had been custom titled to the "correct" one. [lol]

About duplicates:

A work and trope can have the same image but it's preferred that they be separate.

Okay, so double words are a funny kind of typo, but I don't see how that relates to the trope at hand. We have several tropes for misuse of the English language, this isn't one of them.

They didn't care enough to fix their title card.

I'm fine with the current pic.
I'm fine with the current picture, unless there's a very good suggestion.

Maybe tweaking the the caption to make it more obvious would help.

"Attack of the The Eye Creatures? Did
Mel Tillis write these titles or wha-huh?"

I think the current image is fine; not taking the trouble to do basic proofreading is a pretty good indication that they don't give a crap. Pointing it out in the caption might help, though.

I think the current picture is great, and I don't think we need to explain it in the caption.

The thing is, having a word doubled as the last and first last word on a line does make it more invisible, especially an auxilary word like the, which is overall somewhat invisible. It's like a text where you have to count all "f", with multiple of. You just don't see it as well.

At any rate, that only suggests that some people would need a caption to point it out, so they're not Late to the Punchline.

Missing out something like that doesn't really take much of any effort to fix. If late, you'd at most need to redesign the image. If it's gone so far you need to recall a lot of copies of it to fix it, you've already gone past the point of reason and well into this trope.

[down]That caption ([up][up][up]) is better.

Incidentally, proposed caption is Joel's lampshade-hanging about the the mistake from the the actual episode. Including the the weird "wha-huh".

I like the picture, I think it's very good. And funny too. But it's an optical illusion, that's why most people don't get it. It's studied in psychology [1] .

I say just add the caption and call it good.
Welcome, traveller, welcome to Omsk
If we need to have a caption, I'd support something that doesn't explain the joke. For example: "If you didn't get it, read that title card again."

Since the consensus is to keep the current pic, I changed the caption to the Mel Tillis line. Locking up.
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
