So, dumb question, how familiar are the Knight Leaders with one another? Like, have they met each other in person or have they just heard stories or what?

It varies. Some knights are related, and so they know each other personally. Other cases are that they fought together in wars (they're the king's most elite squad) so they have met in person, but not to a level where they know each other personally.

So, in that case, Douglas probably wouldn't have met any of the other leaders in person yet since, in relative terms, he hasn't been at this for very long and he mostly relegates himself to small-time stuff rather than big battles.

Edwin has never met with any of the other Knight Leaders personally and only knew them from stories, rumors, and anything he hears from his predecessor. The ones knows of certain is that the Gold, Black, Cyan, and Yellow Knights are total badasses, the former three, the Magenta and Violet knights are VERY willing to kill, that White, Violet, and Purple knights are related (Purple and Violet twins with White being their cousins), Mac Beth is a bit of a psycho, and the Turquoise and Gold Knights are the only Knight Leaders who use multiple Pokemon types.

A Crimson Harbinger
Not much is known about how Isador came to be a knight leader and the stories differ from person to person. Some claim it was at the request of the former king, some say that it was because he owed the king a favour, others say that he inherited the title from the former leader and others say that he killed the former leader and took the title for himself. The only ones who know the truth are himself, His Espeon and the former king.
He was seen at the front of the former kings forces many times leading the kings troops and his Crimson Knights. His motives however remain a mystery while he is open and honest about his lineage and what he thinks of his role as a knight leader and is more than happy to share stories with people about his travels even to the point of trying to get chefs at the castle to cook some of the dishes he learned abroad to varying degrees of success.
