It's a perfectly fine plot in isolation. It's just that we've seen that particular character progression several times in recent years.

Bozebeats! My, my, we have a strong new contender here. That's the best opener we've had since Neverland, if you ask me… The story starts with Ryuudaiji, a Buddhist Church Militant who helps corrupted souls pass on by shooting them to the afterlife. In a haunted forest, he meets with Tamaki, a young boy Raised by Wolves who doesn't know who he is, but turns out to host a huge and unnatural power inside him. After his wolf mother is killed by an evil spirit and her soul fuses with his, and Ryuudaiji seals his power, he becomes Ryuudaiji's disciple to start searching for his identity.

The art is strong, the writing is strong, the characters are likeable and the premise is intriguing − albeit not entirely original. I'll definitely keep an eye on this one.

Meanwhile, Cross Account's last chapter was… surprisingly good actually. Again. It's frustrating as hell that this series had such a shitty start. Also, poor Mao got completely forgotten there.

Golem Hearts already has a surprisingly high bodycount for a series supposedly aimed at children…

Bozebeats looks like it could be a contender.

Golem Hearts is doomed.

I love Black Clover but even I'm baffled by its position. It is NOT a better series than MHA.

I wouldn't take the rankings that seriously. Look at the most recent ranking: KnY got first place, but that doesn't make it more popular than One Piece, or MHA, or Haikyuu.

Yeah, the rankings just indicate a general trend among regular readers − the number of votes isn't made public either as far as I know. What counts ultimately is the volume sales.

From what I've seen, the rankings are very important early on, but once they're confident the series has developed a solid fanbase it's the sales that matter

Shokugeki no Soma kind of embodies this. Its rankings were abysmal at points, but it was like the 9th best selling manga of last year, and its anime is a massive hit as well. It won't be going anywhere.

The low rankings made me worry about Robot X Laserbeam, but apparently the volumes have been doing alright.

Well, it has a unique artstyle for one. IMO its cast is also quirky and funny while still having depth to the characters. The main character, Tanjirou, is a rare example of a goody-two-shoes MC that doesn't come across as annoying or preachy. He's like a less campy Jonathan Joestar.

Its biggest selling point IMO is how intense and suspenseful the battles are. If you have some free time, the Spider Mountain arc (chapter 30-ish IIRC) is when it's regarded as getting really good.

Act-age: This could be interesting if the characters really struggle with the line between "give a great performance" and "keep the heroine sane."

I'm liking "Bozebeats" so far. It's kind of like Blue Exorcist, but with More Dakka.

I read the first volume of Kimetsu no Yaiba today. It is pretty good story-wise, but the art is a bit too stiff, though I suppose it gets better. The panel layout is often too bland, notably.

But overall it kiind of gives me D. Gray-Man vibes (which includes a few sudden and awkward tone shifts, unfortunately). I do think the anime could do wonders to fix its flaws, so I hope it's good. Which means, not made by Pierrot.

edit: Wait, Kimetsu is getting an anime, right? I'm starting to doubt my own memory…

Huh… I wonder why I thought it was… It would be weird now that think of it, the series isn't even 2 years old. >.> Although YSYS is getting an anime and it started at around the same time…

Gosh, why don't they just put Golem Hearts out of its misery?

It probably won't be too long, though it seems to depend on the period. Love Rush and Red Sprite were mercilessly shot down after a dozen chapters, while Hungry Marie, Cross Account and Shuudan were given at least a chance at a proper ending. They just launched two new series though, so I'm not sure they're gonna axe anything right now.

…Meanwhile, Bozebeats is still promising. The action scenes are indeed a bit messy though. It makes up for it with good writing and pacing so far. "No bikers worth a shit let a bunch of Chimi kick their asses!!" (yes, that's written in English)

They need to find something to replace it with before they can remove it.

Robot Laserbeam is the best it's ever been with the recent chapters. I'm a bit sad about the low ranking, but it's not really surprising.

Well, R×L has always been jumping up and down the rankings, that's nothing new.

Bozebeats introduces its first female character, which is very welcome in this sausage fest… Except she had to be an idol. And kind of a bitch. Not a very good start. The plot moves forward a little bit though.
