Vann was rather far from the explosion, so he was safe from it. It transpired so frighteningly fast. Truly, if every battle with demons were this vicious, Vann wasn't sure he could survive it until the end. Dismissing those dark thoughts aside, Vann felt the urge to ask Billie yet again whether she's fine (especially after that explosion; it looked like it hurt), but he figured that would be bugging her too much; and he still felt a bit guilty over that. With a deep breath, Vann exited his transformed mode.
Vann gritted his teeth, why couldn't he do something? His reaction speed was too slow, he was doubting whenever there was an opening, would he hit his friends? Would he made the situation worse? Such questions prevented him from acting. He could've used the water bullets he formed to shield his allies, yet he cared more about his own safety.
In his mind, Vann mumbled, "Fighting with others has never been so hard."
It seemed that two or three Orbkeepers had left in pursuit of the demon, leaving Vann, Billie, and Carwyn. Vann refused to look at Billie for the moment, but he didn't know Carwyn that well, either. Then his attention fell upon the small ball of black liquid, floating two or three centimeters above ground near where the demon was. It was the liquid Vann attempted to lift, in his plan to use it against the demon. Most of the liquid had disappeared, but that small ball Vann took control was left with him.
With slight curiosity, Vann quickly drew it to his palms.
