Re Lex doesn't seem tropeworthy. There are only 3 examples, few inbounds, and it seems redundant.

Merge with Conlang, I think. It's The Same But More Specific; it might merit a separate article for a wiki more focused on linguistics.

This is actually mentioned on the con lang page as one of the subtypes. I can see the merit in making con lang a super trope and expanding out the other types into subtropes, though.

This page countains too few examples, but I like the article. It should stay and receive help instead of cutting.

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.

This trope is essentially a Cypher Language as applied to words rather than to characters.

It's very clearly a trope of its own. It can be merged into Cypher Language, but that would necessitate an expansion of the definition there, which I'm not sure is the best course of action.

The definition of the first Conlang type is pretty much what this is. I wonder if examples from there can be moved here, which I think would be more appropriate. I don't think Cypher Language differs more from the regular Conlang than this do.

Yeah, we already have this. Let's merge it. Also, Conlang is an established real-world term and Re Lex is not.

Re Lex might not be a term but "relexification" most certainly is.

I support going through the Conlang list and finding examples that fit this. I suspect most Con Langs, if not this, are at least an Indo-European Alien Language.

Should we change the name to the actual term?

That wouldn't solve the small inbounds/wicks problem, although I suppose it would help with findability.

I'll go through the example list for Conlang and Indo-European Alien Language tomorrow.

I think a rename to relexification would work. Conlang really should be a supertrope with the other types split into their own pages as well.

I'm still pushing for a rename to the real term.

I'd say run through YKTTW under the pre-existing name.

Unless someone wants to step up and volunteer to run a YKTTW, I think merging with Conlang is the best solution. Note that this won't prevent someone in the future from going to YKTTW with the idea, but keeping this thread open indefinitely on the off-chance that someone will volunteer seems pointless.

[up]That's not the problem. Three examples and no hope of growth is the problem. We're a fiction site, not a linguistics site.

Renewing the clock. If no one interested in working on this steps up until then, I'm locking it.

I completely forgot about this. sad

As much as I love linguistics, this is a fiction site. I wouldn't mind merging with one of its supertropes. It could be merged with Indo-European Alien Language or Conlang, depending on how everyone else feels.

[up]The concept can be mentioned on both pages. The examples...you seem to understand the concept well enough to judge where they'd fit best. That only leaves the question of what do with the page itself? Cut or redirect? I think a redirect to Conlang is probably the most straightforward solution. People may search for the short-hand term.

Well, redirects are free. And we might make one just for Relexification too.

Sounds like a plan. Since nobody has offered even a hint of an objection to any of this, I think you're probably good to go.

Just did it. The Artemis Fowl and Skyrim examples went under Indo-European Alien Language and the Inherintance Cycle example went under Conlang (where there already was a (nattery) entry, so I merged them).
