• Name: Leah Williams
• Age: 11
• Gender: Female
• Magical heritage: Muggleborn
• Hogwarts House: Unsorted
• Year: Going into 1st
• Appearance: Tall, stocky, and very intimidating. Leah has long, unmanageable dark brown hair, that more often than not is drawn up into a ponytail or braid, and dark brown eyes. She has pale skin, which she's somewhat self-conscious about, and broad shoulders, which she isn't.
• Backstory: Leah grew up in a small suburban community, spending most of her time holed up in her room playing video games and reading books. She has a younger brother, Sean, who's four years old. When her magic began appearing, her family was shocked, but kept it to themselves at her request. When the letter came, they were all relieved to find an explanation. Fascinated by all things magical, Leah began searching the Internet for Hogwarts, and found… nothing, which frustrated her greatly. She then decided to just wait until she actually got there to figure out what was going on, and until then just decide which of her favorite books to bring.
• Personality: First and foremost, Leah is a Deadpan Snarker. She looks at the world as objectively as she can, and then points out the ridiculousness of it. She doesn't make friends easily, but those that she has, she would do anything for them. She strives to be the very best in everything she does, but also tries to pick her battles—tries. Occasionally, she'll encounter a problem and stubbornly refuse to let it pass, devoting everything she has to it. While she's proud of her accomplishments, she does her best not to show it, and really not bring them up at all, if she can help it.
• Gifts and abilities: Has the attention to detail that enables her to do well in Transfiguration and Potions.
• Weaknesses: Has a temper, and is easily bored.

Hello. I'm interested in joining. Is there anything I should know about what's happened so far?

EDIT: Never mind, I went over everything. Here are two character profiles. The first is my primary character, while the second is mostly just for information's sake (although I'll probably use her now and then).

• Name: Felix Carmichael
• Age: 13
• Gender: Male
• Magical Heritage: Half-Blood
• Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
• Year: 3rd
• Appearance: Slightly taller than average, thin, bookish. Dirty blonde hair, that is usually messy. Blue-grey eyes, and wears glasses.
• Backstory: The son, and second child, of Charles and Johanna Carmichael (née Prewett). Johanna is Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, serving under Hermione Granger. Charles is an American Muggle-born, and works for the Daily Prophet as a Muggle-news liaison. Due to his mother’s position, he has met the Potter-Weasley clan, although he doesn’t know any of them particularly well. However, he does know Teddy Lupin, who has set his sights on Felix as a rival. Felix hasn’t noticed this.
• Personality: Sharp as a knife, but very quiet, Felix is one to speak sparingly, using only as many words as absolutely necessary, while still remaining polite (sometimes). Can usually be found buried in some book or other.
• Gifts and Abilities: Is good at nearly every subject he takes, although he isn’t fond of a few of them. Is also skilled at identifying the flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans by sight, and as such, has never had a bad one.
• Weaknesses: While he won't actively avoid people, Felix is also not outgoing, often not saying much, even when in a group. This isn’t helped by having to live in the shadow of his older sister, Elisa. He is also rather frightened of spiders, which makes him rather edgy in Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Potions classes. Terrible at flying
• Other Interesting Info:
  • Wand: 12”, Rowan, Dragon heartstring, slightly springy
  • Owns a Tawny Owl named Archimedes
  • Taking Care of Magical Creatures, and Study of Ancient Runes as his electives
  • Has a crush on Victoire Weasley

• Name: Elisa Carmichael

• Gender: Female
• Magical Heritage: Half-Blood
• Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
• Year: 6th
• Appearance: Tall, athletic, beautiful. Wavy, honey-blonde hair, worn long. Sky blue eyes.
• Backstory: See above for family details. From a young age, Elisa fell in love with Quidditch, and watched every match she could of her beloved Holyhead Harpies. On her 11th birthday, she got to meet Ginny Weasley, thanks to her mum, and could talk of nothing else for three days.
• Personality: Elisa has a very warm, and open personality, which makes her very popular, at Hogwarts, although she can also be overly impulsive, and brash.
• Gifts and Abilities: Highly skilled at Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Potions, and modestly skilled at most kinds of casting magic. She is a Chaser for the Gryffindor House Quidditch Team, a Prefect, and is an expert duelist.
• Weaknesses: Is impatient, and can’t stand indirect magic, like Herbology, or Divination (although she does her best in those classes, anyway). Her love of Potions is anomalous, and even she can’t quite explain why she enjoys the subject so much.
• Other Interesting Info:
  • Wand: 14”, Aspen, Dragon heartstring, reasonably supple
  • Owns a Screech Owl named Athena
  • Taking NEWT level courses in all of the Hogwarts core subjects, as well as Divination.
  • A common sight is a gaggle of fourth- and fifth-year boys following her around in the halls.

I would prefer it if you played your Gryffindor character, because we don't have any Gryffindors in the roleplay. But yes, you're accepted.

Felix doesn't look like he'd work as a Gryffindor...

Thanks! :D I'll probably play both of them, but start with Felix, since I've had more experience being a 13 year old boy than I've had being a 17 year old girl. :P

Okay, you can play both of them. But this will be a one-off exception, as everyone else who has or will sign up will play one PC student.

I've got a character in mind for the sign-up, but he will differ from the norm in several ways.

The main issue is that I envision a faculty member, probably an assistant groundskeeper, very recently assigned for the job by the Ministry of Magic, or perhaps approved by the School Board. The castle and the surrounding land are large enough to fit him, I think, and I believe I can justify the decision.

Getting him into the school won't be a problem: he can have been sent to Hogsmeade, and then find his own way to the castle. He'll be interacting with the faculty a lot, and the students likewise, so in most other respects he'll be a similar character to the others. The problem is, of course, that the rest of the information will be largely inapplicable to him: House, Year, et cetera. This shouldn't be a real problem in gameplay, though.

If the GM will approve a character profile with all of those conditions accepted, I'll fill in the template for my guy soonest.

All information below is self-declared and may be unreliable. He's an immigrant, probably qualifying as refugee. He has the ability and probably the motivation to fiddle with his background as needed.

• Name: Arkady Renko
• Age: 33
• Gender: Male
• Magical Heritage: listed as muggleborn.
• House: N/A
• Year: N/A
• Appearance: 175cm and 60kg, short black hair, Eastern European features. Dark-brown eyes, lean build. Often wears olive- or bottle-green robes.
• Talents: expert at fieldcraft and surviving in the outdoors, physically fit. Moderately sociable but capable of being quiet when needed; very practiced in levitation and locomotion skills.
• Weaknesses: relatively unskilled at magic due to limited schooling. Second-language English speaker. Limited "support network" of family in the country, and none that know magic.
• Other information: Carries around a walking stick, slung over his back like a rifle when not in use. Engaged to a nonmagical woman, but is very tight-lipped about the matter.
• Backstory: Ministry records indicate that he formally immigrated in 2008, although he'd spent much of the preceding decade shuttling between his home country and Britain. Due to the destruction of records amidst general chaos in Britain (1997-1998) and the Balkans (1991 to about 2000), this is impossible to verify one way or another. The subject is mostly silent on the matter. Background checks generally do not turn up his name on any lists of known or suspected dark wizards, despite the prevalence of conflict in his area of origin.
• How He Got To Hogwarts: for the next four years, subject brushed up on magic and applied for an open position at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The employment board was satisfied with his outdoors skills and his willingness to work in remote geographical areas, but noted that he needed significantly more experience working with magical creatures. As wizards willing to handle dangerous beasts were in high demand, the board granted permission and a recommendation for the subject to apply as an assistant groundskeeper at Hogwarts for training, an application that was accepted in 2013.

Ok. Can I have a quidditch player? I have a character I've been itching to try out, and it would involve being a Beater (in Ravenclaw, preferably). I haven't done an HP roleplay since my neopets days in middle school, so I don't want to come off as power playing >_>

Eh. I'll fill it out and see what comes of it.

• Name: Cordelia "Cardy" Mc Farland
• Age: 15
• Gender: Female
• Magical heritage (pure blood, half blood, etc...): Half blood, but born from two magical parents.
• Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
• Year: 5
• Appearance: 5' 4", heavy set, covered in freckles, and being a red head, tends to burn easily in the sun, and is thus frequently keeping her hood up on her robes, or other such matters to avoid the sun. Picture.
• Backstory: Nothing much to speak of. She had two loving parents, a witch and a wizard, and a few younger siblings who are a first year and not in Hogwarts yet, respectively.
• Personality: Easily flustered, brash, and not the best with social skills, and occasionally paranoid. Other than that, bookish, joyish and easily amused, when not being flustered.
• Gifts and abilities: A very strong batting arm, a fairly good technical drawer, good with Charms and Potions.
• Weaknesses: Tends to forsake homework for own goals and desires. Herbology frequently gives her bandaids even if it's something simple as weeding. Overly aggressive occasionally.
• Other interesting info: Beater for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. Wants to be a broom designer when she grows up, and frequently is seen doodling her own designs. Wand is a rigid Blackthorn with Dragon heartstrings for a core, and is about 9 3/4 inches long. A pet Burrowing Owl named Demon.

Given we already have a Quidditch player (Alister Clark, Hufflepuff, Chaser), I'm sure Quidditch will be fine.

Um, how can she be a half-blood if she's got two Wizard parents?

Half-blood refers to her blood line. Harry Potter was referred to as a half blood, for example, despite having two wizarding parents. One of her grandparents were a muggle born, probably.

To quote wikipedia:

"Pure-blood is the term applied to wizards and witches who have no Muggle blood, Muggle borns, or half-bloods at all in their genealogical pedigree. Although technically pure-bloods have no Muggle ancestors, the small wizarding population means that "true" pure-bloods are rare or even non-existent, with most just ignoring or disowning the few Muggles in their family."

I had assumed Half-blood was the default, so anyone who technically was identifying as pure-blood either came from an old family, or were it more to circumstance ala the Weasleys.

There IS a reason why I specified my status with "but with two magical parents", not everyone is aware of the full definition of "half blood."

You're not the only one, AHR. I suspect both Arkady and Cordelia will be stuck in limbo for a while.

(As for why a Balkan-ancestry guy would have a Russian name...there's a reason.)
