Combat Medic relative to The Medic:
As a related (sub?) trope, is Combat Medic "The Medic who can also fight people" the or the narrower "The Medic who can use healing and buffing abilities mid-combat" or an even narrower "The Medic who can use healing and buffing abilities mid-combat and is meant to be game exclusive?"
My understanding is just being a medic who can kick butt. The Medic usually suffers from being a Squishy Wizard; this is one who will fight tooth and claw, as well as heal. So I think all those descriptions would work.
As mentioned above, the Combat Medic is The Medic who can heal your party but also stand on the front lines and take a hit. For instance, D&D's paladin is a warrior who can Lay On Hands to mitigate damage. Guild Wars' monk class can also count, depending on the build, as they are the designated healing class, but can also fight with Smiting skills. Or, perhaps more appropriately, the title character from MARDEK, who uses swords but is also your White Mage. As a contrast, see Stick Chick (or whatever that trope is called these days), who is usually the designated healer in a JRPG.
Tali'Shepard Vas Normandy-RannochIn a text-based Role Play, I had a character whose Core Ability was basically a Life Drain/Mana Drain. The best part, she was a Weapons Master who specialized in Dual Wielding, and each weapon could have either ability at any time. In other words, she could Life Drain with one weapon and Mana Drain with the other (or have both weapons do one ability). Any HP she stole could be disseminated to one or more allies and any MP she stole was used to power up her Core Ability for another use. So basically, she was a medic, but it was in her best interest to hit things as much as possible.
