I like the idea. Here's one alternative Doom shot, as well as a Wolfenstein 3-D shot for an alternate game entirely.
Moon◊
No, that's a different trope. Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels.
Rhymes with "Protracted."*headdesk*
Why does the trope have a name that implies any sort of mocking the easy mode, when it's actually more specific?
Well that's for TRS anyway. The current image still doesn't show that it's a difficulty level.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I would contend that the Doom and Wolfenstein difficulty level names happen to be examples of both, but it's still probably best to find less ambiguous examples for the page images.
The caption states they're two different difficulty levels, and the image shows how the game makes fun of you for picking easy mode.
Unless you can show that they're difficulty levels without a caption somehow (I can't think of even one game where we wouldn't need a caption or essentially the same thing to show it), this image works fine.
Yes, they can be both. If the idiosyncratic difficulty levels have mocking names for the lower-difficulty ones, then they're also an example of Easy-Mode Mockery.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I see no need to change the picture. It shows an in-game comparison between the two difficulty modes in-game. The Doom and Wolfenstien examples do count, but they're weaker examples, since the trope is mainly about the game changing. Mocking you when you begin is a bit weaker than graphics changing within the game.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. It doesn't stat that those are two modes. The context could make them in the same scene.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Keep Until Better Image Suggestion.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Last I saw it, Easy-Mode Mockery was supposed to be about the actual gameplay mocking you for choosing a lower difficulty setting. In which case neither Wolfenstein and Doom are examples because there is no actual "mocking" going on inside the actual gametime.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I'm preferring IWBTG to either of the above suggestions, and the current is pretty clearly in Keep Until Better Image Suggested territory, so I'm not wanting to do anything at this time.
Keep Until Better Image Suggested for me per arguments against the DOOM and Wolfenstein pics.
That's part of the point, and the appeal of the picture. It's the same scene, just with different difficulty modes. A clear comparison showing the difference.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. How is leaving out context part of the point? That's the opposite of what makes a good picture.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Don't think "leaving out context" was what he meant is part of the point, it's that it is the same scene. In two different difficulty levels. You mean same scene literally, like not different difficulty levels, the save point and bow just appeared, right? That is fair. Could be better.
The DOOM screen is Not An Example though. It's not mocking before you select the difficulty, it's after. Like the game is different beyond different enemies.
vv I mean the definition, sorry. Something could be both this and Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels, but I think the DOOM and Wolfenstein menu screens are only that.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.1. It's the same scene, but it lacks the info that the scene has different difficulty levels, or any reason that icon popped up. That's why it doesn't really show the trope.
2. I'm going to have to check and make sure the wicks and examples fit that, as I'm thinking others likely might think the trope means something else.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Note that even if the gameplay is essentially the same, EMM requires that the game do more than just adjust enemy strength/layout depending on what you chose. It has to remind you that You Suck Because Easy Is For Wimps.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Well the description doesn't seem to require that. But if it does, some of the wicks I'm checking are misuse.
EDIT: And Doom's difficulty names are included in the page examples.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Ok.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Is there a screencap of the difficulty selections? Because then we could just slap the images for the modes on the picture, and that would add the context easily.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. It's not so much that I don't think the Doom images aren't examples. I simply think IWBTG is better.
Dunno, it is kind of cooler-looking: Sandbox.Easy Mode Mockery.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. There does seem to be overlap with Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels, though, which is an image of virtually the same thing (I mean, sure, it's Rise Of The Triad instead, but the same basic concept).
I'm kind of concerned there's some ambiguous overlap here. I know this is more of a TRS thing, but...

Moon◊I don't think this would be its first trip to TRS, but I'm a bit lacking on the proof of that.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.
The caption has to tell us this is about difficulty, and not just some message that pops up.
This picture◊ from Doom outright calls the first two levels to be for wimps, while the other three are outright called to be for the hardcore.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
