[up] I'm more bothered by that absolutely horrid armour design than anything (though then again, every design so far has been painful to look at so what did you expect).

Atleast Mannimarco himself looks like he can be taken more seriously than his Oblivion incarnation, which is admitteadly not much of an accomplishment.

He looks like he borrowed his armor from Shiny Zeus.

Why is Mannimarco in the game anyway? By this point in history he's in his mid-200 years old. Which makes him like 40 in Human terms. Has his conflict with Galerion even occurred by this point?

They're probably hoping to sell this game by rehashing every character and event from the earlier titles with whatever new twists and calling it 'fanservice'.

How are they going to rehash characters from hundreds of years in the future? Unless they make gratuitous use of expies and identical "ancestors".

Speaking of which, did anyone else notice that the Giant and Steam Centurion in one of the previews were absolutely identical to their Skyrim models? If they're not making new things that are also terrible they're recycling and ripping off the other games.

[up] Ohhhh fuck that.

This game has terrible art design, and this picture sums it all up. It's hard to articulate in words why this bugs me, but I'll do my best.

1. The elf is as bland and boring a fantasy elf as I've ever seen. Can you tell me what variety of mer she is? Too tall to be a Bosmer, lacks the Altmer specific skull shape, skin too light for Dunmer. She's just an "elf". That's all you get.

2. A big ol' plunging neckline, because who cares about protecting your heart, she's only there because tits.

3. The Warhammer/Warcraft rule of pauldrons. Big pauldrons on top of other pauldrons on top of other pauldrons. Your shoulders aren't that important damn it.

4. The Nord looks like a stock fantasy dwarf. If I'd never played an ES game before, I would assume he was a dwarf.

5. That rogue guy is so goddamn generic I don't know if he's supposed to be a thief or an assassin.

6. And again, he's got the ridiculously overwrought armor design, straight out of Warhammer/Warcraft.

Overall, they could be from any dime a dozen fantasy game. And why does the armor have to be so over-designed and intricate? All it's going to do is make the WoW comparisons easier. Really looks bad compared with Skyrim's more gritty and streamlined look. Do they really think that this:

-looks better than this?

[up]Amen.

It's really sad when the pointy shoulderpads of Morrowind look sensible in comparison.

And let's not even get into how seemingly any architecture we've seen that isn't Hammerfell is either overdone to the point of visual detachment, boring and generic or a mixture of both.

From the "Ask us questions." Aldmeri Dominion this time.

The buildings of Alinor are said to look like they are "made from glass or insect wings." If the Summurset Isles are traversable at release will we see a design reminiscent of this? And will we see the Crystal Tower for that matter?!

When The Elder Scrolls Online launches, the playable part of the Summerset Isles will be Auridon, the big island between Summerset and the continent that includes the cities of Firsthold and Skywatch. The architecture of the High Elves is fanciful, certainly, but it’s also practical, constructed of real-world materials. Architects can’t make buildings out of poetry!

I hope they mean that the architecture we see at the playable areas is practical... 'cause otherwise, really?

[up] What they mean is "Our art design team can't think of making it look like it should"

Anyone wanna bet all Khajiit are going to look exactly the same? Rather than the dozen or so sub-species?

Among the Khajiit, the race of feline humanoids who originate from Elsweyr, the Suthay-raht are indeed the most common breed, and at launch, all player-character and non-player-character Khajiit in ESO will be Suthay-raht.

Oh well.

Wouldn't that just mean that their buildings look like glass armor in style? tongue With nice elegant design of insect wings? Lazy lazy people...

Really, I hope online is cancelled or non canoned.

Im waiting for TESVI who may have a bunch of books making fun of TEO. "And the period of great instability of the second era, were oddly named Emperors ascended on the throne through sheer body count. Emperor Dovahkiin581 Slew Legolas_Is_Teh_Gay1356 who himself defeated LeeroyJenkinsPVP..."

[up]x3 It says that it's only for launch, and we'll possibly see the other sub-breeds of Khajiit in the future.

Interestingly enough they said Skuldafn is making an appearance in TESO. Also, House Telvanni didn't join the Ebonheart Pact.

The Ebonheart pact makes the least sense of the three factions. It's made out of three factions who have traditionally always been at war. Why would the Nords side with the Dunmer and not the Bretons??? But hey, turns out in the second era, Nord, Dunmers and Argonians were BF Fs!

Then again, Daggerfall Covenant will include the orcs, despite the fact that at the time, people barely considered the Orcs as people and the Bretons and the Orcs were constantly at one another's throat.

[up][up]I doubt this will get future content. This will tank. Badly. The reaction from TES fans is Lukewarm at best, and even the MMO crowd is looking less than enthousiast. Unless the game is WAY more awesome than the material so far is indicated, I expect this to not live long.

How do you intend to portray the cannibalism of the Bosmer? [...]? - By James Craven

For the Wood Elves, cannibalism is a matter of ritual significance, and typically quite private within a family or tight-knit group.

Translation: It will not be portrayed in-game. Maybe alluded to, slightly.

At worked we laughed at the idea that whoever kills the most in PVP becomes Emperor. "Because that's how Emperors are chosen of course. Napoleon himself became Emperor after solo-ing an entire battalion."

The cries against armor design are kind of silly. In an mmo you need to design armor for more than just style. You need to be able to instantly identify whether they're wearing robes, light armor, medium, heavy, etc. You also need to be able to identify if their armor is "top-tier" or not. In mmo's this is generally done by having the best armor be all glowly and over-designed. Sometimes you get really awesome armor sets other times not so much. But that guard helmet is stupid.

I don't see why you can't make a city with insect wing looking stuff and glass. world of warcraft has a floating city, an entire crystal forest and a underwater zone. Plus a bug city, now that I think of it.

I'm hoping this game turns out well but I really don't see it having a market. The average TES player is not so dedicated that an mmo is right for them and mmo players are already committed to a different mmo.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Wonder if this will have a cash shop. That'd be hilarious to see the EMPEROR OF TAMRIEL be some kid with his parent's credit card.

@thatguythere 47 Except the problem is that you can already do that in Elder Scrolls games. Nobody is going to mistake Ebony armour as being inferior than steel or that chitin armour is heavier than bonemold. Not only that but the style they chose wants to have it both ways; It tries to still retain some of original game's sensibilities (to the point of outright copy-pasting), but still keep this overall World Of Warcraft/Diablo 3/Amalur-esque artstyle we've seen many times before, which just creates a messy looking designs, too busy looking yet stock to be visually interesting. Let's not forget that overdesign in of itself is not a good thing, atleast in ESO's case.

And seeing how disappointingly uncreative yet overdesigned in a bad way all the architecture we've seen has been, I doubt we are ever going to get the crystal insectoid cities.
