The trope is being misused on its own page, so that rather than the examples being strictly about "cool airships", they currently extend to "cool any-kind-of-airborne-vessel" (e.g. Mahou Sensei Negima character Haruna's ship, and the Marvel Universe's SHIELD helicarrier). I have yet to do a thorough wick check to see how much of this misuse has extended outside the article, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's commonly occurring, given that VideoGame.Final Fantasy VIII uses it to describe the Ragnarok, which is technically a Cool Starship that is just as good in atmospheric flight as it is in space flight.

Possible solutions:

I think that colloquially, any vessel that flies can qualify as an "airship". Indeed, the way the trope is used seems to confirm that.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

True, but that runs into the following issues: 1) "airship" is a pre-existing term for a specific kind of aircraft, and 2) AFAIK, fictional works normally use "airship" in the sense used IRL.

I thought this thread would be about how Cool And X is not a trope, a problem that extends to all the Cool X pages...

What gave that impression? And by that logic, a lot of the tropes under Travel Cool would be affected.

When I saw "misused, I imagined something like "This is just being used for an airship that is cool, when the actual definition is more nuanced." Actually, that is the entire definition.

Yes, many of the pages on Travel Cool must go. That index contains legitimate pages like Afterlife Express and Flying Car but also nonsense like Cool Ship, Cool Plane and Cool Boat.
