Is Disney still gonna make new hand-drawn animated movies?

I think my godmother got me a VHS of it for my birthday one year, but I can only ever remember watching it once and not even paying attention to it.

[up]x13 Did the ''Tintin' movie cause any kind of resurgence in mo-cap films, though? From what I hear, it flopped pretty badly in America, and in Europe I dare say it was successful because it was a Tintin movie, not because it was a mo-cap movie.

Garnering $373,993,951 from the box office is, by no means, a flop. Even considering the 135$ price tag of the budget.

It doesn't matter if it was a Tintin movie. What matters in the business is that it was a mo-cap that was successful.

No, Zemeskis was different. He didn't know the last movie he made was poor. Here, the filmmakers were aware that they were making a good movie!

Oh, no, I mean that'd his MoCap studio closed. He really seemed to be into it while it was open.

And I was actually kinda looking forward to his Yellow Submarine remake if only out of curiosity.

The Bancroft brothers talked with John Musker and had lunch with Don Hall today and they cleared up some rumors on their Facebook page.

Ron n' Jon DO have another film in development there, but they are still trying to get Disney to approve it. It's too early to know what medium it will be animated in, but CG is most likely it. I'm just psyched that John apparently heard about the rumors! But they did say that Lassetter appears to have lost his religion a while after getting promoted to chairman.

[up][up] I heard they were gonna make a movie of Eoin Colfer's Airman as well. Would've like to see that.

[up]He wanted to keep doing 2D, but he seems to have abandoned that.

Lassetter was the one who wanted 2D animation back once he headed Disney. The Princess And The Frog and Winnie The Pooh were both his ideas. But with the "mild" performance of Princess, and with Pooh being barely an hour long and not amounting to much, it makes me wonder.

I wonder if Lasseter's ever considered having Pixar make a 2D film?

Pixar was founded on the purpose of pushing the technology of CGI. But yeah, they made two 2d/CG shorts in the past, so I suppose it's possible.

I don't know if this has been posted here before, but if not, then what do you think of this?

I think a best-case scenario at this point would be that Disney continues to make hand-drawn shorts.

[up]Ha. That would be sad.

Let's try this again, since the cartel thread got derailed into this topic.

Ahem...

Is any higher-up at Disney seeing how fast the Hullabaloo fund-raiser reached its goal, and how fast the level continues to rise?? Doesn't THAT convince them that people want 2D animation?!

One day, I will make an animated short about animation corporations run by actual toddlers. The lines won't even change.

[up] I doubt that Disney will look at that.

Why did Mainstream Animated films stop using 2D Animation? While Mainstream TV Shows use 2D Animation? (Albeit in Flash or another computer program)

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!

A to first part: Because Pixar had to completely change the game with a new technology and good writing, which made other studios think they could also gain money, only with POOR writing, and now everyone is in the mindset that CGI is where the money is at, when really it's their own fault for only doing the same things because of competition with each other!

A to the second part: cable TV budgets are miniscule compared to Hollywood movies, and 2D/ Adobe Flash /Toon Boom animation fits that budget.

I agree that Disney probably won't pay much attention to what is happening to the Hullabaloo movie, unless that movie managed to reach over a million dollars worth of support (even reaching about $500,000 would convince any company that there is still interest in 2D animation).

I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
