That would be too predictably unpredictable
Like I said, I'd rather have Retro work on original/new IP.
Nah. Retro's forte is taking what are essentially discarded series and revitalizing them, and reminding people how good they actually are. While I'm sure an original IP from them would still be a great game, it would be missing that X factor. That "Holy crap, I forgot how much I liked these games" feeling that Retro is so good at. They take something old that everyone knows, turns it on its ear, and still makes it feel like it used to.

Hence the name Retro Studios.
I know, but still.
Besides, I don't like idea of Western developers doing Japanese series because Western developers have different values and cultural differences that will show up in the game(talking about Retro doing Zelda) Same vice versa. Though I guess it could be interesting to see that happen more often... Anyway, Zelda isn't dead franchise so far
Well, technically they were called that when they were working on new IPs. However, none of them (as far as I'm aware) were ever finished, and one of them is what got turned into Metroid Prime.
That's actually kind of xenophobic. There's really no difference at all between the DKC trilogy, and Returns. It's true that Zelda isn't a dead franchise, but it is an old standby, and if Nintendo wants to let Retro refresh it a bit, then all the more power to them.
To me, Retro's biggest strength is that they understand Nintendo's franchises, and what makes them work.

However, Retro is known for having some of the best artists in the industry. Letting them loose a bit could create something wonderful.
Plus, Zelda doesn't really have any Eastern customs in it. It's a fairly western style game, knights and dragons and Princesses and all that. Zelda seems like a really good fit for Retro, Skyward Sword showed that they were interested in taking it in new directions and Retro can do that while staying true to Zelda.
Also miyamoto has said that he'd love to make a Zelda with Retro, and they're working no a game "Everyone wants us to do".

Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally! However, if Retro is indeed working on a Wii U game, there's no way it's Zelda, since development on that will have started pretty recently. Different story if they're doing a 3DS game.
They could still do it, just not show it off at E3. Although I really hope it's a 3DS game. I need some 3DS love.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!Except for the fact that that would mean they've done nothing except a quick step-in to help finish Mario Kart 7 is nearly two years.
If they've been working on anything console-related, there's no way that it's been Zelda.
Actually the quick step in was about 70 different tracks for the game, which would take quite a bit of time and effort. And to nail the feel of a Zelda game might just take more then 3 years, or it could've been a wii game that was ported over mid development ala Super paper Mario.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!Yes, 4 times 4 plus 1 is 70.
I think he means tracks that were left on the cutting room floor.
How does that make sense? That would imply that there were also 70 original tracks in the game. And if that many courses were cut from the game, I have no idea why they thought they could get it out when they did. Retro's involvement in Mario Kart 7 was initially contributing assets for the DKCR track, but came on board to (funnily enough) do the retro courses, when EAD was running out of time. Even assuming they did the retro battle courses, that's 19 tracks, which is nowhere near 70.
They also designed a few original tracks, such as the Blade Runner/Tron-inspired Neo Bowser City.

Raise your hand if you're actually going to E3?
- raise*
I just heard it in a review, I'm probably wrong. :/
Ah. Most of my knowledge on it just comes from interviews around release, so I thought I might be misremembering.
@Bad wolf: Umm, no its not xenophobic. Or are you saying that cultural differences don't affect games developed in different cultures at all?... You are saying that western and eastern developers don't have different design philosophies?
And while Zelda doesn't have Japanese features, it IS pretty obviously Japanese game :P Or do I have to point them out?

Sorry it was 16 tracks. I have no idea where I got 70 from.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!I think I heard that Retro designed all of the Retro tracks, and some of the new tracks, like DK Jungle and Neo Bowser City. I think I read it in an Iwata Asks interview or some other place... And of course, they contributed Staff Ghosts as well.
I can't go to E3 because I don't have enough money.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Also, E3 is closed to anyone who isn't involved with the industry in some capacity, last time I checked. That's why PAX exists.

Retro said that they're not immediately working on a sequel, actually. I'm certain that their next game is Zelda, though.
