Mass Fanfiction Rec Removal

So but I do not know where to post this. Why were ALL the Fanfiction recommendations removed from the site?

The council that's recently been formed to deal with porn wants to go over the recs with a fine tooth comb and weed out the most explicit stuff before bringing back the page. See the New Content Policy thread on Wiki Talk.

So it _is_ coming back? It just seems odd that it's quite sudden there's absolutely no previous discussion on this that I can see anywhere... Did I just miss something somewhere?

But there is no reason to remove everything if they just want to check the content. When it is "kill it off, no notification", it comes off as a wanking by Fast Eddie, honestly, and I'm pretty sure it was a large factor of it. Add to that that according to the threads on the subject, there is not a formed committee yet, so I guess FE can be putting the blame on ghosts.

@Keola: it is Fast Eddie's modus operandi. Kill things off unilaterally and then make people beg.

Well, hopefully this mess will be cleared up soon. I'm a bit worried though: why did they take ALL the fanfic recs off? I'm sure there would have been people willing to volunteer their services to clean up the pages.

I was cleaning up pages as I found them already, but apparently Eddie is unwilling to allow nature to take its course.

(No really, he pretty much said exactly that over in wiki talk.)

...I really hate that dude sometimes. I admit, he busts his balls for this wiki, but really? Taking down full wikipages, closing Fan Recs (for the time being)... wow.

At this point I have to ask: How do other less SFW websites stay afloat?

Probably part of it is that most less SFW sites just don't have the load that TV Tropes has. This is a highly popular site, after all.

It was mentioned in another thread, but I'm sure this fanfic rec removal is only temporary. It's just until the moderation cleans up a bit.

Ooorrrr it might be gone forever. Unnecessary I'd say, but cutting Fanfic Recs isn't a big loss.

It does limit part of TV Tropes as a Gateway Drug.

Then again, if they want some recommendations, they can just look for the thread here.

I just hope that the good fanfics that we found don't get Lost Forever. I had no idea that Fan Fic Recs were such a huge problem!

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency

If I read right it's not that the Fan Fics themselves were problems, but that they could have questionable content TV Tropes does not wish to associate itself with.
