Can we get permission to use the SMBC comics? If yes, we have options. If not, well...we don't.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.

Isn't there a simple comic in which the villian takes out a list, and says "Yes, now that I've taken over the power plant, I can commence with the next part of my plan, which is eggs, milk, bread! ......wait, no. That's my grocery list", puts it away and then pulls out another list: "Here's my real master plan!" Pretty sure it's a rather popular trope.

Gentleman Troper!
[up] That works.
Special trousers. Very heroic.

Looks good, provided we can trim it down another panel or get permission.

Maybe chop off the third panel of the comic four posts above and have the caption be that panel's text?

I don't like the idea of turning it into a stick figure comic. That sort of has the feeling of us stealing the material and hiding it by saying "no, look. totally different artwork!"
I have a message from another time...

[up] Yeah.

We could use panels 3 and 4 (with both bubbles from 4; I like the brocolli bit!), and change the "Looks like" to "Fighting" — fair use, same meaning, better artwork...

Something like this; text in all bubbles but the last one has been swapped for DigitalStrip.

If you don't have the exact same typeface, better to replace the whole line (or even the whole bubble). Looks pretty good though.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel.
Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
[up][up]That's good.

I also agree that it feels like plagiarism to use the same setup but with stick figures. Original Character Dont Steal!

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

[up][up] Point. I've now done it for all the text by that same speaker, since it was tricky getting the writing to fit in that last bubble, and different writing can be used to indicate different people so it doesn't matter that it is a bit different. DigitalStrip matches better than it might — it shares several features with the original writing.

I like 33.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel.
Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

Clock's up...the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I am with the tweaking that's been done to that comic. Because of that, I think I'm just going to lock this and see if Wiki Magic comes up with something else later on.
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
