I think the first two panels would be better than just the middle one, since the first one establishes what the normal spoon in liquid looks like.

I suppose for the length, but you see the motion drawn as well as motion can be drawn in comics.

Just the second panel wouldn't be a bad idea, although I do agree that the first panel can establish the trope in action. Either one's good really...
